i recently got a 92 gsx with a big 16g 550 injectors a 255 fuel pump and a safc, it also came with a palm m100. i was thinking about getting a pocket logger system, or should i just take it to my local speed shop and just have them fiddle with it and put it on the dyno, i would like to know how to tune myself im just way to poor for dsm link and i dont know how user friendly the pocketlogger is. the guy who had the car before me was a moron and had no idea what he was doin it looks like, im just tryin to get a good base tune, its running super rich right now under WOT.

make sure your base timing is set correct, first, then do a boost leak test and fix all boost leaks. you will have to lean out the afc about 20% to compensate for the injectors for a good start. Although when u show less airflow as in 20% which is a good amount less, the ecu will increase timing. the 1g already has a pretty aggressive timing map and there is not much room for increase and safety. log the runs from third gear starting about 2k-2.5k rpm. you need to check for knock, timing, injdty. you want to tune for 0 knock up too about 3counts. start with a conservative boost setting and go from up from there. The afc by itself is not a very good tuning device but is good in conjunction with a custom eprom chip if u on a budjet. u will need to have ## ecu socketed which is about $60 and have a chip burnt which can vary in prices depends on who does it. it sucks because you have no timing control other that the cam/crank sensor. Read up in the forums because there are guys who have run 12s with afc as there only means of tuning.

I've already done a leak test, and currently am running 16 pounds, is that too much for just startin off and getting everything basic, im gonna be gettin my fmic on the car as soon as i get my pipes fabbed up. also would it be a good idea to switch to a 190 fp since i doubt i will run injectors that require the 255 fp, if i went biggger i thing it would only be to 650's. thanks for the info right there tho.

i know its not the proper thing to do, but i have run the 255 pump on 2 dsm with stock regulator with no ill effects. 16 pounds is a good start. you may have to retune when you get the intercooler on as it will lower the temps and allow a more aggressive tune. i would spend some time reading through this site as there is a lot of info on tuning only with safc. i believe there is a good writeup on rre website. Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance. check that out and it should help you out with a base setting and some knowlegde of the device. maybe look into getting a 2g mas if you dont have one which is a cheap upgrade.

yeah i have the 2nd gen mas, know of any free logger programs, i only know of pocket logger which is like a hundred bucks. also, what about the evo mas, isnt that set up to run with 550's?

mmcd is what i use. it doesnt matter what palm u use as long as it works and is compatible. but pretty sure m100 is just fine. it has to have an old serial plug in which most of the newer ones dont. some new ones u can buy an adapter on ebay

you dont need that, people have made 500whp+ on 2gmas. i would read the rre article on tuning with afc for a good start. you have a potential 12 second set up. maybe look into a custom chip in conjunction with the afc, but you have a good base setup to work with! I may be able to help you with the computer chip

An Evo MAFS is a good upgrade, but I doubt you will be outflowing that anytime soon. Guys have reported up to almost 50 lb/min on a 2G MAFS, almost maxing it out!!

Hey, 2fast, where in the south burbs are you? I live in Chicago Heights

buddahboost, im out in tinley park. were u parting out a dark green talon a few years back? i might have bought ## hood

i know how to write custom files for 1g ecu and can change pretty much anything you can think of. you have to get your ecu socketed of course. it will make the safc pretty much only needed for small changes instead of being your main tuning device

i downloaded that logger software, i got a treo palm from a buddy, im diggin the color screen way more, but now i need a new logger cable to go to my obd cable, so i think i will hit staples up or best buy and start loggin tomorow or the next day. i will post my logs maybe some peeps can give their 2 cents in on my tuning. appriciate all the help!

also if you are automatic i would look into 100% line pressure mod for the trans or the shift box from talontim i believe his username is but not sure.

eagle talon tim is the guys username, he sells a box with two buttons for up and down, i think its $175, and think its only like 3 wires or so. you can modify it to work as paddle shift on your steering wheel if u please. he has a video on one of the posts showing it in action. I use two relays wired in to the tcu and a switch to have fuel line pressure and manual shifts on demand
