Sold my DD civic coupe and thought i was getting into an awesome deal until i got on the road heading home with this talon. noticed a change in the way the car drove performance wise, finally got it home around midnight and the car was soo damn hot i had no choice but to allow the turbo timer to run the full 10 and half mins. LOL. after that was done i checked the upper radiator hose and it was still very very hot.

issues so far:

1. coolant problem, thermostat? radiator cap? figure i'd replace the easy stuff to save the hassle.
2. oil leaking inbetween the motor and the firewall, you can smell and see the burning smoke coming from behind there and that where its leaking on the ground also. have not yet gotten underneath the car to pinpoint it but plan on it this week.
3. passenger side window is inoperable right now. if you put it down theres a chance you may not get it back up, luckily we got the automatic window and a pull of the window itself to raise it and close all the way!
4. No tuning software at all with all the mods that are on this car i can see why the 1st motor may have blew.
5. 2G maf with stock injectors and no way to tune the car.
6. 255 fuel pump, have yet to verify, no way to control fuel with stock injectors.

Mods so far:

tial bov
fmic with all IC piping welded together to limit couplers
evo3 16g internally gated
cyclone motor
o2 housing has dump tube coming off it
aftermarket downpipe Dungeon Custom Downpipe?
aftermarket catback system thats way to loud!!!
blue top 450cc injectors
walbro 255HP fuel pump def has that whine to it
non oem fuel rail unsure of which kind
auxilary fan was replaced and it hardwire to a flip switch inside the car. . .
Shepherd Stage 1 transmission IS there a marking on the shep trans to prove what it is?
Katana SKR wheels 17x8
greddy turbo timer
greddy EBC boost controller I do need to read up on this i have never used on, i'm a joe p fan!

Hallman MBC was purchased last night, also have a dual intank walbro 255HP fuel pump assembly -8an fitting coming out the top! When i arrive back home plans will be made to move the car to a safe location for 4bolt rearend install and to get the car up and running.

Still looking for:

*FMIC kit flanged for tial (leanin' toward ETS 4" core 2.5" IC Piping setup)
*Drag suspension setup

Waiting to email back from hi rev abotu -8an 15ft of fuel line, -6an 12ft of fuel line+ front and rear strut bars in black. Talon should be moving to a friends house sometime this week for install of 4bolt and to get the car up and running on 2.0 stock 4g63 cyclone motor (?), FPhta88 turbo seutp.

Mods will include:

walbro 255HP fuel pump (dual walbro 255HP intank fuel pump assembly is standing by for now, maybe)
1200cc injectors
stock 2g fuel rail (aftermarket one on there isn't safe)
aeromotive FPR
stock fuel lines for now
fp hta88 turbo
fp manifold
fp 3" o2 housing
fp 4" intake pipe
2g mas
3" turboback system
small fmic system (already know it going to hurt me)

aftermarket suspension (not sure whats on the car)
volks 15x7 235/60/15 MT Drag radial

dsmlink
lm-1 wideband
hallman MBC (when it arrives, greddy EBC is in the car now...)
greddy turbo timer

probably missing a much.

Talon is running and has been street tuned on 20psi.

Is now needed
  • Aluminum radiator
  • FMIC
  • gm maft setup
  • clutch/flywheel/tob
  • oem throttle body or rebuild current one
  • suspension
  • fix exhaust

Car seems to be running just fine, except now the clutch (which i'm thinking is oem) doesn't like me that much with the car making the power it is on 20lbs with the FPhta88 turbo.

Took 6 tries to tune the car to get it "done" for now.

  1. 1. Oil filter housing ( fitting i bought took a **** )
  2. 2. There was a oil hose that split
  3. 3. coolant sprayed all over the engine bay, alternator belt shredded and shot off the car (hooked up tow rope to crossmember and was pulled to the walmart parking lot to replace belt)
  4. 4. blew IC piping off turbo
  5. 5. blew IC piping off charge pipe

MODS
  • oem 2.0l 6bolt
  • oem camshafts
  • oem intake manifold
  • oem fuel lines
  • agx struts
  • eibach sportline springs
  • hta88 turbo
  • fp manifold
  • fp feed and return lines
  • fp inline oil filter
  • fp 4" intake pipe
  • tial bov
  • tial 44mm wg (12psi spring)
  • 2 3/4-3" "turboback"
  • dsmlink
  • eprom ecu
  • innovative lm1 wideband
  • boost and oil pressure gauges
  • '2g' weighted shift knob from jnztuning (didn't sit right after awhile but its in the car)
  • 2g nonturbo shift knob
  • 1g noncruise control cable
  • walbro 255HP fuel pump
  • 1200cc injectors
  • aeromotive FPR
  • 2g mas
  • 2g fuel rail
  • small fmic
  • oem 1g 5speed transmission
  • 4bolt rear (replace 3bolt that was on the car)

Cannot think of anything else for mods on the car.

