2G Possible mistake with a Megan Racing Downpipe

Fwd exhaust will only work 4 fwd. Awd parts work on fwd or awd. In my experience. Plus if u can't find downpipe in fwd this post may be handy for you. You have a 2g of housing, so you could part the shit out if it. Or you could buy an aftermarket or, I personally have an old school tubular o2 housing. So thats an option as well. Trying to give you Info on common things we do on exhaust thats almost free if u port, balling on a budget is what we say when we do that kinda work . Its fine, you can do that pretty well and get good results.

Anyway I hope u dont run into the Megan exhaust issues I ran into🤣

Ummm so when I got my Megan DP and cat back. The flanges were off like 180 degrees, so had to get 2, 3 inch flanges and sum 3 inch piping because a test pipe i had wouldnt fit.
I had to make this custom test pipe because the flange holes were off centered and fairy strange way to make a full exhaust system.

If you have a 2g o

The turbo swap shouldn't effect whether or not the downpipe will fit at all. You need the 2g awd downpipe that matches your vehicle. The o2 housing and flange placement will be virtually identical with the 14b turbo as long as the o2 housing is factory style.

my megan test pipe doesnt fit my exhaust either so i bought an adapter. Thats a whole nother can of worms

The real issue are the bolts i have to use. The nut included with the downpipe arent the right pitch so we had to buy more. One nut can go snug with no issues, but the other rubs against the pipe. Sorry i didnt clarify that earlier

Aside from the fitment suggestions already given, there is also a difference in the Evo III o2 housing. They look very similar to the 1g/2g style, but the downpipe flange on the Evo III o2 housing is at a different angle.

The evo 3 or is crooked at a weird angle. So DP has to be cooked as well

I see what the issue is. I've had the same issue with my car. The nut on one side ends up hitting the side of the downpipe/flange weld. Honestly, the best fix is an aftermarket o2 housing or clearancing the downpipe to get the nut tight. I bought a set of crows feet to tighten the nuts as much as I can, but still have a slight leak. I plan on getting a different o2 housing to not have to deal with this anymore.

This is what i was lookin for. Is your leak because you grinded a bit of the downpipe off so the nut would fit, or did you even create the clearance in the first place? Which o2 housing are you planning on buying?

The only reason I have a slight leak is that I'm unable to tighten the nuts enough to get the downpipe gasket to properly seal. I've just been looking at the STM o2 housing as it seems to be the only higher quality one out there anymore.

I dont have a Megan downpipe. But I had the same issue with my 3" downpipe to my jmf O2 housing. I solved my issue with taking a hammer and lightly tapping it until it would clear the nut.

You could try trimming a washer to act as a spacer where the weld joint is on the flange. Then, as suggested, clearance the pipe enough to fit the nut. Don't forget to clearance enough for the socket.

I thought megan used to do a reducer on their 3" pipes? So the outlet was 2.75 then straight away to 3" and it was for reasons like this problem. I think some that do have this they slotted the o2 housing

Yep. Thats how my pipe works and i believe thats part of the problem. I'll trim it today or sometime next week and update this thread when I do
