I think they still make them but you have to send in a 3000gt shifter as a core then pay a bunch to have them weld it. It's not cheap and I don't think we need a shorter anyways.

Yea I'm sure someone just used the idea and did it themselves. Either way it should function the same.

Steady working this week. Fuel system installed, driveshaft installed. I always forget how much of a pain in the ass solid carrier bearing bushings are..
No fun pictures really, it's still just coming together. These are really neat though. Stock position plus size fuel line clips. They replace the factory plastic holders that hold the brake and fuel lines in, but they are sized for AN lines. Mine are -8 and -6 and stock rear brake lines. Another afternoon well spent, got some small stuff done, and swapped all the shifter parts over to 91 parts. Now moving on to wiring.
Since this is a 91 engine in a 90, there's a few things that need to happen.

1) TPS, CAS and ISC connectors will get rewired with connectors from my old harness to work with this chassis' harness.
2) ECU pins 6 and 14 get swapped around (found this was already done.)
3) Coilpack wiring needs to get reworked to make sure my tach works properly.

I also need to begin running the battery harness for this car too. I don't think I'll be able to use my old wiring since it was a stripped/tucked car but we'll see what I can work up.
Oh and got my other two tires mounted and lowered it back on the ground. Looking good so far! Going to be a very satisfying wash once it runs.

Wow that's so cool, I had no idea they were making them like that! Thanks for the insight. The welds looks pretty bad cosmetically, which is why I thought it was a homebrew thing, but that's pretty cool to have another old school piece like that. I might see if I can keep it and transfer it over with the new shifter base.

I think in that era (late 90's/early 2000's), I let Rob at Mofugas Racing take over building them because I didn't have the time (I was swamped getting Conicelli Mitsubishi's parts program off the ground), but I can't imagine he'd send something like that out. Does it even have the shift stop bushing on the upper stalk? (I can't see it in the picture)

If you're gonna use that in another car, get in touch with me @ [email protected] and I'll cut you a deal on setting it up correctly. I'm not promising anything on fixing up those welds, but I can at least take care of the shift stop if it's missing, get you the correct bushings, and modify the cable pin to actually fit DSM cable bushings.

From what I remember, the shift stop bushing looked a lot like a piece of rubber hose somebody cut and stuck on 20 years ago BUT I can't say for sure. The cable pin was a sloppy fit, and had some shims slid over it to assist.
I have since switched over to 91+ cables, and I believe the stock plastic ends are much smaller than the cable pin on this specific shifter. Now that I have the new cable pin bushings I want to compare all the parts and see what I can use. I have not inspected the pivot bushings used at this point either.

I appreciate the offer to help on refurbing it. I plan to spend some time with the car Saturday, I will report back with my findings!

The cable pin (at bottom of the shifter) is incorrect for 90 and 91-94 cables. Whomever attempted this did not address the issue, but instead just drilled out the cable end bushing to make it fit the over-sized pin.

The "rubber hose" looking shift stop is most likely the original 1990 or 3000GT shift stop. That's pretty much what they look like. We use a metal shift stop on our shifters.

The brass bushings (preferably these should be bronze or Delrin--but on a shifter it probably won't matter much--clutch pedals are a different story (you definitely want bronze there) if purchased for a 1990 shifter, will not fit this setup. I'm anxious to see what they used for the lower shifter bushings where it mounts to the plate, and appreciate the update!

Hey Josh, got a chance to play with it all over the weekend. It's likely an OEM shift stop from the 3000GT. Upper pivot bushings look to be 1G DSM, but proper lower bushings were not used. Just some copper washers on the ends with some grease!

For now I'm going to set this piece aside and run my 91-94 shifter assembly since the whole drive train is 91-94. The new brass bushing set I have is correct for this, so it should be nice and crisp.

Haven't forgotten about this. Busy with life and other fun things. Car is good, nearly drivable. Hoping to drive it home this week so I can focus on cleaning it back up. Detailing job will be fun but lengthy. Also going to steam clean all of the interior. Actually looking forward to this!

Completed all wiring for the 91 engine in a 90. Fan and fan switch wired. Everything held in place with factory style wire ties.
Fabbed test pipe for the exhaust. Old school HKS catback fulled connected.
Wideband installed
Fuel lines secured and finalized
Fixed power steering leak

Current to do:
Cut hood to replace old hood pins with Aerocatch option
Wire in wideband and gauges
Install bumper



Went back with new connectors from Sheridan.

Turbo Clearance. Went with 12" SPAL fan

Car made it home from the shop and spent a couple days cleaning it up well. Stripped all the old dust and dirt that's been stuck to it for years. Lots of hours with the pressure washer...
Once it was clean, had to remove the old clear bra off the front. Lots of adhesive remover later - took a clay bar to the whole car. Car really felt like 80 grit sandpaper. Now its all smooth! Steam cleaned everything I possibly could, but may rent a nice extractor to touch up a few stains in the carpets.

Next up is cutting compound, polish and sealant.
Working on the final odds and ends here and set some time up to finalize the tune. Probably just keep it on pump for now.

For the record I hate the hood latches.. but the hood was already drilled so something had to go there.

Thanks Chris! The white wheels are a bold look but not crazy enough to rice it out haha.
No sir zero rubbing like this. Alignment still needs to be dialed in but so far so good. It’s a pretty calculated fit.

MMM love the re zinc'd hardware, that is hands down one of my favorite resto mods! Just makes working with everything so much smoother.

Love the build but i miss the enkei RPF1's (haha i'm a long time fan of the RPF1's. After putting those wheels through more abuse than any wheel should be subjected to i'm a life time fan of the OG rpf1.)

Yea rpf1’s are where it’s at. Proven Motorsport history, and good looks. Just wanted to try something different with these. Can probably count on one hand the number of dsm’s on SSR’s

-1ga splash shields (front squares, not the full fender liners)
-1g coin holder for the center console that sits beside the shifter
