Plastidipped my car.

I'm wondering if this could be used as an under coating to inhibit rust on the subframe.

It could, but honestly I would just use the Rustoleum or Duplicolor undercoating from Pep Boys. I used it in my hatch area since it was a bit rusty (fvcking phantom leak)....it is much thicker than the Plastidip.

I'm actually going to be trying out Duplicolor Kevlar Bed Armor, for the engine bay, under-body, and internal (under the carpet, behind panels, etc.). We just got it in at my work, figured it should do a good job and hold up against a Wisconsin winter.

I'll be doing my hood tonight, it is already primered. If I like how it turns outs, I'll be doing the roof and rear fin/spoiler.

did my drip rails and mirrors in black, they were pretty sun baked. the black looks pretty good. I have decided to wait till I order the batch of silver to do the rest of the car.

It does say (on the non spary cans of 'dip) that you can use a toluene based thinner. I assume then you could thin it out enough to spray through a gun?

Im wondering how well this would work on interior panels... :hmm:

Same here... I have a beige dash in my DD civic and wanted to do the upper dash black, i'll do it as soon as I can get a day off. I'll post up pics.

OP, do you know how well this would hold up to dash vinyl?

This will adhere to any surface. But if it's on something you are constantly touching / rubbing against then you may want to be careful.

I dono about the dash... but i plastidipped the outside of a beer mug a little while ago, yes beer was involved in the decision making process.... but its been through the dishwasher a few times now and it seems to be holding up just fine.

I would go for it.. seems to hold up to quite a bit of abuse IF you put it on thick enough.

Yeah, just as I thought. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! :thumb:

I did my hood, roof and rear fin.

I really like the results. I'm going to redo the hood though. Take it down to the metal and use some primer and apply the plasti dip again.

I found them at HomeDepot for $5.98 a spray can.

One thing though, it has been a few days now and it still feels tacky. I tried to wipe away some sanding dust and it left some marks or streaks in the paint.

I had the garage at 70* while painting, then turned it off after, so it's been in there a day or two and probably been 60* or 50*.

Edit: I'll post up some pictures of it in a bit.

It shouldn't feel tacky, BUT it will feel "sticky" in a way since it is a rubberized coating. Dirty and dust will stick to it like crazy for a while...just wash the part off with soap and water and you'll be good.

I just plastidipped a parts washer (the outside of course) and im very suprised at how it looks after 2 days of mild hot degreaser splashing and running all over it. veedyy niceee

Dont know about a whole car being painted with it, but I like the idear of certain spots/sections of a vehicle being plastidipped.. pretty cool

I just noticed that lip, and I hosted one of the first images. LOL

I want...

In my Opinion, sanding does not seems to be needed. I as i said earlier i painted a (glass) beer mug of mine a while back. I didn't sand it or prep it in any way other than drying it off. Its been through the washer probably a dozen times with no ill effects.

I would say leave the underlying paint the way it is. Likely you wont leave the car plastidipped forever. I tried some two tone work on my car and was able to peal it back off a few days latter with a plastic putty knife. no damage to the paint below and It Did Not Come Off Easy.

still it did come off, so i would call it reversible...

Just redid my drip rails with this a couple days ago. Good stuff.

And what do you guys thing about certain parts painted with this? I kinda want to do my hood, roof, and maybe the wing/hatch. I know I can just peel it off if I don't like it but don't wanna go through the effort if it'll look weird.
