Hi, I just picked up a Mighty Max (sold my Talon to do so) well I can't stay away from the turbos. I've been looking at my choices of motors to drop in and I've come up with a couple options that I'd like to have input on.

Option 1:
Keep the 4g64 block and build the bottom end to handle boost, I figure either 2.4 or 2.1 as they'd cost me about the same to build, and I have a fresh 4g63 head. This would entail using either the Magnus RWD manifold or an Evo Manifold (I'm still looking for runner size info on this front) with ECMLink

Option 2:
Buy a used 4g63t and do the same as above for quite a bit less as I wouldn't need to build the bottom end for a while.

Option 3:
Locate a used Evo 8 or 9 Motor, use a DSM Intake manifold (again need to check the runner size), still using the stock Evo turbo setup but would need the Evo wiring harness and Tatrix.

I guess my biggest problem with option 2 is that all of the 4G63t motors that I've found used are 100k+ in millage so they could use a rebuild/refresh anyway.

As you probably know, you would have to keep an eye on the block ear width - narrow Vs. wide block. Transmission could be an issue depending on you power goals. Y0u may want to look into a 2G head/Evo intake combination. Do Evo blocks have the same tranny bolt pattern?

There is a community of like minded people listed below. They have a forum as well.

Good luck.

got one broken one machine shop does dot want to do just one,has anyone done it themselves?

I haven't seen anything regarding the Evo block being narrow or wide (at the lease I would assume the MR is a wide block). I know the Mighty Max has a narrow block. I've also been looking at the work around for the firewall & tranny options, but if any new information has come about I'd be all ears.

How is this relevant to the conversation at hand?

Option 1. Its pointless to get another when you already have one that runs, and you would be losing .4l displacement. A 2.4 is just a bigger 4g63, MANY things are interchangeable. You could also still utilize some stock rods, since they are the almight 6-bolt big rods. Add some cheap wisecos and you got a pretty stout motor, or go all built. Make sure that your mighty max is a narrow block, majority of mighty max are wide block.

Although the the intake runners are somewhat similar on dsms and evos, you wont be able to use the evo intake manifold, due to the location of injectors. DSM injectors are on the head and evos have it on the intake mani.

A evo 8/9 motor is gonna be expensive and will need a lot of other things to be utilized, and even then with the way the evo is setup the intake would point in the wrong direction, negating any benefits.

No idea what da hell happened,i started a new thread so dont flame me for that LOL

I saw a show on TV once where some dudes had dropped a 4G63T into a mighty max. That was one mud-slingin' little truck. I def go with op 2.

If anyone can confirm that this has the beefy 1g rods I'd be more apt to doing that option, but as I'm looking at it I'll need to drop 750 for the pistons & rods alone. Although this would allow me not to have to do the bottom end for a while.

I could see this being an issue if it was the Evo head with a DSM manifold, where I would have no injector ports, but this option gives me 8 injector ports (aren't there some people that pay extra for that?) I could just plug one set until I'd need them.

I believe this is a narrow block, the bottom 2 tranny bolts are ~12 apart (I haven't broken out the tape measure)

I wouldn't make this off road, I'm looking at tubing the rear end and seeing what I can do for a stronger drag rear end, but that will be a separate thread in the drive train forum.
