Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Hey Mn person, Just eamil deedee at ssac i think they have a waiting list. and the price is so low almost 200 that group buy isnt even needed

Just so it is clear, if you email Deedee and get on a waiting list, that is for the SSAC 2g kit outlined in this article.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219119
This is the currently the most desireable ebay kit for the 2g.

After Pm'ing twack, he revealed he is referencing this fmic kit which is closer to $200 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...spagenameZWDVW this kit, however, does not include appropriate piping.

Not true. There have been a million and a half debates (regarding the XL Greddy FMIC) and it's pretty much conclusive that longroute vs. shortroute has negligible differences. But, to defend you, I'd rather go with short route any day :D

You're selling eBay kits or you are constructing your own? I did'nt read that far into the thread? If so, what makes your cores (obviously piping is all the same) better than that of an eBay core?

I honestly cant say anything to backup why my cores are better currently. I personally think they are better...................i know this cant be taken serious since i am selling them but from what i've seen i think they are. Either way both the ebay core and my cores will work well for what they are used for.

In the summer i will have dyno numbers and put this thing on a flow jet to really see how much it flows. For now its just word of mouth.

Either way my core does like better :thumb: :thumb:

Well i have done the best i can to try and read through all these pages of info... whew!

Seems like these Ebay FMICs are inda a hit or miss deal. How do thesecompare to the Dejontool pieces? I am looking into one for my 2G and think it is he one I am going with. After looking at prices from ebay the Dejontool is not too much more. So why not go with it?

Jessica

Hit or miss? It's mostly hits, unless you dont know what your doing when you are buying one of these EBAY fmics.

You mentioned you read all the pages, so lets get the obvious out there;

The xs auto/ss autochrome 2g specific FMIC "KIT" is a hit in every which way direction you would like to look at it. It's $295 SHIPPED for brand new, huge core, 2.5" short route piping that IS beaded, coming with 4ply silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps, tested by many for over 400WHP setups, (GreddyGST will prove it to be good for 500 very soon) and used regularly by many 300hp setups. It ships fast, packaging is secure.

The other EBAY fmics might be a miss if you do not know what you are doing or looking for. There are many different size cores out there that people HAVE used successfully, but require getting the pipes or making them as they do not come with it.

Then there are other claimed DSM fmic kits that have wrong piping, and that is a miss, although the parts will still work, the inlet/outlet of the core does not match up with the piping.

Then there are other fmic kits where they throw in universal pipes that you have to cut/fab yourself.

As for the dejon piece.. it is a hit as they are a reputable company, but seeing as they sell KNOCKOFF greddy BOVs and badge it as theirs might be controversy, but that is an entirely different story..

I guess what you are looking for is: the $450 dejon kit, does not include all upper ic pipes, it only includes the lower pipe back to the smic location, this states the obvious that it is NOT short route. Also the clamps seem to be the standard that dejon ships with all their products and NOT t-bolt clamps like those included in the ss auto/xs 2g dsm kit. Also the core is smaller, thus some will claim to be inferior. AND dont forget the $450 DOES NOT include shipping. So not much more you say?

And for their "race" kit, forget about that, because that goes for $750-850 NOT including shipping, and THAT kit comes closer to competing with the 2g xs/ss auto dsm fmic kit that again goes for $295 SHIPPED to your door.

Hope that clarifies everything for you, you sure you read the thread? :) jk

I really am not doing anything big myself. My target is 350 to the wheels. And I see what you are saying about the "race" kit. I also noticed dimmensions on both pieces not being too far off from one another.

I am planning on dumping the AC and MAF so the Dejontool pieces are nice cause you can mix and order what you want. But since I am ditching the AC can someone inform this girl on what to use? LOL and if you say SSAC I am already looking into it.

Does seem like there are quite a few horor stories with other Ebay brands .. missing parts.. bad fitment ect.

And as far as reading this page has been open for 3 days on my computer LOL... just to read it. Great thread by the way.

Jessica

Well FYI I did find their site and the 2G kit is $715 shipped to my house. Are they not selling these on Ebay anymore?

Why is what I found so far off?

After looking around on Ebay... one cannot be too carefull. Found some "good deals" that turned out to be real rip offs after you read the fine print.
Jessica

Just get the 295.00 shipped kit what more proof do you want? 2 strokers on our club running them 1 with 120mph traps and upgrading to a bigger turbo and both still no heat soak :thumb:

All FMICs will have some "fitment issues" becuase most if not all fmics need stuff to be moved around, cut, etc.

With ebay items in general it tends to be blown out of proportion, just like crankwalk, haha. But again this very thread has pretty much shut everyone up on the negativity towards the kit.

As for the missing parts, yes that part is true, i forgot to mention it; go figure, the bias sets in. Anyways, it will be missing 1 coupler and 2 clamps. OH NO LETS NOT GET A GREAT KIT BECAUSE ITS MISSING THOSE! And now its awful because its missing those things that would cost <$10 at home depot.

However, now I understand why you just wanted the core and not the pipes. You want to run some kind of MAFT/blowthru setup. In this case you will have to do some cutting of the upper ic pipes included in the 2g dsm fmic kit. Yes it is not convenient, and yes getting the dejon kit mixing and matching should have it all bolt on.

So on one side you have convenience, and on the other you are saving a good grip of money to do some minor cutting and end up with possibly a more superior fmic kit.

Pretty tough decision there, but did you know you can still easily get 350awhp with stock MAF in place, but you cant however vent to the atmosphere so everybody can hear the pssssh pssssh, i hope thats not why you want to do that :)

I would still just go with the ebay one and save you some money, you own a dsm thus fabricating/modifying parts goes with the territory.

SSAutoChrome 2G KIT for under $300 in some cases (I paid $340) FTW:D

1G BOV Flange, mine bolted right up.....

I use LaN's kit on my 1G and it's awesome other than the standard having to move the AC lines for the short route piping. It's a bi*** but the fitment is awesome otherwise. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 1G kit.

Ive been looking for awhile and Im also getting LaN's kits as soon as he gets the BLACK couplers..It looks to be a great kit for the 1Gs..

Heres my finished produect of the XS POWER 2G FMIC kit. I havent seen anyones sit as high as mine does... I really wanna change it. But I looked at it and it couldnt go any lower really....maybe 3/4 of an inch because the frame goes like " \ " and the mounting brackets would have to be redrilled. I used the stock top fog light holes for mounting. Oh ya and Im not keeping the top grey piece above the fmic, its getting cut out at work I just needed to get the bumper back on.

I have no problem with my XS pow pow IC, IAT's are good, holds up fine (i flat blacked it) and still gets the looks LOL

I used flat black paint from dupli color LOL

Sure people will bi*** at me for it, but its not like its a $600 core haha

I dont see how it can affect things, it doesnt affect surface area, and its not a huge 'insulator' either.

The best part is...when it starts getting blasted from road grime, just hit it again :thumb:

Yea it looks like ssac / xs power is not selling them on ebay anymore, you can buy it from their site but its >$600 + shipping.

And it seems like you cant get on the group buy anymore, who knows what happened.

Maybe just a coincidence, but since this happened 2gAWDTalon happens to have a huge stock of them for $310 shipped. LOL Smart move my friend, smart move, great business and entrepreneur skills. jk :)

Still a great price, just get it from him.
