Max safe boost? [Merged 10-6]

i would wait just to be on the safe side. plus, your car is apparently fine how it currently is. when you spend the time to tune it again, you wanna make sure you tune it good.. so it isn't a waste of time and effort. might as well wait until you have your better tuning tools then... makes sense.:D i would say hold off, then when you get your parts go ahead and mess with it. if ya need any help with the tune let me know. but it is pretty self explanatory. :thumb:

ok my friend is selling me his whole 16g ported and cliped set up with 650cc injectors tubular headers intake throttle body and a few ods and ends for 800 bucks. because hes upgrading to a bigger turbo.

my question is what would be a safe amount of boost to run with all of that on a stock 7 bolt 14 psi? any help or advice would be nice thanks.:hellyeah:

Yes for a stock 7 bolt 14 psi would be good, just make some 3rd gear pulls and check to see if you get fuel cut.

Also when you install the the injectors make sure you have something to tune it with, safc should be good for 650 injectors, an evo 9 pump or 190 fuel pump should do the job to run 20 psi. TUNE.

14 PSI is safe. But if you run a high PSI (20 psi) as an every day drive, it can cause enging wear, and possibly blow the motor. But if you want to set it high to show some ricer in a Civic that he aint fast, then do it. But just make sure you put it back down when your done.

hes selling me every thing to bolt it on to my car how is that not worth it 16g= 600 + port and clip +100 tubular manifold 400+ 650 injectors +250 intake 100+ ods and end stuff 100+ plus hes gonna help me slap it on the car i don't have any thing to tune it with but i was thinking of just getting a keydiver chip and let him do it

a 16g is not worth that much , injectors you can also get a lil cheaper, you can just bolt it on nothing else is needed,

what kind of intake is it ?

what kind of manifold ?

You can get brand new Evo3 16G's for less then 500. How can he charge for port work that was already done to the turbo long ago? You can also bolt it onto your stock manifold, do not need tubular ones. You can also get brand new injectors for that price. Odds and ends? Is he getting you new gaskets, bolts, and washers for the install or the kit to fit 16g on a 2g?

If you get a keydriver you will only need to tune small amounts with the afc.

so then don't buy this set up from him.... hes running 500+ hp at the dyno with this it flow;s i bleve he said 605 cfm but i work a mim wage job and cant afford much you guys think it would just be better to buy a cat back "ebay" and just leave it like that i live in Maine and the roads are crappy as hell and like one of my friends said i really don't need a car any faster then i have. i need quick advice because i need to let the guy know asap

I wouldn't buy it.

You can pick up a used evo 3 16g for between $250 and $350. I just bought a brand new MHI evo3 16g that has never been installed with everything I need to bolt it up to my 2g for $400 off a guy that needed the money.

Plus you would be spending more than the $800 because t25 oil lines won't match up with the 16g so you are looking at another $150 for new lines and you will need a way of tuning those bigger injectors and logging. To put that thing on you are looking at over $1000 if you actually want to be able to feel the full benefit of the turbo.

I would also like to see these 16g 500+hp dyno slips. I've never heard of a 16g making much more than 400hp and this is on cars that are heavily moded and perfectly tuned.

i have almost the same setup just i have the evo 3 manifold and my car is tuned with 18 psi and is capable to go to 22psi but 18 is perfect with the right tune n ya i hope u bought all that for 800 thats a good deal if everything works fine

Yeah I think this guys full of bs. The 500+ hp is a lie and 800 is a little steep. I have seen very nice 50 or 60 trim setups in the classifieds for that.

well he drooped the price down to 600 but on my way home tonight i picked up a 215 dallier speeding ticket so it looks like i cant buy it from him im so pissed at my self i never speed the cop told me i was going 67 in a 45 my sped o was reading maby 60 i stooped with in 30 feat of him pulling me over as he was driving buy in the other lane:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

i just installed a 3in turbo back exhaust and now i have boost creep:banghead:. i have aftermaret boost gauge and in 3rd at WOT it gets up to 15 psi....maybe more. what is to much for stock interals head gasket ect. its a stock 91 talon tsi awd with a fresh rebuilt motor with about 4,000 on the motor. (bs removed)

Your stock bottom end could handle 500whp with the proper headgasket and hardware. What you should be worried about is your fuel. The 450cc's injectors should be able to handle 15psi, but I wouldn't go any higher than that.

I run 27-28 PSI on my stock bottom end. Just make sure your Air/Fuel ratios are not lean and you don't have excessive timing. In all honesty I would get a logger and then a MBC and just set it to 15psi. Your stock fuel can support that.

Not trying to be a smart-azz, but it's just a bit lower than the amount of boost you can run before detonation sets in.

My point is, there are WAY too many variables to identify a "safe max boost"; every car is different. With that said, you 'should' be ok between 12-15 psi...but without any logging and knowing what your car is doing, it's a complete guess.

There are a ton of threads here (maybe more) on boost creep. Read as much as you can about it and you may come up with a way to cure yours, or at least lower it some. Get a logger ASAP and find out what your motor is doing, and then you can either seriously worry about it or sleep a lot easier at night :D

Try to just run some vacuum hose and connect the boost source on the j-pipe to the wastegate directly, bypassing the Boost Control Solenoid (BCS). This will make you run "wastegate pressure" which is usually just shy of 10psi. If that drops your boost down to a safe level, and it holds there, then a manual boost controller will help. If it still keeps creeping higher, you'll need to do some porting.

I used to be able to watch my needle climb to 15 psi with stock pressure from my wastegate to my j pipe with my evo3 big16g turbo and 3 inch exhaust till I got my new FMIC then it wont go past 10-12 so I am ordering my boost controller right now to turn it up to about 15 again. Do you have the stock intercooler system? I am not sure if intercoolers make a difference on boost creep but it changed mine.

Stock waste gate pressure should be 10 psi with your Evo3 turbo.
