i have a S16G with 2.5 inch dp and 3 inch exhaust. hallman boost controller, ported 02 housing and manifold. im running 16-17psi...when should i get full boost with this setup? Under load in 3rd and 4th i can build full boost by 3200 or so and in first from a roll it comes on about 3800. Is this normal for this turbo or is somthin up...a couple buddys of mine get there 14b to spool in 3rd at around 2000. just seems like i should spool a little faster...14b isnt that much smaller is it. Anyway thanks for any info.

I don't think they mean they get full spool on a 14b at 2000rpm. With my cracked exhaust manifold I get mine to spool around 3200 or 3300 rpm. But my buddy gets his fully spooled at 3k rpm. Do you have the manifold or the turbine housing ported?

I get full spool to 17-18 psi on my s16g at around 3200in 3rd and right at 3k in 4th. I have a bolt broken off between the manifold and the turbine housing, so I'm sure that isn't helping me at all. Have you checked for boost leaks? They'll definitely kill your spoolup.

3200rpm seems on the high side...

I hit 20psi in 3rd gear at 2,800-2,900 weather dependant (on an Evo 16G), but I also have a 3" downpipe, I don't know if that makes that much of a difference.

Well this is all sounding about right i guess....i havent seen what my spool will be like in better weather yet. It has been up in the 90 degree range for the last week or so. id imagine with cooler weather i would spool by 3000.

thanks guys

That's probably the explaination. Hot, humid days = very slow spool. When its around 80-100% humidity around here (most of the summer) my turbo feels like its unoiled or pumping water (which it is).

Check for pre-turbo exhuast leaks anyway. Just start the car cold and feel around before it warms up. You can usually even hear them by standing under the hood and reving it hard.
