Max safe boost? [Merged 10-6]

That is too much for stock injectors. !5 psi will kill you motor. I wouldn't go above 12 or so until you get bigger injectors and have a way to control them.

The reason that turbo is prone to slow spool is because of the 10cm2 exhaust housing. It's essentially a Small 16G turbo with a larger compressor cover paired to an T3-flanged exhaust housing from a 17C (stock turbo from a Syclone/Typhoon).

The exhaust housing does have a bit too much A/R for such a small compressor wheel on a low-displacement application....keep in mind the 17C's exhaust housing was designed for use on a 4.3L V6.

You're truly better off finding a turbo that will bolt to your stock exhaust manifold.

Are you just throwing out a random guess? I know for sure at 18 psi my motor would knock until it popped.

Anyway, Since that wastegate is set so high I think I'm just gonna go with another turbo. Anybody know if the 14b would be able to put down 250-275 whp on my set-up? How much boost would I need from a 14b for that?

18PSi? before what his motor blows. He has a stock fuel system and has no way to control air and fuel.

Run stock boost untill A) get an SAFC or DSMlink or some form of engine management
B) upgrade your fuel system to something that fits your needs.

using a larger turbo with the same amount of boost will flow more. The 16g spool time is miniscule compared to larger turbos. It is a variant of a 14b and will act the same, but youll have more of a power band with this turbo. 16g is by far the most popular application for DSM's

Very true, as long as you're talking about a bolt-on 16G. The 10cm2 housing of the Hahn 16G will be quite laggy in comparison to a DSM Bolt-on 16G.

I beleive you maybe able to reach close to 230 to 240 whp with your setup with a 14b but you still going to be able to run no higher then 17psi with out fuel management system. A lot of people have reached 275+ whp on a stock 14b. Did you already buy the turbo???? Also your not going to get much out of the larger turbo unless you have the mods to support it. BIGGER TURBO DOES NOT MEAN BIGGER HP #'S.

I didn't buy it yet but its on ebay really cheap.

I run a HAHN Super16.

What can I tell from the E-bay link....The person did not port the adapter flange between the turbo to exhaust manifold plus he had a leak on the turbo side. Also there is no adapter pieces with the turbo which would run another $250ish to complete it out correctly.

Port matching the adapter plate between the turbo and exhaust mani WILL dramatically change the characteristics of this turbo. Without doing this the turbo will be very laggy and is the main reason people claim the turbo is not very good. The range is from 10-30PSI, I run 20PSI. You WILL need more fuel and some way to control it, but the same goes for a 14B if you want to get any power from it.

I'll answer this one with the same answer I always give for this question.

Regardless of the turbo and engine modifications, only your datalogger can tell you what is SAFE.

WE cannot gauge what is SAFE for YOUR car without physically being there and monitoring exactly what is happening with your engine.

Thanks for the info..

Just wondering, your car is awd and you only run a 15.5 with those modifications??

Nope, ran just fine when I had a 16g for a few years with the stock fuel system, and netted me 261whp on it (95 awd). Used an SAFC to tune, and 93 octane pump gas.

Edit: Err, I did not have quite a stock fuel system... I had a 255lph walbro in the car.

Sorry, Mr. Boxx.....I had to!

That timeslip was from about 2004, the last time my car saw a dragstrip.

That was before most of those mods. And it was my second time ever down the 1/4 mile.

I was wondering what you guys think would be safe boost for my car? It's a new FP18G turbo with a rebuilt engine with only 600 miles on both. Right now it's at 12 psi until broken in, but I already know I'm going to want to up the boost once I get to 1,000-1,250. The list of mods is in my profile, and I know I need a FMIC and I plan on that being the next upgrade. Sorry for jacking this thread but I didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask the question.

You made 261 to all 4 wheels? or was it dyno'd at 2 wheels?

Wrong.. i ran this turbo on stock fuel system for 2 years running 18psi..

correction i also ran a 255 fuel pump..other then that ran a hahn super 16g with stock injectors and stock computer ..ran perfect for 2 years until i decided to rip it all out and go bigger..also..the spool time lag is a myth..it spooled up fast and had awsome top end..i'd reccomend this turbo to anyone who doesn't want to spend a ton of money and run high 12's

Get a devils own meth injection kit, install the mid sized nozzle in the throttle body and up the boost. You can pick up the kit for 150-200 bones. Meth is like 3 dollars a gallon. Half meth and half water and you can be rockin.

So it wasnt tuned at all?

I think I'm gonna go with this turbo then, Thats my exact fuel system and I don't want to worry about havin to tune quite yet.

You weren't getting any knock retard?
