Max safe boost? [Merged 10-6]

So I have a 98 gst eclipse. I have intake, ic piping, plugs wires, big 16g, catback exhaust, manual boost controller. When I ran stock with my t25 garret I only pushed 9 psi. Now that I have my 16g in stock was about 10 after boost spike at 11psi. I want to run it safe. So I currently have it set to 13psi after a 15psi boost spike. My question is what is a safe range including my boost spike. All the forums I have read so far always say no more than 16psi with stock fuel pump. I want to know if that is after the boost spike. For example if I boosted up to 17psi as a spike than settled around 15psi is that safe? Or should I just leave it where it is?

Every car performs different to the mods you put on it. The only true way to see what safe boost for your car is to get a data logger and see exactly how your car is running.

You shouldn't be boost spiking.

At the same time you need to make sure you are SPIKING and not hitting 15psi and dropping off.

Do a BLT and make sure your MBC is hooked up via uninterrupted line to a boost source as close to the turbine as possible.

Just to know for future..Im going to fallow the upgrade parth i just want to know about how much psi i should ran this at im far away but. I like to know these things..Mostly because i found a FMIC i was lookin at also that says safe upto 23 psi. I wanted to know if that was to low or about what i need. Thanks

Maximum boost pressure depends on your setup and tune. Injectors and fuel pump, what you use to tune, etc. If you have enough fuel, you can pretty much up the boost to the highest you can run without knock or without having to considerably lower your timing to prevent knock.

16G's usually can't put out all that much boost on top end. I ran up to around 25-26 with stock cams and SMIC, and now with BC272's and a FMIC, I can only hold 22-23 at peak hp (5500rpms). I can have 31psi+ at around 3 grand, and still only have 22-23 when I get near 5 grand.

I kno wi just want to know for when ever i get to that point in my car what amount of boost ill exspect from the turbo.

Every thread about 'how much boost can I run' is basically the same as this one.

The answer is It depends. No one can give you a specific and accurate number. Especially when you don't even have any of the stuff on your car. You could post logs and ask people's opinions on if your tune/boost level is safe or not, but what you asked is not really a question people can answer in a good and accurate way. It's about like if you asked (with no timeslips or logs): "I have a 16G at 20psi, exhaust, and injectors. How much power do I have? Do I have 300?" How do we know? We can not make an educated guess because you haven't actually gave us any real info to go off of. Another bad question: "Can I put an HX80 turbo on my stock car with no tuning". Everyones answer would either be "No you can't" or "You could but it would not work" or "Yes but you'd have a lot less performance than with the stock turbo".

You have 135 posts, but you need to do more reading that posting. There should be a number under "Posts" that says "Reads" or something. If there was, you should have at least 10 or maybe 50 times as many reads as posts. Please don't take offense I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just saying that generally everyone on here should read many times more than they post. This exact question has been asked already 165,589,543,454 times.

This has got to be one of the most asked questions on here a simple search would have found your answer (& is in the rules to do so)

There is no set answer, buy a logger & see what your perticular combo works with.

Best advice, i went with a 14b and couple other things, but need a logger bad. I wish i would have just gotten one from the start. Oh and Daren, I LOVE YOUR CAR, I have your profile saved as a bookmark actually haha

I routinely run 28 psi dropping to 21-22 psi at redline on the EVOIII 16g. On my car it takes a mix of 118 octane added to pump gas to be able to do it safely. On pump gas its about 20-21 psi without knock. I tune by knock, if I see any I get back out of the throttle immediately.

It's not how much boost you will be putting out that matters, it all depends on how much power you want to make which will decide on how much you really need to boost and also tuning is required. You can't just throw in a turbo and expect to make or be able to push x amount of boost without any other supporting mods.

Well depending on what config you get on the turbo, its probably good for about 30psi, dropping to around 26psi by redline but that doesn't mean you can expect that kind of boost from the car ;)

As I said before, no one can give you a definite answer, there are just too many variables. Get a loger & find out what your actual setup will run.

What I can do is give a general guideline for a typical setup, which would be 18-22psi on pump gas. And of course for certain cases this can vary as wel....

Ok, so I have a 18g and Im going to keep this setup until winter then pull everything. I have 550s and a 255 now, and was thinking of going to 680 to 780s. I am purchasing DSMlink within the next couple of months. As of right now I have no fuel management until I buy link and im running around 18psi. How much is too much on the motor. Can I push the 18g to 25psi with the right supporting mods even if the motor is bone stock? Any advise would help. Thanks.

You can run 25psi on the stock motor with bigger injectors, dsmlink, and a good tune.

Do you have the 1g 7 bolt or 6bolt? Don't quote me on this but i believe that the 6bolt rods can handle up too 400 horsepower. The motor should be able to handle 25psi.

Can I run possibly more boost? Also what size injectors do you think would be big enough. Also, eventually I am planning on running e85.

I have no fuel problem with pte 780s, but if your going to be running e85, im pretty sure you will need bigger injectors.
