New GS-T. first mods?

i just recently bought a '99 GST for literally a grand. the guy was moving and coulndt bring it with him. the car is perfect except for the fact thats its an automatic. What are some good first parts to get.

this is a good place to start you also want to go over all the fluids, spark plugs and wires, and filters so all maintenance is done skimping on the maintenance is what alot of people do cause they would rather spend money on "go fast parts" and in the end when things start to break or the engine fail people start to call these cars unreliable.

i replaced all the wires plugs, changed oil, and all fluids. the tune up is finished. now its time for parts

change all belts and pullies? especially timing and bs if bs is still there of course

Oh yeah tell if there's any mods at all fill out the mod list in your profile, then go by the upgrade path and your good to know (also automatics are the new standards these days, consistant boost )

+1 on timing belt and accessory belt... part of good maintenance trust me bent valves suck.

the free mods are always a nice place to start if they havent been done already.. check that link the guy posted above.. but after maintenance, depending on how much you want to mod it i would go with supporting mod stuff first..

he means u have full boost threw all gears ...on a manual car when we let go of the throttle the blow-off valve open to prevent compressor surge and then the turbo has to fill up all the pipes and intercooler again that takes time ....on a automatic this does not happen just consistent full boost ....

and my car came completely stock. i know very little about these cars also which makes it worse. i've never owned a turbo'd vehicle

you can buy a bigger turbo... witch if you want to turn up the boost, then youll need fuel upgrades..!!! e316g is a nice spooling yet reliable turbo... also what are your goals if any?

Theres a pretty well laid out upgrade path on this site, it also depends on your goals. Do you want a fast street car, street/strip car? The list can go on and on, but the first since you dont know much I would suggest get a boost gauge and an EGT gauge and install that while reading up on different setups. The car is also a decade plus old, look into replacing normal wear and tear items like suspension components, maybe even some upgrades. I dont know how much you know about cars in general but some of these little projects help with newer guys learning, as well as more experienced guys just learning the car.

not bad mods to do but he is new these cars and probably doesn't know much about the necessary fuel mods needed when you start getting up there in boost....
to OP if you get a boost controller dint go crazy on boost 16 psi max IMO. and read through the upgrade paths they'll point you in a good direction.

yes the car has black leather interior, i got it for literally a grand. 1,100 maybe?
i just checked the milage and it says 79,080.
yes i do have the owners manual.
the car is 100% stock....and to be honest im not really sure what boost is.
my goal is to make it a fast street car. theres a kid with a dodge SRT-4 that bugs me so i want to make my car faster than his.
he has an intake, and a full exhaust.

Wow man you got a steal, be happy you have an auto, later on down the road when you find out what boost is you'll know why, do shit tons of research. VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions will be your best friend.
I'm assuming youve done all basic maintanence, literally all, you should start off by of course a hard intake pipe, also a 3'' turbo back exhaust to open everything up very noticable dif., then go hard piping on your smic get you a 1g bov, very cheap and very good, no leaks which when your dealing with boost leaks are your worst enemey, and once you start moding the turbo, and piping you want to check for leaks quite often,
After you do all the basic mods first then start with your fuel, go by the upgrade path man, its pretty much exactly what everyones going to say just maybe in different orders.

good info colbyc.... yes man you need to do alot of research learn more about the car and how the components work. follow the upgrade paths and vfaq info they will keep you on the right track and away from damaging your engine... by the way boost it the psi that the turbo is producing....

Boost is the term used for when a turbo or super charger buildes compressed air i.e. boost. Other terms would be psi, bar, pounds.

As stated be sure you do ALL of required maintenace and repairs BEFORE you start to mod the car. When was the timing belt last replaced? Have you done a boost leak test yet?

As per making your car faster, follow the upgrade path in order. Before you choose to buy something search and research what it is that you are interested in buying so you know it will suite your goals for now AND the future.

The search button is your best friend and learn how to use it before making a new thread. You can search for key words in posts or search for your key words in the title. The latter will give you better results.
