i just recently bought a '99 GST for literally a grand. the guy was moving and coulndt bring it with him. the car is perfect except for the fact thats its an automatic. What are some good first parts to get.

thanks guys.
i was thinkning about maybe getting a fmic and getting a rfl bov. as for an exhaust i really like how the thermal exhausts sound on the eclipse's and i hear the power is supposed to be good also. what do you guys think?

A front mount is good, but not needed with a t25 or even a 14b. And stay away from the RFL, they are known to leak. Look into a 1g bov or a greddy. Thermal r&d is a good exhaust but you could also look the ebay exhaust

As stated be sure you do ALL of required maintenace and repairs BEFORE you start to mod the car. When was the timing belt last replaced? Have you done a boost leak test yet?

As per making your car faster, follow the upgrade path in order. Before you choose to buy something search and research what it is that you are interested in buying so you know it will suite your goals for now AND the future.

The search button is your best friend and learn how to use it before making a new thread. You can search for key words in posts or search for your key words in the title. The latter will give you better results.

Have fun, take care of the car and don't be street racing

Liquidx knows what he is talking about, especially that last part:thumb:

but for real......maintenance>mods

whats a loud bov then? i didnt know rlf's were junk.

just go with a 1g bov. And as for how loud it is, thats the last thing you should worry about when picking bov's or parts in general. Not to mention the fact that it should be recirculated so the sound level will be minimal when compared to a vented one.

what is a logger?

Im sure some else can give a much better description but essentially it logs (records) exactly what the engine is doing. Mainly used for tuning

first get an aftermarket boost gauge if were going to get technical about it LOL if you dont already have one seriously get one, another you dont need a fmic, the smic will do you ok for a while, just get hard piping and get a 1g bov and be sure to recirculate, second a logger, for your case id go evoscan 25 bucks for the software 12 dollar cable and your set, and its really quite simple,
now if you plan on making some decent whp then you'll need a boost controller, get you a wideband, if moneys a problem get safc2 but you if you have spare go dsmlink(ecmlink) its tuning and a logger all in one in simple terms, some bigger injectors 560's will do you ok for right now if your not planning on throwing down majorly huge numbers, and a wally 190 if you dont want an aftermarket fpr, and there you go, sure i missed something here ill go back, then turbo upgrade 14b or 16g would be perfect with that setup.
First thing first though aftermarket boost gauge :thumb:

i'm looking to make around 270-300 hp.
what do you mean by hard piping? and what does recirculate mean?
and i found a thermal exhaust that has a 5 inch tip. is that normal?
also what are injectors?

Hard intercoolerpiping, the piping that runs from the throttle body to the intercooler, and the piping that runs from the turbo to the intercooler, get new upper atleast and get a 1g bov, and recirculate means the excess psi produced goes back out through the bov which is the wsshhhhhh you hear between shifts, flexible piping needs to be run from the outlet to the intake pipe, go look under your hood and you shall see and yes if you get a 14b or 16g 300 is a very reasonable goal with the setup i said in my previous post.
remember aftermarket boost gauge though man, cant stress that enough, the stock ones are crap.

whats the difference between a 14b and a 16g turbo?
i'm buying a boost gauge like you said, i really want a bigger turbo. what all do i need?

if you have spare money get a 16g can be found in the classifieds on here pretty easily, but do your exhaust and intake pipe first, like stated ebay exhaust works fine
and search 14b or 16g in the search area i could do a whole writeup on it but theres soooooo so so much info on that its not even funny, get a hard uicp with a 1g bov like stated and go from there :)

Search. Search. Search. Search..... are you searching yet? You have asked many many questions that have been answered many many times. PLEASE use the search function highlighted in YELLOW . Type what your looking for, and wait 10 secs inbetween each search.

By the time you research the questions yourself, we would have just got done reading your question & maybe hours later replying. Save time by not being lazy. Read read read. Maintenance. Buy dsmlink if you want to go fast along with the SUPPORTING mods in the 2g upgrade path posted above. Follow it and ask unanswered questions later.

Haha i was jus trying to be nice, but this is the basics of dsmtuners search :applause:

ok. im going with a 16g turbo, not sure on what size injectors, bigger fuel pump, boost controller, thermal turbo back exhaust, and a bov

my goal is to make it a fast street car. theres a kid with a dodge SRT-4 that bugs me so i want to make my car faster than his.
he has an intake, and a full exhaust.

If you just want to make your car faster than his you wont need a bigger turbo, injectors or fuel pump. All you really need is a logger, boost gauge, boost controller, I know for a fact that your car will outrun that srt-4 because my cousin has one and we are very competitive with each other. but idk if you can even make 270-300 horsepower on the t25

ok so i changed my mind. im looking to make around 350-400hp. i have hard upper ic pipping with a greddy type s bov. probobly getting a thermal exhaust soon, and im not sure if i should go with the 16g 18 or 20g turbo.

The evo 16g will give you about 350hp, its a grat turbo, The 18 and 20 g wolud also good but look at other options, searching to see what else people are running for 400hp. Also think about your future goals, and budget.

You really want to get the turbo last. Slapping a bigger turbo on at stock boost will not make you any faster, most likely slower because of the extra lag and the turbo being out of its efficiency range. Max your current turbo and you will be much happier. Intake pipe w/k&n filter, 3" turbo back exhaust and a manual boost controller will take you much farther. It will definitely feel like a different car.

If your looking for a loud blowout valve the HKS Super Sequential is intense and will definitely let everyone know car is boosting, LOL. I have one one my Talon and it's almost to loud at times. I also had one on my 3000GT TT and it was just to loud, so had to switch to the Greddy which was great because of the whoosh sound it produced. Definitely do maintenance FIRST, or you will get to know your car real well when you blow your headgasket or worse. A manual boost controller is a good mod also, after you get a boost gauge. Boost Leak test as was mentioned, then exhaust and Intake. Just with those basic modes if you have no boost leaks and running synthetic oil. Oh yeah, New spark plugs with proper gap also. I believe you should be close to beating that SRT-4. All depends on the driver:p and the mods. Have fun and definitely dont skimp out on the maintenance.:thumb:
