I've been doing alot of searching and trying to find as many lower battery mount locations as possible and to see how people have done it. Surprisingly, there weren't as many threads or pictures as what I expected. I know alot of us do it, so I want to see how you did yours.

I am rebuilding my engine with Evo 8 rods and pistons, and while the engine is out I am looking for as many ways to clean/free up the engine bay as possible. Also looking into a mild wire tuck.

But for now, I want to see pictures of your lowered battery and battery mount as well as what you used to do it. Preferably with a 1G, but 2G's are fine too. I would like to lower mine completely on the subframe.

Here is a thread I found earlier that was fairly helpful, but as I said before, not as many pics and methods as I expected. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/366762-how-mount-battery-low.html

sometimes i really wish people would think before they speak,
...and if you'd take your own advice, thinking before you spoke, you would've done some research before you asked that question that had already been answered.

Unfortunately accessing this site from your phone is no excuse for not being able to find the information, either. If you can post in the forums then you can search them too.
I literally put my battery on the crossmember without any bolts or trays. I used a heavy rubber bungie cord to hold it in place, putting the hooks through a hole in the frame (must remove rubber plug first).
Looks great. 1g's are a bit different and I stole this idea from a friend with a 1g who did this too, however, I had to get a little more creative. Unfortunately, bungee cords don't pass tech at the local drag strip either.

Yes I need wire management!

Thanks for those pictures, When I get a chance I'm going to give it another go and see if I can properly mount that tie down.

Are you going to try to move your harness bar too? I hate how mine snakes around my lowered battery, like the above pics. I have a Die Hard Gold battery on my subframe and it seems tall to try to mount it with the N/T tiedown. I used a bent to shit stock tiedown and she is snug. I am using a bolt hole closest to the firewall.

I'm going to try and move it around, I'll see what I can do to make it fit properly. I'd really like to do what Corey did on his car and remove the Ac setup from under the dash but that probably won't happen for a while. I'll post pictures if I can make everything mount how I want it to.

Wanted to update this thread with my new findings. I came across a way to drop the battery down to the subframe and secure it using OEM parts, I spent about $10 from beginning to end and the battery isn't going ANYWHERE.

I did a write-up for those who are interested in doing the same. 2g: Mounting Battery on Subframe

Thank you. It's an old photo of the old catch can/valve cover setup. This is a newer one. Craig (calan) who built this catch can put the bracket lower on the body of the can, giving me more clearance on the battery below it. The old setup still had 1/2" or so, however, more space between the battery makes me sleep a bit better at night.

Yea, its only a temporary thing as I couldnt find a way to bolt it down at the time. But it still works though! LOL.
For awhile I ran mine like that too. I got away with it because the bungee cords were black and the track runs at night so they didn't see them. :sneaky:

Recently did this with a friends' GST - exact same battery as presented in Corey's writeup. Ridiculously easy. Especially when you hand a female a hammer and say "Make sure it's flat." :p

The battery set so snug in my experience that the battery tie-down wasn't even really required. Always better to be safe however! Looks very nice. Gets the batter out of the way, and overall cleans things up. Been supportive of this method since the day it was posted.

Thanks again, Corey!

I just did mine tonight. I have a regular battery from Carquest. I didn't think I would ever get the battery down in there.

Deleted my cruise control actuator (still awaiting a non-cruise cable so other cruise control gadgets are still present), factory alarm horn (going to relocate that once I extend the wires), and moved some things around on the firewall.

While I was in there, I removed all my sound deadening on the firewall.

Battery is sitting on the sub-frame snug. I may make a tie down soon. Eventually, I will have to when going to the track anyway. But for now, I am just happy to get the battery dropped.

Pics tomorrow, it is dark out now.

Heres the pics. Need to get some Purple Power. She has gotten dirty later due to my greasy hands all over the engine bay.

Hey Gofer thanks for the write up man, I now know what my weekend project is. The battery relocation of some kind has been on my to do list for awhile now. I was debating moving it to the trunk but I like the idea of keeping it in the bay better (for now at least)

all it needs is powder coating!

but its an option ;)

I didn't realize that car was FWD. So I supose it depends on your goals and drive train type. I get so used to thinking about AWD that I forget that half or so DSM's are FWD LOL.:coy:
