Hello there, I recently got back into the DSM game after selling my old talon.

I just got a rust free black 1990 GSX with an awesome condition checker interior and have been stocking up on some parts for it as well as using parts that were on it when purchased.

My plan is just to push the small 16g to its limit and then get a larger turbo afterwards.

Here is my full mods list.

ENGINE AND TRANNY
1..20 6 bolt with wiseco 8:5:1 pistons, Shot peened rods, ARP studs (balance shafts removed and no AC)
2. 3 angle valve job rebuilt head with 272 cams
3.ACT2600 clutch
4.Shep racing #1 & #2 syncros and shift fork

TURBO AND EXHAUST
5. Ported 2g Exhaust manifold with 44mm HKS wastegate dumped of course.
6. Small 16g with Bullseye housing ($270)
------Ported inlet removing the lip (as seen below), j pipe outlet ported to 2"

16. MAFT with 3" MAS ($150)
17. Dual type RS bovs (vented) ($70 for both)
18. Port matched intake manifold

Forgot to mention I plan on running 25 psi on this set up.

Any input would be great guys. Don't be afraid to post!

Are you going to be running E85 at the 25psi? Do you have a track time that you are expecting as well?

No E85. I don't know much about it and haven't looked into it much. I'd love to hit high 11's with it. I will take what I can get though. Also forgot to mention I am working on a water injection.

ya thats set up looks good i think you should be able to get to the 11's with race gas.ad instead of water why not meth injection

I think your injectors should work perfect as long as they are coded into your eprom chip. you also have the afc for fine tuning. It may allow some room to grow as well! I had 1000cc on my last one and it ran like stock with stage3/afc combo

Sounds like a big list to accomplish, and do you plan on using your small 16g for all of that. If I were you'd I'd at least get a Evo 16g or even a 20g, but what are your HP goals set at (I dont know if you metioned them), I was always told to get a HP goal and find the mods to get there rather than getting the mods and seeing what you can make. Well any way, keep us up dated on your build, sounds like it'll be sick when you get done with it.

I would say you will definitely be pushing the s16g to its limits(past) with the cams and 25psi. I personally dont think(know) it will meet your motors cfm requirements at the 25psi and would be much more efficient in the 20-22psi range. I think that the s16g is one of the most underrated dsm turbos for the street and has proven many low 12sec timeslips. I would love to see you hit high 11s(as you stated) with your setup and that would be a great accomplishment. Then when you do upgrade to something bigger and run 25psi, look out! Good luck, cant wait to see results!

I have most of the parts since this is a budget build, others are on the way. Waiting for some warmer weather to start assembly and also need to do some fab work still.

I will be sure to post number and times when the time comes.

Hopefully the 16g will last me all season and I will be putting in a larger turbo, probably a BB 50 trim. I hae a 20g on the car now but it is going to be for sale soon so I can finish this build.

A little update.

Finished the porting and polishing on the BEP small 16g. Bead blasted the entire thing (disassembled) and it got 4 coats of ceramic coating baked on.

Picked up a brand new Greddy RS BOV for $20!!
HKS turbo timer for $25 this weekend
and some FIC 650cc injectors for $120 (going with them until I get some larger ones if I max them out)
Doing my best to keep this build as cheap as possible while still keeping it reliable and using quality parts.

Pics. (sorry they are with a cell phone)

Waiting on the rest of my an fittings to finish my catch can.

im defintly going to keep an eye out for this topic its very interesting and your setup sounds awsome. defintly keep us all posted and best of luck to you. :thumb:

Thanks. I should be digging my heels in very soon. The main thing holding my back at the moment is that the car is at my work buried in snow. I need to move my TA out of the garage somewhere and put the gsx in. In the meantime I will just keep adding to the pile of parts in my bedroom. haha

why not use the 20g on this setup? Just curious. Is this car used on the street? If so it would be a monster! I must say though my BR20g really doesnt seem to lag any more than my old e316g. Like the work done to the turbo nice and thorough and clean!

Well I really plan on using a 50 trim or a holset next so I figured I'd see how far i can get with the small 16g. Plus by selling the 20g it will help me fund doing this more than by selling the 16g.

I've had about 3 holset's and never actually used one yet. Here is one I Polished up earlier this year. I'd really like to give on a try.

And yes this car will be spending 90% of its time on the street.

Pic of my old car.
