Power Transistor Unit

Buying a DSM the other day I found a power transistor unit with wires cut inside the car. The power transistor says
Mitsubishi
POWER TR UNIT
J122
8507

Where does this go? What does it do?

It's a 1991 Eclipse GSX

Does the car run??? The PTU is what controls the coils to fire is why I ask. It mounts towards the firewall side of the motor on the engine, right where the intake bolts on by the timing gears on a flat plate to dissipate heat.

Nice thank you. It's my first time having a 1g. The car has no motor in it but I do plan on dropping one in. I wanted to know why this was cut off But i guess you just answered my questions. Where in the wiring harness would this plug in.

Close to where the coil packs plug in at. I can't imagine why a lot of things are done by previous owners but I would never cut one out and don't see why anyone with any car knowledge would either. You may have to solder all of the wires back into the harness if they were cut from that harness. Maybe you will be lucky and that PTU is one from a junkyard that someone didn't care about the next person and just hacked it out....I hate those type of people....
