Has anyone ever cut up one of the Walmart super-tech filters? I had a few people tell me they were made by a high end company and was wondering if this had any truth in it? I would imagine it would be worth looking into since they are around 1/4 of the price of napa filters.

oh, i see... just separating the can from the top. i suppose a tin shear would do the trick. ill see if i have a super-tech filter still laying around ill get some pics and post up and see what you guys think

fellow green shirt here, RSS for store 2179 in columbus.

e85_4g63 if you can get away with running a bumper exit exhaust so you dont have to worry about down pipe clearance, which is what ill be doing, ive found a rather large filter with the m20x1.5 thread and it also has a slightly higher bypass valve pressure to help keep oil on the bearings for startup.

Wix part number is 51182. 5.207" tall, 3.66" diameter, bypass 24 psi, 54.8cu.in. volume.
Mine came in yesterday from the ware house and it is twice the size of the wix 51381 (stock 1g filter) and much larger than the 51334 i was running on the old car for exhaust clearance.

Gotta love digging through the catalogs to find all the cool shit.

When buying a car, if I look under the hood and see a Fram filter on it, I do an immediate 180.

It should be noted that the video cutaway of the Microguard filter is outdated. That's from when they were made by Purolator. They have been made by Fram for a couple of years now and now have the cardboard end caps, etc.

I quit running frams years ago based on some one doing this same thing, i use WIX as well now days

Bogus, tell me where to send it and ill send you a brand new fram ultragard filter to cut open. I've been using them for a while and I still have two sitting. If they suck, I don't want to use them.