Also removed the AC condensor and the water temps are now staying where they should be for the most part but today driving around where i live the temps kept trigger the check engine, which is set to come on at 210 degrees.

Need to get some new plugs in the car, theres bpr9es plugs in right now had to get rid of the 6s and thats all i had at the time.

JUST A quick question, why do you HAVE to go to MAFt? why dont u get the 1g FMIC kit that alot of dudes have on here, and just run that, with the stock route, then run whatever bov you want...i know alot of guys swear by the maft, but if i was you i'd be trying to keep it as simple as possible while still upgrading...i know thats the route ill take forever. i had maft, went to a stock route, just hard pipes, then went to short route, still no maft...it rips hard...just a suggestions...

Basically cause of the way the 2g mas, fp 4" intake pipe w/ couplers and the tiny lame ass filter fit in the engine bay. Its very restrictive, running a 2g mas just doesn't work very well with this kinda of setup IMO and a bunch of others. We shall see i made a trade for my 235/60/15 MT drag radials that i cannot run on this suspension, for a front mount SBR 1g street setup which is slightly bigger than the core on the car now, better piping setup also, along with a set of 1G oem wheels w/ brand new tires. SO we shall see.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why my damn lugnuts on the wear keep coming loose, and last night i guess when i parked one snapped off on the driverside rear. Not every wheel has 4 holding the wheel on. I understand that the car is 17yrs old but daaamn. I have torque them to 80lbs and still come off like its nothing. I'm going to try some new lug i got but i'm afraid of having to swap all 16 out. I do have extended studs here but i don't think i have a need for them and it would def. not look good on an AWD car with street tires/wheels.

Any suggestions???

You're breaking studs or just the lug nuts are coming loose?

I know a few people ( including myself ) That have issues with broken studs.

You want to make sure you are using the proper lugnut to match your wheels. For example: a tapered seat lugnut is used a on a lot of tuner wheels, a flat washer style lugnut where part of the lug goes inside the wheel is used on a stock 1g wheel. Mismatching can cause breaking or loosening problems.

The guy that had the car before me had no issues with them, maybe its just making to much power LOL. jk. I'll figure it out. thanks for the info guys

Well until i get the cash and downtime, or i lose more than just 1 on the hub i will keep it like it is. Hopefully i don't get as far as your photo LOL, for awhile.

Carrier bearing has 2 bolts back in it and the axle is not flopping around in/out of the transmission anymore. Also ACT 2600 6puck is in the car now.

I want to hit the track 1/8 or 1/4 but we shall see. like to get some slips as the car sits right now to see what kind of MPH the car is making. Espcially is its only 1/8 i go to. Which looks like the safe bet at this point in time for test and tune type nights.

nice ride.. lots of work ... but as you know .... it's a dsm .. that's what you signed on for ..... seee now you see why maintenance is of the utmost importance... very nice build... (wish i was that far ) ... good job keep it up:thumb:

fuel system low boost big turbo :) not the perfect planning but its on the way. Not working the past few months has really put a huge damper on the build. But as it sits now car runs, and only little things need to be fixed.

IE battery terminal, need to get my headunit in the car, sucks with no tunes haha.

Just when I think I know what turbo I want to run in my next setup, I see this beauty.

Nice build man

Thanks i would like to get the money together faster to push the turbo some more as it has not even started yet.

Cant wait to get another DD and park this one and not have to worry about it though LOL. Man the wiring in the engine does make me upset that its a mess but the car runs its nuts off so thats all that matters at this point in time.

That was me that posted some on hondatech right after i sold my coupe. Previous owner IMO is a ..... Not trying to make a personal attack LOL.

i dunno if it was asked, but the issues you experienced, let alone on your way home.. how much did you pay for the car?

$4000 cash was what i paid for the car. Car is def clean exterior wise for a '91 with oem paint.
