Okay so I picked up at evo 3 16g turbo, and evo 560cc injectors.

I already have a wally 255, fuel labs afpr. Should I be okay with this? Also im getting my fmic, and bov installed this weekend.

Whats the best way to tune this thing? what have you guys done for tuning?

I have a aem wideband and autometer boost gauge.

what else should i pick up?

thanks

If you really want to push that turbo, I would use some 650's. But, other than that, re-wire your fuel pump and run ECMlink. You can go really far with that. I would also recommend a FP manifold.

With 560's or 650's you can get an SAFC and a datalogging setup. It'll be the cheapest and easiest route to go and you can get familiar with tuning. Not sure what your goals are but the tech article for upgrades might be able to help you out.

Are you getting the parts installed by that place in Addison?

Your 560's and that afpr will get you stock drivability. Your idle will be smooth and there is definitely room to grow. An SAFC and a logger is a great way to jump into tuning and learn the dynamics of fuel trims and car specifics. If you source the right parts and find some good deals you can get what you need for under $300. Good luck man!

I was using FIC650cc, but with 560cc evo injector is fine with 20 psi. I have several friend running that setup, this was on dsmchips, my friend are using AFC.

for a evo 7-8-9 . 20 psi on stock injector . stock pump, are fine, and the evo 45678 turbo is more efficient and flow more than the tdo5 housing.

enjoy the kick at 20 psi when you tune it :)

Yeah, its going to be installed at Midwest Street Performance in Addison.

So 560s with a safc? for now? until i can save up some money for a dsmlink and all those goodies?

remember im a poor 16 year old that works partime and goes to school haha.

Time out.

Is all of this supposed to be for your n/t?

Hes a 16 year old student that probably makes jack shit. Ive been there, and in some parts still am. Go with the SAFC you will be fine. Just dont expect to go nuts with the boost, id rather push 18psi safely than do 20+ and blow it up. Just take it easy with the knob and get a good tune with that SAFC and you will be good

I don't care what he makes. Waiting a little while longer and spending the money PROPERLY is still better than cheaping out on something that isn't going to be the right thing. An AFC is 10+ years old in terms of what it can do, and is VERY limiting.

^^^Yep. You'll be chasing your tail on a 2g with the stock ECU in charge, nothing like a 1g which has a much "easier" going ECU. There are cheaper routes with an 95 EPROM ECU or the flashable 98-99 2g ECU's and using Jackal or whatever the freeware thats similar to EVO flash. I like DSMLink, and as soon as I switched I started making power, before that I had nightmares modding my 2g and actually went completely back to stock at one point and almost gave up.

SAFC wasn't even good ten years ago. Its just all we had at the time without running standalone.

Nevermind guys I priced everything out and have enough for the dsmlink and all that.

Sorry i would have pics up in my gallery but dsmtuners isnt uploading them. its messed up.

thanks again for all the inputs! I really want to take care of this car and do it right the first time. Its hard to find one thats this clean, dont mean to brag but its in really good shape so i want to take care of it.

the stupid upload thing still isnt working. I have some pretty good pics with a crappy wash no wax or anything and it looks pretty good.

What do you mean by "chasing your tail"? I've not had any issue with driveability with even just the maftranslator with a 2g car with 550s, other than the typical maft wondering tune, that the safc/2g maf does without. The ecu doesn't figure out that you have the safc on there. He has a 2g maf and all he needs are 650s to push the evo3 16g to the limit which the low timing advance of the 2g ecu and the safc can deal with jsut fine. He's only running 560s. Also, there's evoscan, a logging solution for a 2g that actually spits out a knock sum. Best logger for any generation dsm, next to ecmlink's logger, IMHO.

But I'm glad that you have enough for ecmlink. You won't be dissappointed.

^^^You were lucky then. My 2g ECU locked itself in low octane mode for 2-3 years, nothing could get the car to run right. Finally I had enough and bought DSMLink and the car was transformed.

What happened????? This is news to me. How did your ecu know something was wrong unless it wasn't tuned correctly??? The only feedback to the ecu is via the narrowband front o2 sensor, MDP, or rear o2. the maf output is doing the fooling the IAT/baro/ECT/Knock/etc. arn't sending off anything different. How did the ecu figure out you're airflow was so different than actual unless your fuel trims were way off because you didn't have a decent tune. Or unless you ran into terrible knock frequent enough not to let the ecu go back to the higher octane map, which is also the symptom af poor tuning.

If a SAFC was bad technology, then they would have discontinued it from lack of sales. a SAFC/MAFT combo will be fine for most of us out there with a mildly modified car that isnt pushing 30psi of boost on an hx40. Stop being so biased and actually help the kid out. Now he said he has enough for ECMLink. You can get a used SAFC with a MAFT and Maf for like $150 if you look. Thats much much cheaper than ECMLink and much easier to use.

Not sure what the problem was, it very well could have been something as simple as a boost/vaccum leak, but every other diagnostic was done about as long as my arm. However, even on DSMLink it would on occasion default to a low octane map, even though DSMLink resets to high octane mode on every startup. With the sophistication of ECMLink, I think any of that nonsense is ancient history.

Yeah, its going to be installed at Midwest Street Performance in Addison.

I live in Addison and Ive never heard of that place. DSMs are easy enough to work on yourself, especially something like an intercooler install, you learn from working on your car. Soon you'll be able to build/ install stuff that you never thought you could do. Also, get a oil pressure gauge and save your ass.

Get ECMlink. An AFC cannot tune timing, or load based fuel, or tune MAF's. Spend the money RIGHT the first time.
I couldnt agree with with more, Andrew. :applause:

Im going to have them do the gauges because I want those done right and I dont have a welder to weld in a bung for the wideband.

but my fmic should get here this week. Its a punishment racing one and it comes with a genereic greddy bov. But I ordered a synapse one to replace it.

I found a good 14b laying around in my garage with no shaft play! so im going to throw that on there until i get my dsmlink. because the fmic wont work with the t25.

Do you think id be okay for a few weeks? or should I tune it with a safc?

Safc's were decent back in the day but they are garbage now, wait for link, the only reason people used them because there was nothing else. No point for installing the Safc when link is on its way.
So you'll be running 560s, a 255, and a 14b? What happened to the e316g? Do you have a afpr? Is this your DD?
