I'm so tired of people asking the same q so now I just copy what I earned rep points for and change the turbo's name. :p
That's too bad, I was gonna give you some points but we are not suppose to give multiple points to the same post. ROFL

That's ok as long as they understand what I'm trying to tell then it's all good. :D
I like your attitude, I will add your name to the "do not give rep point" list. :thumb:

Assuming I can find some decent gas (93+), what boost level do you think I can safely run with my current mods? I don't race it and it is a semi DD with an occasional romp between stop lights.

Also:

1. Motor has been rebuilt (probably 10-15k ago), slightly bored but otherwise stock as far as I know. One or two small oil leaks, but doesn't appear to use oil. Compression check shows 171/173/172/175.

2. APR set at stock 38psi. Fuel pressure with the new APR and WB255hp seems very stable.

3. I'm getting a bit of knock, but hope to eliminate or reduce it with better gas. I'll obviously be monitoring it closely (I have a PDA and MMCD mounted in the car).

4. I know I could probably use a FMIC, but don't see that happening for a while :)

Thanks!

i would say dont go over 15psi with other supporting mods.

According to his profile, he has the supporting mods. The best answer is to find out for yourself. You have a logger, so tune for no knock. Try putting in the 93 octane gas and see if the knock is still there. If not, go ahead and turn it up, maybe to 18 then log it again. Continue this process until you find your best boost level.

Yep... all supporting mods except the FMIC.

My first priority is this damn knock. I know some of it is PK (happens at vacuum, various throttle position, etc., and plugs never show any signs of detonation.) But I'm not gonna assume that it is all PK.

I'm not racing it... just want some punch without putting a hurt on the engine at the same time :)

Thanks for the help

I would stay around 16psi w/ stock side mount... why push it if you are already getting knock... with a FMIC you could definately max out that turbo with the supporting mods. I just picked up 1G shortest route FMIC kit for $420 shipped, search the forums, I don't have a link (wasn't in classifieds)

I was wondering what would be a safe boost level for my car on the dyno? I want to make the most power i can on 93 octane with out blowing my motor.. How much boost should I run.. my profile is updated with all my mods. I will be tuning with dsmlink and have a rebuilt stock 7bolt bottom end. Thanks for your replies.

after checking you profile its seems that you could get away with alot of boost! especially with the water injection. However I would suggest start off small like say 15-18 psi then work your way up, with the v-trim, fmic, water injection, supporting mods and dsmlink you should be able to comfortably run over 20 psi however safety first as you don't want a blown motor. happy tuning!!

by the way nice setup!!!!

start off small and work you way up to much boost on your first run with a untuned car could be pretty bad. just make sure the air fuel mix is right when going on to highier boost.

yeah I went to the dyno like 5 months ago.. I made 301whp @12psi as a base run ( no tune).. thats before I had dsmlink and the water injection. Im looking foward to the spring and im hopeing for around 400whp.. but thanks for all your comments and thoughts. I wanted to boost to like 22-24psi tops.

ok my mod list:

255 pump rewired
550cc injectors
SAFC
3" exhaust
Intake
MBC
boost gauge
evo 16g turbo
FMIC
greddy type s bov

my questions is..will 18psi be ok to run on this set up? i mean like i dont want my head gasket to blow or anything so is this a good psi on pump gas on this set up? Any help will be appreciated..thank you!

I would think that is ok. I only run 15-16 on the street but I have friends that run 18-20 on the street with your same basic set up. Only thing I would worry about is running lean with 550cc injectors. I'm sure someone can chime in and say for sure if 550's are enough.

Providing you run decent gas in it (91 or higher), 18 seems more than reasonable with 550's and a FMIC. If you're super concerned, drop 80 bucks on a logger, and see how much you can run before your injectors max out or knock ruins you.

You really ought to get yourself a logger (or a wideband or EGT at least) to monitor things, if you have any doubts. Better safe than sorry.

How did you tune your 550s without a logger? And if you have a logger, why are you asking this question? ;)

I have a wideband..the setup is currently being installed. i will tune it with a SAFC and use t a wideband to get my AFR's. Thanks for the help so far

you need to get a fuel pump or you need to rewire the stock one... Check out Vfaq.com and AT LEAST rewire the fuel pump... Ill bet that at 16+ psi you are either running lean or knocking... Get a logger... You can actually buy the DSM-to-serial port cable that will hook up to a laptop or desktop... Then you can download (for free) a program called MMCD and a Palm Pilot Emulator and that will do everything you need.. Best of all, if you have (or know someone that has) a laptop then the cord will only cost you less than 50 bucks shipped....

You have to know what your motor is doing if you are going to mod anymore... Trust me, the last thing you want to see is cracked pistons or valves melted to your pistons and cylinder wall... Ive seen it... Its not fun...

Other than a datalogger and a 190lph fuel pump (or rewire the stock one LOL your setup seems pretty solid
