Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Why would I have them weld the J-pipe to LiCP?
I do plan on upgrading my turbo in the future, so why spend the extra $$?
My Idea, J-pipe which is coupled to the custom LICPwhich then wraps around the car into the endtank of FMIC. Good?

I think I was suggesting that to eliminate one coupler from the equation. Not sure how much boost you plan to run but at 20 lbs I'm already having to chase leaks and tighten those bastards down every time a coupler tries to breathe. Welding is so cheap, I can't imagine the guy charging you more than 10 or 20 bucks to do it while he's already doing the other work for you. Personally I'd prefer to have the least amount of couplers in the route as possible.

I was just looking at that one too. I would like to keep my support beam...do you know if it that one will work with the support beam in place (i don't mind cutting into it a little but i don't want to remove it)

yeah, I have one identacle to the 9inch wide one above, it looks very quality, all though I cant vouch for how much it actually helps, as I have not run any actually test ie: pressure drop or temp drop.
it fit perfectly in the front hole of my 96 eclipse with a 1999 front clip, I had to cut about a 1/2 inch around the inside hole. between radiator and front clip.

No dont get this kit then. The upper pipe runs where the support beam is and needs to be removed. Its just a 5mph bumper anyways. JJ I dont recommend removing this on a street car, just to cover my ass.

I have read through this thread, there is so much here I am sure I looked over it BUT.. When I installed my 14b I bought the SS Auto Install kit because it was only like 75 shipped on ebay but now I plan on upgrading to a SBR Bastard 20G that is in the TD05H housing so I need a FMIC, I have heard good things about the XS Power/ SS Auto Kit so i am leaning towards that but will I need a new J-Pipe or is the one I received with my SS Auto install kit good enough? I was under the impression that I will need a new J-Pipe but I just want to make sure before I go ahead and order anything.

I have only been able to get the open side of a 12mm combo on it. The problem is I am at that one point where the wrench wont go on it no matter what way you flip it.

Im to the point where Im ready to take the pipe off and beat a dent in it! LOL!

Modify your wrench (grind the outside of it) instead of the part.

Also, you can resurface flanges (i.e. TB and BOV flanges) with a large flat file. You can buy one at any hardware store. Just make sure it's for metal. Metal files have smaller teeth than wood files. Hold the file flat against the surface and start resurfacing! Remember, the vast majority of files only cut in one direction.

The 20G is a downfiring turbo and the XSPower kit is built for turbos with this configuration. Sounds like you can sell your j-pipe on Ebay!

well i have read almost every post on this subject. let me tell ya it takes forever. thanks to the input here i have decided to get this kit rather than the aftermarket upgrade sidemount. it seems pretty straight forward. thanks guys fot the great tech info and pics. it will be a little while yet but definately chenged my course of action. however just wondering if any of the guys who installed it early this year and last year have had any issues with the set up not holding up with time and wear and tear.

I've read through almost all of this forum but haven't seen this particular IC listed.

Anyone with experience with STB racing intercoolers (link below)...its a bar and plate and i like the dimensions of it. Seems like it will be an easy install. I will be running a ported and clipped EVO III 16g.

My intercooler is identical but from a different seller. I got the piping and blow off valve with three year warranty on intercooler for $250.00 shipped. Am very happy with it. Travis

Are there any intercoolers out there that wont' require bumper modding? Bought one of those XS_power ones, and had to chop half my bumper off...

Welcome back boys and girls, yes its me again.... I'm back here to ask some of you guys a question. I have not read the past 56 pages, nor do I intend on it...

Alright here we go. After I got us the group buy on the SS Auto 2g FMIC, I know a LOT of you guys purchased one. How many people on here have ran a GM MAF/T setup on their UICP? Is it even possible?

Sure it's possible and has been done already. You might need to trim the piping shorter a little. I run a normal 2g mas and the pipes are a bit shorter than I like and the couplers are stretched kind of far.

Im pretty sure i could even run it on my SSAC 1g intercooler, and none of my pipes were short maybe long and needed to be cut but not short

Yes, it has been done. I had a pic somewhere but I can't find it. You have to cut exactly 3" of the UICP that attaches to your throttle body, get some couplers for the GM MAF and install it.
