I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I installed my XS kit around 2 weeks ago and Im very happy.

Like most people I had fitment issues from the dejon tool J-pipe to the intercooler core. I had to cut about 1/2" on each pipe to make it fit. Means no flaired ends on the piping so I hope it stays together...so far so good. Think I will cut a little more off past the weld and use a 2"-2.5" hose to make it work better. As for the TB bolt, yeah same issue just takes patience to get it tight.

Did anyone have issues with the powersteering lines touching the core? I moved the lines behind the middle support, tie rapped them tight and put some insulator tape around where it touches the core. should be ok.....

Hey man, DO NOT BUY INTERCOOLERS OFF OF EBAY!!!!! I bought a FMIC off of ebay for $400, worst thing i could have ever done. First off it took about 6 months to get all of the pieces, well all of the pieces that the guy would send me after all of the e-mails. I was able to install the intercooler system with a lot of modifications and hassels. well about 2 weeks after I installed the intercooler I was driving to work and running late as usual when at about 5500 RPM's my car just stalled out, I thought that i had messed the engine up bad, but after i coasted over 2 lanes of traffic with a dead car did i realize that one of the stupid couplings that the ebay seller had sent me basically shredded under the pressure. I had a lot more problems with couplings untill i just threw it in the garbage and bought an HKS FMIC from HKS's website. It is the best thing ever and best of all.... no modifications!! save your money and buy name brand. Hope this helps.:dsm:

Dude, are you sure HKS even make intercooler kits for our cars? I was just on the website and I dont see our cars listed there. I could be wrong, but could please provide a link and pics of your setup/install? Was it short route?

Is anyone running a hks ssqv bov with the 2g xspower fmic? Just curious as to wheter i will have to buy a new bov when i order this kit. thanks..

I've spent a couple of hours reading this 57 page thread. But could not answer my question. What size FMIC will fit under the bumper core without cutting it? I have seen a couple of sizes, one was 28x7x3 and another was 29x8x3.5 with both openings on the same end. Will these fit under the bumper core without cutting? Would there be an appearance penalty? Would these be big enough for evo 16g about 18 lbs boost?

from what i've been told, you would have to by the flange for the BOV (its about 30 bucks) and weld it on...

someone correct me if i'm wrong

I run the hks ssqv bov on this. I did not weld it on. I got a wrx flange to hks flange adapter because I thought it would work because it was similar to 1g flange. and it WOULD have work, if the wrx flange wasn't twice as big as the 1g flange. :(

But I made it work.

I originally had the 1g flange on the pipe modified to take greddy bovs, and of course my real greddy type s was acting up, so i got an hks ssqv knockoff, which btw works great, but thats an entire different subject that has been covered if you do a search, 25+psi tested no leaks btw.

THERE IS a 1g dsm flange to hks adapter. One the site vendors offers it. It was about twice as much as the wrx one I bought off ebay. I thought maybe i'd save some money. No one was able to answer my question when I asked if it would work, so I took the chance.

And as stated it was large. So I modified it so it lines up with the greddy holes i made on the 1g flange. It was a bit difficult because of how the adapter is shaped. It would have been easier to make the stock hole a bit bigger to line up with the 1g flange, but it would have become slotted, and I was skeptical about how secure it would be.

Overall I got it to work, but if I could do it again, id spend the extra and buy the 1g to hks flange. Or if the slotted setup would be fine then you could save half, but I wasn't about to be the guinea pig there. :)

a nice thing about the wrx flange, it is slanted up, so the bov and stock recirc hose pointed perfect back to my intake return tube with no kinks(just invert the recirc tube)

i bought a front mount and piping off ebay and i must say the one that i got is good...welds are perfect all the way around and was pressure tested and held 30 psi firmly...not goin to boost any more than that....just because its cheap on ebay doesnt mean its not a quality product....all those expensive ones that people buy are expensive because you are paying for the name not the product....

mike "lan" i think a 2g fmic kit would be great im looking for a great fmic cheap on price but good quality im guna be running a fp3065 turbo and about 28+psi and around 450-500hp and need a good ic i lik that design that u made a kit out of is great realy i was guna buy that one last month but shit happend and missed my chance but then i just saw that u made a kit out of it but i was wondering if u could ask to make a custom one im looking for one that is around 32x10x3-4 and like the end tanks facing back for better clearence for the radiator if u think u can help me please let me no:thumb: !!!

Any comments on these?:

1. Which would be better for my set up?

2. How much work/modding would be required to install on my '92 talon?

3. What's with removing power steering cooling lines? (read something about this somewhere)

4. Keep my foglights?

5. How do they actually mount to the car?

Thanks for all the help and an excellent thread!

Both are low quality and in my opinion suck monkey balls.

Pipes aren't bead rolled.

No throttle body elbow

It comes with some knock off BOV

INSANELY LONG Piping.

and i have no idea how'd you keep your crash beam with all that piping.

