OEM+ 1G Talon

I've been sourcing parts for this to try to get that final 1%. Factory radio, kick panel, splash shields, and new hatch struts installed. Small things but really help the restoration. Still need the inner shield that keeps the crank pulley area covered.

As with all projects the time always seems to slip away from you! This has been a big year for us; but to stay on topic this is a great day for this car. After slowly building this car, I finally got to the point it was ready to tune. I’m lucky to have some good DSM locals nearby, and one of them happens to offer tunes on the side. We met up and setup the base files and had it cruising and idling better than ever in less than an hour. Another hour later we were ripping WOT pulls and turning up the boost.
We ended the session at 30psi a very conservative fuel and timing map. It probably has more in it but not worth pushing more boost on pump gas. Why only pump gas? I’m all about simplicity and less things to have to worry about. There’s nothing simpler than a pump gas, full interior, get in and go car, and that’s what this is. We’re not breaking any records here folks, I’ll leave that to you masochists!
Couldn’t have a smoother power delivery or any cleaner logs. I’m perfectly happy with the likely ~450hp this provides. I will update with some more pictures shortly.

One thing to add, is that another DSM was secured and I will begin restoring this one soon (let’s be honest, it will be years.) It is incredibly clean, low mile, and only needs a drivetrain. I will be keeping it as original as possible and make it an even better version of the red car, but with less power and more factory equipped parts.
A few teasers:

I’ll have to start back at the beginning and read thru this later on, but just reading this last update- I’m excited for you! I can certainly relate to the YEARS it takes to get one finished, or even running sometimes. Congrats on getting one going and another to start on. That blue 😍.

Here are a couple of pictures to show off the full interior and overall OEM+ feel of the car. Still need to set the alignment to dial it in. Also, I have everything I need to do a full paint correction and seal. I will be knocking that out in the next couple of weeks once it’s not 110* outside! Also installed some euro front corners. Sorry for the dirty garage pictures, we're moving soon.

Sweet does it rub sitting so low.
It really doesn't, the fenders are rolled well, wheel/tire's are just the right size, and the Feal coilovers keep it planted and just stiff enough to work well together.

I just did that today too

Love the build. Super jealous of the building and the cars. Yup all that!

Thanks for the kind words! I love rebuilding these, it’s really not even so much about driving them or racing. Just the art of restoration.

Great build. I would be so tempted to go down the rabbit hole of a build like this if I had the kind of space you have there.

Now there's a name I haven't seen in probably 10+ years. Jesus Christ how are you man?

I remember your absolutely gorgeous 1GB Blue Talon.

Still kicking around, just spending more time with Luda on his other forum for track mustangs now. Still have a soft spot for the DSM platform though. Wouldn't want to build a racecar out of one, but an OEM+ build like this one that @Paintballaa5 built would be an absolutely awesome garage toy.

This is where my style has gone now days.. mostly OEM with some cool extras

Just finished paint correcting it the best I could. 2 step compound and polish with ceramic wax. I think it turned out great considering it’s original paint. Def some rock chips on the front, few scratches here and there but it turned out good for what it is.

Its just paint that can always be touched up or matched but its not a sema build just rock it and enjoy it for what its worth. I had one of those loved it .

I want a build thread for the blue car!
Well since you asked nicely..

Haha, it will be a while before I get to work on this.
