Hi i have a 90 laser rs turbo FWD:laser:.. with my next pay cheque i plan on starting my project!!:D my plans are to tint it out 5% rear 30-35% front, duel pillar gauge pods with boost and air/fuel and cut the air can and replace the filter with a K&N one.. my questions are.. mechanical or electric boost gauge.. i want the Auto Meter carbon fiber one and i also want the AEM Gauge-Type Wideband UEGO Controller.. is it just simply replace the sensor and mount the gauge or do i need an AFC if so is the Apex'i AFC NEO a good choice.. after that i want to do 3" turbo back exhaust and was wondering if the EVO lll exhaust manifold and o2 housing will work with my stock turbo being as how i dont plan on replacing it for a while
Thanks for the help!!:thumb:

A mechanical gauge will work just fine, with the sensor you need to weld a bung into your exhaust or you can put it into where your second o2 sensor would be. Some people like to place it where the stock o2 sensor went, but doing that you will shorten the life of your senor , they sell heatsinks to try and help with that. The evo3 exhaust manny and o2 housing should work but with the o2 housing you have to be careful when shopping for downpipes as it is at a different angel than the stock o2.

Boost92awd beat me to it. If I were you I would also do the basic maintance before you spend all your money and have a busted motor. Tint can wait, wideband can wait...grab a logger instead for now. A cheap afc will do fine (safc 1) and 3 inches is way to big for your starter project. 2 1/2 will be fine. The mani upgrade is cool and you should benefit from it. I'd also do a fuel pump rewire, grab a mbc and make a boost leak tester. Then have fun with that for awhile!

I agree with kqodprez. I would start with maintenence(Definatly check your timing/balance belts). Then I would start with the fuel mods so when you get your MBC you can turn up the boost. Good Idea getting the gauges right away. Depending on your power goals a 3in exhaust would be fine if you have big plans, that way you are not buying a 2.5 to just replace it with a 3in later. That way you dont need the tint because most people cant keep up with you to see you anyway:D

first do the basic maintance timing belt, oil change, make sure everythign is working, check all your hoses. pull your ecu to make sure the caps arent leaking. but i would get a new o2 with your evo3 mani, a ported 2g or evo3 o2 housing. but dont buy a wide band until you get an exhaust so you wont be welding a bung into the exhaust two times. but what are your power goals? you need to think about that before you buy a exhaust, if you have a mid size turbo (20g, fp green, anything around that or bigger) the 2.5" will make you loose power its restrictive. but if you're going to run a 16g small big or evo a 2.5 should be fine.

within the next two years i wonna make 350-400 whp.. i kno it sounds like high hopes but my car is only thing i have to pay for, other than plate and cell phone.. i wonna do "all" maitanence as well as exhaust, boost controller, gauges, AFC, HKS BOV and GM MAF and translator by the end of the summer, then this winter(being as how im not winter driving it) do drivetrain.. ACT 2600 clutch kit, rebuild tranny with steel bushings and Fidenza high wieght flywheel and short shifter wide 18" wheels and BFG g force tires.. other little things i want to do is well the tinting and put the talon tsi ground effects

Get dsm link, and just skip over the afc. It will make life much eisier. Thats my one word of advice.

With a datalogger you can look at various parameters that the ecu sees and in turn use those to tune your car better.

i was wanting to get the AEM ECU.. but being as how i cant afford to do that for a while i just wanted the AFC till then.. theres also a guy in town here that has a MAS sensor in his intake mani.. good idea?

i had a question about my tranny too.. is there a way to increase drop from 4th to 5th right now it only drops about 5-700 RPM i want more around 1000-1200.. also will i get more speed out of my gears wen i do the engine mods or will it just make it get to top speed faster

You could change the final drive ratio and get the desired effect, but the way I understand it, the turbo already has a taller gear than the N/A car would have. Make sure it's not the RS tranny.

If you want another way to go about this, how much room do you have to increase tire diameter? It would have the same effect.

Ps. Yes more power = going through the gears faster, or reaching top speed faster.

I own a 91 gst. Look over my mods if you would like, I did all in less than a year and I love it. I actually will be getting my dsmlink today!!! So do your maintenance, then have fun. Since your fwd your best bet on exhaust is to go 3" so it will be ready for future mods...ordered my mandrel bends and went to an exhaust shop and got turbo back done for less than 200 bucks... any q's hit me up

im not exactly sure but i kno 18"s with 35 or 40 profile will fit and i should still be able to put the KYB struts and Eibach pro springs on it(which lower an inch) i wonna have it set up as an all around car because i want to do autocross too... wider tires, sport suspension, strut and sway bars etc.

I learned the hard way by not doing all the basic maintenance first and ended upw ith bet valves when the timing belt skipped. Id replace all belts, water pump, battery, plugs, wires, etc and do vacuum/boost tests first so you wont have nagging little problems down the road.

i want to do those as well as get the oil changed with AMSoil synthetic and Lucas synthetic oil stablizer and get the tranny oil changed with syncroshift ll i want to do compression and
