Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

i posted my install earlier in this thread(page 3 i think) well, it still isnt done. i recieved 4 couplers with mine 2 2.5 inch and 2 i think 2 inch, well i know im not the smartest man in the world, but you need 3 2.5 inch couplers( one for tb elbow to bov pipe and 1 from bov pipe to into the intercooler and one coming out of the intercooler to the pipe that goes toward the turbo. i emailed them asking about this and i seem to be getting the runaround . first they sounded like they were going to send me a coupler and 2 clamps then they told me to buy them at a local speedshop:notgood: no local speedshop here, so i sent them 2 ebay links for a coupler and 2 clamps for like 20 bucks total and havent heard anything since(been about 4 days now), so expect to pay atleast 20 bucks more for 2 clamps and a coupler...

i guess i cant be mad since i got everything for 260 shipped but still.:nono:

so do i need a 2.5" 90* coupler or 2.25" 90*coupler.. ugh

Bust out measuring tape and find out what the diameter is. Yes, j-pipe clearance is tight down there. Then again it's pretty hard to have a fmic kit/piping fit every car so it's not too bad. Like I said, I ended up cutting up the stock rubber piping to fit for now.

never mind the jpipe thing.. i got it..

not the final product of the day but it is mounted

i got the car started finally.. the bottom nut for the throttle body elbow killed me last nite. got it tightened as much as possible though.

took the car up the street and can really tell the difference. louder BOV being one LOL. but thanks for all the help given. i still feel like an idiot LOL. but its working. now i just gotta get my front bumper back on the car

Ok, I'm stumped...........What did people do with this (all pics I've seen, no one mentions it)
Not the lower power steering lines, (I've already looped them), but the small cooler and lines behind it that run to the transmission. I can't push the core against the frame with it there. (Does this affect auto transmission guys only?)
Sorry for the dumb questions.

Ok that is the trans cooler, I guess no one else had an auto in this thread (I wondered why it wasn't mentioned in the tech guide). I guess I'm going to have to relocate the cooler now.

i got an aftermarket trans cooler and switched it over to the passenger side. not sure exactly how its going to work with the stock trans cooler. i am just using hose instead of those hard pipes to the cooler..

Which cooler did you get, and do you have a pic of your install? I'm assuming you mounted it in stock smic location, however I'm planning to route cold air intake through there.

i bought the trans cooler from IPT, its actually a Tru-Cooler. http://www.ipttrans.com/mitsubishiauto.shtml has worked very well for me. i had thought i got the 28,000 GVW cooler but i paid $79 so 22,000GVW. i know seibing** is also running the same trans cooler as me in the same location behind his FMIC.

i actually thought i had a pic of after i moved it to the new location this is where it was mounted, on the driver side in front of radiator.. kinda hard to see as they are both black LOL

i just moved it to the passenger side of bracket that holds the powersteering cooler there. i had to cut my trans cooler hoses a little shorter but its there and works still!

yeah thats where i have mine but i changed it to from the HOT side of the IC to the cold side...or (driver side to the passenger side LOL):thumb:

Can anyone who installed this on a T28/T25 setup and cut their turbo to downflow tell me whether they think it makes a difference to use a 110* elbow instead of a 90* j-pipe? Dejon's fmic kit has almost the exact same kit as ours, except for T28/T25 they recommend cutting the turbo and using a 110* elbow. I think the 90* should work just fine. Am I right?

I took my Big28 to a local fab. shop and had them cut out the elbow and tig weld the end flange back on so it is downfiring. It looks great and I can use both fans still. I had to cut about an inch off of the lower reducer pipe to help clear the oil lines and also cut off a couple inches off of each end of the reduced 90* elbow so it would all fit. I didn't have to buy another pipe to make it work this way and it looks clean. I'm going to take some pics here soon and I'll try to post. Good Luck!

I just ordered the xs power kit. I ordered the 1g kit. Should I have ordered the 2g kit instead? What do you guys think? This entire thread is about 2g cars, whats the deal here?

I have the 1g kit and i love it but i was thinking that if i ever want to go better, im going to get a intercoooler with both endtanks on the passenger side, so its up and doan not side to side that ill shorten it up alot but i ont have to totally hack and tweak

I wish I could do that but removing the turbo looks like such a pain to do. Mounting the fmic alone took me 13 hours and I didn't enjoy that process at all. I'm probably going to use flexible hosing similar to the stock ic piping to u-turn back towards the drivers side. Looks like there's space enough down there that I could pull it off without going under the crossmember.

Or, I may go to a custom exhaust/muffler shop here, have them lift up my car, then get them to fab me a 180* turn on the spot that does the same thing.

Damn I wish there were bigger turbos out there that can use the same manifold so I can straight swap out to even bigger but downfiring and solve my problem. But no, I need new manifold, actuator, route new lines, etc...that's even worse than cutting the turbo.

Please see post #'s 1390 and 1391. This is not an "ordering" thread. This is for tech purposes only. Please contact the seller via eBay or e-mail.
