Lower Battery Mounting Locations/Methods

I've been doing alot of searching and trying to find as many lower battery mount locations as possible and to see how people have done it. Surprisingly, there weren't as many threads or pictures as what I expected. I know alot of us do it, so I want to see how you did yours.

I am rebuilding my engine with Evo 8 rods and pistons, and while the engine is out I am looking for as many ways to clean/free up the engine bay as possible. Also looking into a mild wire tuck.

But for now, I want to see pictures of your lowered battery and battery mount as well as what you used to do it. Preferably with a 1G, but 2G's are fine too. I would like to lower mine completely on the subframe.

Yep that was another good read I stumbled across. Really liked that custom battery tray that one guy made.

I had fun making that tray I wish I could still use it with my intake manifold but unfortunatly I can not it was an easy project only took about 4 hrs from design to completion. I am now going to have to relocate my battery to the trunk. Wish I still had a 1g laying around to toy with a version for the 1g.

i know JMF makes a clean looking tray for a small battery that sits down low.

Here is my set up.

I used a thick Aluminum Plate, and bolt it on the Sub Frame.

I drill the Frame, and insert the bolts from underneath the sub frame.

I Install the Battery and had room for the rear AC lines at the Wall Frame.

That looks pretty good. I think I will do the same thing and make holes for bolts. I am also using my stock battery.

My Battery was a little big and didn't fit there, so I bought this top yellow which I all ready had plans on getting it.

All what I did was, Measure the area where it was going to be locate it and find the wright one for the space.
I choose this one, because it has one side with an angle that will clear up the AC lines at the firewall.

Any ways I did some Modifications to the lines, which I am using Braided hoses for the AC, and moved the Fuel Filter to aside.

But I have seen some dsms with the stock battery and the stock AC lines in the same location where is mine.

Just measure all very good, If you don't have AC, then you will have no problems at all.

Wanted to update this thread with my new findings. I came across a way to drop the battery down to the subframe and secure it using OEM parts, I spent about $10 from beginning to end and the battery isn't going ANYWHERE.

Nice, I like how you did that, so simple.

Once question, Is the Battery tray seating on the CROSSMEMBER?.

Wondering, if the crossmember is touching the tray, It will brake your tray at the bolt spot and will loose the battery.
How much clearance do you have between the tray and crossmember?.

It looks a really clean set up.

The tray rests on the subframe but I'm not sure why you would think it would break the tray where the bolts mount to it? The subframe, which I believe is what you're referring to as the crossmember, is stationary and doesn't move.

Sorry. Maybe I'm missing something and that wasn't your question?

I wanted to add my experience to this project.

After dealing with the hassles associated with the odyssey pc680 and finally killing it, with a little help from a failing voltage regulator, I decided to give Corey's sub frame mount method a try.
I can't tell you how easy this process was, not to mention the joy of releasing some stress with a hammer. The only real difference I ran into was I believe he has his AC removed and I am still undecided on removing mine yet. I just so happen have the same size optima battery he was using but due to the AC line running from the firewall I just couldn't shoehorn it in that limited space. After running down to the local auto stores with some measurements I ended up with an Autozone 26r red top battery. It fits nice and snug in the space and the best part it doesn't require any drilling or tapping for the 2gnt battery hold down. I was able to utilize one of the holes holing down the charcoal canister lines. I will get some photos put up soon. Thanks for the write up!

I also used Corey's method to drop my battery, the only issue I had is the stock wiring harness runs right where you need to drill, tap and mount the stud making it a PITA, I also couldn't get my 420a battery tie down to fit on top of my battery as the acid fillers (not sure what those are actually called) were in the way. I managed to get some sheet metal and bolt it down using a stock bolt hole behind the strut tower area.

Anyone else using a redtop battery from autozone have it work without issues? Could you post up some pictures for reference?

Glad I could help at least give you the idea, doesn't sound like it was as simple as 1,2,3 though. I do have my A/C removed and, in doing so, I moved the harness to the old A/C feedthrough on the firewall.

Dont us 95-98 guys have to remove the evap canister before we do this? As this in my next mod after i delete A/C, i swear i rear that its a must but i dont remember if its correct or not.

2g Mounting Battery on Subframe

There are many reasons you may find yourself wanting to do this, probably the biggest though, is because you just installed or are planning to install a SMIM and want to know what to do with the battery. Some may just want to clean up the engine bay a bit and free up some space, which isn't a bad idea either. Whatever the case maybe, to do this modification you'll have to remove your A/C and charcoal canister to make it possible. If this is something you're willing to do or have already done then continue...

First things first, get a shopping list together of the parts you'll need to make this as painless as possible. That way you aren't halfway through the install and then realize you've got to make another trip to the hardware store or are missing a critical piece to the puzzle. The majority of the parts/tools you'll need you should already have on hand and the part you need to find can be had for a few bucks at a local junkyard.

Yea, removing that part of the A/C isn't easy since the dash has to be pulled. Just think though, once you pull it you'll lose the dead weight and drop the battery lower.

Worth it.

The stock wiring harness is only being held tight with a tie down. Once you clip that then the harness is free to move around, granted you have all of the canister lines removed as well. The acid fillers on top of the battery did cause a small issue but I was able to bend the tie down slightly so it wouldn't have pressure on them.

I literally put my battery on the crossmember without any bolts or trays. I used a heavy rubber bungie cord to hold it in place, putting the hooks through a hole in the frame (must remove rubber plug first).