I would say buy this one http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=56632&cat=7:thumb:

.........yes yes i am selling it so i can't be taken 100% serious, but i still think its the best deal you can find on any FMIC designed for a 1g and short route.........considering anything else is upwards of 700 bucks.

All the pipes are bead rolled, piping is alot better quality then the ebay crap. Comes with Throttle body elbow, BOV flange setup for 1g and J pipe so you can keep your stock Radiator fan.

So far i've sold over of 10 kits with no problems.

If you want check out the thread i started on it a long time ago, there are install pictures.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241321

In the end if you want SSautochrome go for it.......i still believe my kit is better all around.

PM me if you have anymore questions. I'll cut ya a deal

LOL

No problem... I'm just getting overwhelmed with the options.

After some more searching, I've decided that those would be too much anyway. I'm thinking more like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/28-x...7QQihZ015QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/jdm-...7QQihZ009QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

with my own custom piping... but still researching and learning :)

And as this is my first FMIC project, I wanna go as inexpensive as possible.

I'll check yours out also

I wouldnt do long route piping if i was you. Short route is better performance wise and it just looks bad ass.

I can sell your just the IC for a cheaper price. I'll be straight with you i cant match the price of the 2 you showed me, but its not going to be a tremendous amount more.

Those ebay intercoolers are generic intercoolers and can be installed on many different cars. So they are mass produced and can be sold cheaper.

Since my core is designed strickly for a 1g DSM with the rear facing end tanks the price is alittle more, but thats ### you have to think about the labor and materials invovled when creating the core.

Shoot me an email at [email protected] or PM me. Like i said i'll work out a deal with you so you won't have to spend alot of cash on one.

My goal when creating this kit was to provide a cheaper FMIC kit for 1g dsm'ers. I just remember when i was looking into a kit and almost had to spend upwards of 700 bucks. Don't think that i'm making alot of cash on these things.

I've been checking those out also along with this one:

I think making custom piping for the two that you mention would be easy. Use all the pictures of the SSAC IC's for an idea. You can buy mandel bent 180, 90- or 45 degree peices from JC Whitney. For my LICP I used a 90 degree piece from Whitney and NAPA sells reinforced hose for presure applications. My LICP consists of a j pipe, 90 degree mandel bent, and two pieces of the reinforced hose (which also acts as my coupler). To do a FMIC all I would have to do is flip it around and get a 180 "U" bend piece for the drivers side. Not sure what the other side would take - I'll have to really look at it.

Do you have any idea if the one that is 7 inch tall would fit under the bumper core without cutting the core?

Does any one have any pics of there ssac-xs power setup with a manifold external dump?
I got a tial38 on my sbr mani and just want to see what kinda clearence there is between the rad and the dump tube.
Thanks

FYI, guys, Buying a core for 100 bucks and trying to fab your own piping with quality couplers and t-bolts will land you right around 250 anyway, so why not just buy a kit? As if 250 for an FMIC wasn't cheap enough, sheesh! I hate to see what you guys have to say when it comes to buying major turbo parts.

I wouldnt do long route piping if i was you. Short route is better performance wise and it just looks bad ass.

Not true. There have been a million and a half debates (regarding the XL Greddy FMIC) and it's pretty much conclusive that longroute vs. shortroute has negligible differences. But, to defend you, I'd rather go with short route any day :D

My goal when creating this kit was to provide a cheaper FMIC kit for 1g dsm'ers. I just remember when i was looking into a kit and almost had to spend upwards of 700 bucks. Don't think that i'm making alot of cash on these things.

You're selling eBay kits or you are constructing your own? I did'nt read that far into the thread? If so, what makes your cores (obviously piping is all the same) better than that of an eBay core?

im in the process of installing my xs power fmic on my 2g. so far there havent been any big set-backs or problems. tomorrow im gonna finish up the install i still havent mounted the fmic, and im gonna made a lower ic pipe since im running a t28.

does anyone have any new ideas for routing the licp for a t25/t28? im just gonna use the smaller c-bend that the kit has and cut the stock flex piping and make something.

also, is mounting the fmic w/ the fog light holes a good spot? should i use the bottom 1 or top 2? the top 2 seem to be a little high for the fmic, and seems as if you would see where the fmic ended if the bumper was on.

Hey Mn person, Just eamil deedee at ssac i think they have a waiting list. and the price is so low almost 200 that group buy isnt even needed

I just got mine on and the car is back running but i have some serious boost leaks. tomorrow i gotta get new t-bolt clamps for one of the couplers because theyre fully tightened but not tight enough on the coupler and in turn is causing the car to not pull at WOT. it builds boost, like 10-11psi, but it use to be at 14-15...i dont think there could be a 4-5psi pressure drop from the fmic, so theres definetly a leak, and im hoping its just couplers. even when im in part-throttle boost like 2-3psi, the car just stumbles. ugh...and the install continues.
