My 2G already has a 14B...would a big t28 be a headache?

Like the title states I bought my 2G awd Tsi with a 14B mod/upgrade already done to it. Since it's already been converted to the 1G style turbo setup would attempting to put a Big t28 just be a counterproductive headache? The only reason I ask is because I know the Big t28's are rated @ 350hp which is exactly what I'm shooting for. I'm trying to get a turbo with the least amount of lag that will get me to 350 awhp for daily/street driving.

It is your choice on what you wanna buy to be honest.... I say the go for spending just a little more and get the 20g and look for a good used 7cm housing(Justin or pj90x may habe 1 laying around) and throw it on the car to make your world alot easier.
e316g will be a little harder to maek that power with but will get you to your goal no problem so it is all about what you wanna do

I really like the 20G w/ a 7cm housing idea. It seems it would be more reliable @ that power level thus taking stress off of the whole setup. Does anyone have any experience w/ a 20G/7cm setup and spool time?

We used a TD05H 20G in a 7cm Evo III turbine housing on a buddy's fully-stock 2G TSi AWD a few years ago....saw full boost around 3800rpms in 3rd with the stock cams.

Not bad...least I know I could get on it on the highway if I needed 2 pass somebody with that turbo.

You don't only make power at full boost, I have enough power at 2500rpm on my td06 20g (bought from Justin btw, love the turbo & dealing with him was great) to pass people on the freeway without any issues. I'm on BC272 cams as well.

I was kinda thinkin cams were gonna be necesary down the road to get more responsive acceleration/better spool. I'm just gonna cross that bridge when I come to it though...after I've got the tuning software and better injectors.

Cams will do neither of those for you, it seems that you're on the right path but make sure you keep reading before doing mods.

I was kind of wondering the same thing...maybe to them if you've already saved that much it's worth it just to double it? Maybe I should also mention that I want this car to be as sleeper as possible and an EVO III 16G is in essence a "stock" turbo and looks as such. Everything will be plumbed back into the exhaust/intake/etc, no venting to the atmosphere or obnoxiously loud O2 dump, I'm going to paint the FMIC with radiator paint when I get it... Cops around here write you tickets for making eye contact with them at a stop light, so drawing any of their attention by having my car spool up louder than a semi and then go PSH PSH would probably get me pulled over and sat in the back of a police car for being a "public menace/disturbance". Plus, I don't want all these guys rolling around in there forced induction monte carlo ss' saying they got a 7 sec car to EVER see me coming! :sneaky:

Yeah because your cars going to be 7 sec on a e316g.

U missed the point dude...I know I'll never have a 7 sec car, but I also know that MOST of homeboys rolling around with their turbo V6 Grand Nationals and Monte Carlos are lying out their ass saying they've got 6 and 7 sec cars. I was saying I didn't want them to have a clue that I'm about blow their doors off.

I would stick with the MHI Evo III if possible. All ported and dump openly ported. There lots of power in these turbines, if proplery tuned. Also if worried about lag time throw the 14b hot side on sacarfice a little top end for that quick spool up. Thats the set-up im running, love every bit of it.

Its deffinetly possible. I just prefer the 16g. There cheaper :) I do think holsets are great but they take FOREVER to spool

forever to spool? your wrong buddy they spool faster than other turbos compared to there size. im gonna be running a hx55 now thats lag for you

While I love the idea of the holsets...and how fast they spool and how durable they are...that's just 2 much of a headache for only a 350AWHP final goal. I was really sold on the E316G, but I dunno if I'll have the resources to get this "elusive tune" everyone keeps talking about to make that kind of power on that turbo. If it's more possible than people are making it out to be on that turbo then I'll reconsider...but the 20G/7cm housing seems to be the easier more relaible way to get there...unless I've just completely misunderstood everything on here. Please still feel free to chime in...

Bingo, with gas being the limitation it's easier to make 350whp on say a 20g or 50 trim than it would be on a 16g, and just because you make 350whp on a 16g doesn't mean your peak power won't be @ 6k or so then drop off, vs a 20g or 50 trim which will pull to redline (assuming you're not maxing out the turbo that is), and where's the fun in shifting @ 6k when they want to rev out to 7500 stock? :sneaky:

Huh. I figured It wouldnt be any different than say an hx40 my bros car has an hx40 and he doesnt spool up all the way till around 5500. Hx55!? It would be AWESOME for a race car, but i would get impatient waiting for it on the street. I like my E16g. But deff thanks for the info. Im pretty new to the turbo world.:ohdamn:

It will take allot for 350awhp on a 16g! ..everyone on here thinks their cars are faster than everything & make 100's more hp than they actually do.

Get a 50/57/60 trim. Still pretty fast spool & make. More power ,better.close in price, & once you 300+hp. I Garantee you will want more!

Which incurrs another $200-$250. Then you might as well, go with one of the other suggested Turbo's,

LOL So if someone prefers a e316g or 20g setup, they should buy a bigger turbo instead of buying a external wastegat? ROFL Hate to tell you, but most guys with bigger turbos run externals too.
I went with a external on my 16g because it :
a.eliminated boost creep on 16g
b.would eliminate creep on ANY OTHER TURBO I BOUGHT

Your argument makes no sense as a external setup will always be a benefit.

I was talking about boost creep and not having to deal with it, Bigger Turbo setups will run ext WG, but with just going with something other than a 16g is something you wont have to worry about after the install,.

So boost creep is less of or isn't a problem with a 20G turbo? I plan on using a ported 7cm housing to get rid of that step which causes turbulence and therefore boost creep problems.

Its always a issue...but more so with smaller mitsu housed turbos. Porting helps and if done properly can eliminate it.

Boost creep means you're not running enough boost. Run 22psi on a 16g and you shouldn't creep, it's usually an issue with low boost (15psi creeping to 20 for example) from my understanding.

yeah, not really a good advise but then if you are running more boost, you wont creep as less exhaust gas needs to be bypassed. So it cures the creeping issue in a way, as long your set up permits and get tuned for it.
