One Step Closer to 420A RWD

Soooo.....yeah! A guy came by locally and wiped me clean, minus a few parts set back for a few members. In one week it goes to the shop to get completely stripped.

The engine should be mounted in 2 weeks, then I'm stuck waiting on the r200 rear diff. I still have to get ahold of Magnus for the rear sub-frame and front hubs.

Gutted pics up by the end of next week!

What trans are you running with this? Please be some sort of manual.

w58 for now. R154 if everything goes ok. Both are Toyota Supra 5 speed manuals.

how available are those trannys? I want to do this also to another DSM and use the T-56 tranny. Just need to get a custom bell housing.

The R154 is becoming more and more scarce with a price tag around 1k. If you are using a 4g63 there are plenty of options for transmissions as far as custom bell housings. For the 420a there are limitations, because no one has made a trans plate yet, and the Jeep liberty bell housing will only work with so many transmissions.

I'll have pics up once the car is stripped, stitched, and the tunnel is cut.

Just out of curiosity why did you go with the Jeep bellhousing? Also with the 5 min of googling and using the wiki is the caravan bellhousing for the AWD the same as the Jeeps or is it different. Im sure your the expert in this so I'm just wondering no disrespect at all. Was there a problem with using the EDZ chysler 2.4L (swapped into many 420A's) and moding the Caravan AWD to RWD?

nice, but i have a few questions for you
1 are you using a gsx eclipse gas tank to make way for the driveshaft
2 are you still using the factory intake manifold
3 was it hard to get around the cross member where the steering rack is

the awd caravan trans is a moddified front wheel drive transmission, they place a "transfer case" on the fwd transmission that has a differential in it that sends power to the rear wheels usally via a viscous coupler that is engaged when the abs sees that the tires are slipping

Ohh ok so then am I safe to assume then that you cant mod the transmission to just drive the rear? I am unfamilar with the way most AWD trans work so sorry I've just read some stuff on PT cruiser guys trying to use this trans to go AWD and thought why couldn't we use that to go RWD. Like I said I'm no expert and I'm sure that he did it this way for a reason. Can't wait to see pics.

Sorry been gone for a long while. Had my baby boy and some financial set-backs...again. Going to be starting the project back up in the coming weeks and this WILL be ready by NEXT shootout.
