i wanna try this in my 95 Tsi AWD but i have a question

is ok if i connect the Pin #86 from the ECU to the speed signal from the pump?

I have not looked into hooking up the VSS to the ecu at all.

A quick measurement yielded approximately 11" for the total height of the pump.

Yep having link control the pump speed would be nice. My concern is that if you leave the pump running all the time will it burn the motor out.

the speed signal regulate the speed from the pump? what is the function from that signal?

My understanding is that the pump speed is controlled based on vehicle speed. As the faster you go there is less need for assist. You really don't want alot of assist when your going at speed as it will cuase over compinsation for steering input. Short answer you'll wreck. There is a sensor located on the steering shaft that also goes to the steering ECM that also adjusts for demand.

I've had absolutely no difficulty with overcompensating when turning. Feels like power steering...very nice power steering

The Clio pump draws less power at idle, but it looks like about the same at full lock as the MR2 pump, is that right? Might be easier to locate an MR2 pump though, and it will likely be a little less expensive.

I believe that any PS system, especially one used on a track car needs a cooler. A cheap heat exchanger would be an automatic transmission cooler from a van, suv or truck from your local you-pull-it automotive recycling center . Good luck.

I can imagine it doesn't since it's not constantly under pressure. I'm not sure how it works but I can't imagine that electric motor is constantly running.

I've got a 90 or 92 MR2 pump for my Talon. Maybe I'll do this swap sometime over the summer but I doubt it, school and lack of funds is kicking my ass.

You don't need a cooler but it can't hurt imo. Link can control the pump with either the FPS or EGR outputs.

I have been doing some research on EHPS pumps for a conversion lately. Seems super popular with the Honda crowd, but basically pretty straight forward. Seem like the speed-based adjustment is a nice feature to incorporate, but not absolutely needed with the 02-05 MR2 pump (not sure if years are right, '01 too?). If anyone does hook it up to Link, I would love the details, as I'm still a total newbie with electronics.

Personally I've not looked into utilizing the VSS function of the toyota pump. What is the exact function of the wire that connects to the front of our factory pumps?

It raises the idle when the ps pump is in use. So you dont stall.

I'll be doing this swap sometime this year. I will first be doing the GM alternator swap knowing that the MR2 pump needs more power. And before that I need to get my other projects done.

I hadn't planned on running a cooler before it was brought up in this thread, but I think I will now. They're small and cheap enough, so I really don't see any reason not to.

I've found the Clio pump before for cheaper than you and Drew purchased it, but not sure if it's the ideal pump to go with over the MR2. Would you go with it again if you were looking to purchase one now?

Unfortunately, it's probably going to be a good 10 months before I get my car out of the storage unit and into a garage again. So far, I don't have any reason to want to use any other pump, but I'll be able to more accurately answer that after I get it installed and get some driving time on it. I do really like the simplistic design (attached reservoir, two wire connection, etc...). I wish I didn't have to wait so long to play around with it, but I don't have any other choice right now. Rest assured, there will be a full write-up when the time comes.

I also liked the attached reservoir and 2 wire connector as well. And it should be fairly easy to tuck down below the current reservoirs I would guess.
