Oem vs felpro vs ajusa composite head gasket.

Just go to advance and buy the $32 felpro composite. I run that with standard arp's and an o-ringed head. Been running in between 24 and 28psi on my s256 with no problems at all.

i was running a felpro hg for 2 years with my car making 400+hp and it finally went when i ran 35psi on e85 est hp 600+hp. i was making 530hp and 440lbs of torque at 30psi on 93oct. i blew the fire ring out the side of the motor but the block and head are fine, this is a rebuilt stock block 6bolt.

which supporting vendor sales the felpro HG? I can only find ones that sell the cometic, felt, metal, hks.

I only found one fel-pro gasket sold by modern automotive performance, but that thing is sold for $209.95 by itself, not studs or anything included. its called the Fel-Pro Perma-TorqueMLS #1153-1

You probably wont find a non Multi-layer Steel head gasket at a vendor unless its oem.

But a quick google search....

I have not been to every dsmtuners vendor website, but you can find a number of different headgaskets on them. Usual MLS or Copper. The only composites I have seen are OEM.

HKS Headgasket is a waste of money, its nothing special, you can't even see a nice shiny purple something anywhere.

Basically with HKS your paying for those 3 letters and not much else special. Sometimes you get something in HKS purple. I admit I have an SSQV, but at the time I got it, a good sequential bov was hks or nobody. I like the sound it makes. Thats why I payed for it. But the headgasket neither makes a special sound nor is it a special color (hks purple)

I just want to add my opinion and pictures comparing the Fel-Pro and OEM gasket. I was going to use the OEM gasket originally until my shipment came in and found the gasket bent. So I decided to go with a Fel-Pro since they are just as good.

As you can see, there isn't really any difference between the 2 for their firing rings.

Top gasket is the OEM one.

And yes, the package says Permatorque because Permatorque doesn't mean it's the MLS gasket.

I strictly use Felpro gaskets on my car. I don't have any problems with coolant or fire sealing, but everyone leaks oil at the corner where the oil passage is.

I also used to use the Ajusa gaskets, and they are ok, but I'd lean towards the Felpro stuff.

As what was mentioned earlier, holding one doesn't mean that's it's good or not. I could cut out a titanium gasket, put some sealer on it, color it up, and sell it for $300. That doesn't make it amazing just because it feels solid.

More often than not, you do pay premium for name brand stuff and the HKS head gasket will seal just as well as any other gasket that is properly installed. The HKS gasket will still fail if the mating surfaces are to the proper specifications.

I'll take my $30 composite gasket over a $300 HKS gasket.



I do find it odd G-Unit that you are promoting some odd items that are generally un heard of here in the states or we just know well enough that it's stuff that isn't needed or isn't any better that what is cheaper to find here.

I was not referring to how it feels, but rather the engineering that goes in to it. If you have held one and understood the engineering behind it then you know it's not junk. I've used all of the above except the fel-pro, including hks for the last 16 years or so and none have failed. Yes, the stock one is a little more dummy proof than the hks which requires certain surface specs. Sorry to get led off topic by the other posters. Since this thread was supposed to be about composite hg's.

If built correctly[head gasket], surfaces meet requirements, and installed correctly then none should fail.

All metal gaskets need proper mating surfaces.

Old thread but I wanted to put in my own experience with the Ajusa "Fibermax" 4G63 composite headgasket. They are readily obtainable here in Europe as the manufacturer is based in Spain. I couldn't find an OEM or FelPro headgasket when I did the rebuild so I went with the Ajusa. So far I believe it's been holding great at just near 20 psi on the untuned 16G turbo for the past 3 years. It has not leaked oil on the outside nor has it leaked internally. I'm also using Ajusa TTY headbolts. Also, some performance specialists in the UK, NZ and Aus do use and offer these in their kits and services, so it's definitely something worth putting on a mild power build. Here's pics of the gasket and how it sits on the block for those curious:

I know this is an old thread but I'll share my personal experience with the Felpro gasket;

I've been running the Felpro composite for the better part of 8 years, the first few years with standard ARP head studs, I think I topped out around 30 psi on that setup. Later on I swapped out the standard ARPs for L19s with ARP insert washers in the head for a little more reassurance. That setup worked well on my car up to 40 psi and never caused any noticeable issues but I noticed I did actually start to push out one of the fire rings when I pulled the head during the off season for maintenance. Since then I've o-ringed my block myself with the Isky o-ring cutter and installed another Felpro gasket. To date it has been flawless and held everything I've thrown at it including several 9 second/140+ mph passes. Not bad for a $27 gasket.
