I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Yes, it has been done. I had a pic somewhere but I can't find it. You have to cut exactly 3" of the UICP that attaches to your throttle body, get some couplers for the GM MAF and install it.

Thanks, I was almost considering doing it on the bov pipe since it was longer... I was afraid that the uicp that goes to the TB was going to be too short.

First of all Thank God for this thread... What do you guys think of this FMIC http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...tegoryZ33632QQihZ005QQitemZ150073496383QQrdZ1 i got it in trade for a V-AFC and i was thinking of putting it on the GSX. Would it be ok with the set up i plan on getting in a couple of months. I plan on buying a evo3 with supporting mods, goal is to run 20lbs on pump for now:dsm:
See if you can find out who makes it. It looks like the small PTE core that SBR sells - http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1003&

the core i have is made by XS Power
The welds look fine on the picture. You could always buy it, pressure test it at 30psi and see how if you find any leaks. Either way for <$100 it doesn't sound like a bad deal even if you did find some leaks that a local welder could re-weld for you.

I personally have not had any experience with that IC but to be honest It doesn't look all that high quality. I would just save up and buy a high quality trusted FMIC from a known company. Less worries and better performance.

Good luck.

Hey man, DO NOT BUY INTERCOOLERS OFF OF EBAY!!!!! I bought a FMIC off of ebay for $400, worst thing i could have ever done. First off it took about 6 months to get all of the pieces, well all of the pieces that the guy would send me after all of the e-mails. I was able to install the intercooler system with a lot of modifications and hassels. well about 2 weeks after I installed the intercooler I was driving to work and running late as usual when at about 5500 RPM's my car just stalled out, I thought that i had messed the engine up bad, but after i coasted over 2 lanes of traffic with a dead car did i realize that one of the stupid couplings that the ebay seller had sent me basically shredded under the pressure. I had a lot more problems with couplings untill i just threw it in the garbage and bought an HKS FMIC from HKS's website. It is the best thing ever and best of all.... no modifications!! save your money and buy name brand. Hope this helps.:dsm:

dont buy turbos , intercoolers , bov , any cheap chinese made crap there please . maybe you will save some money at first but you will be so mad after ..... trust me man , when it comes to performance parts ebay is not the best place . i bought a big 16g turbo it lasted 1000miles :) you know you get what you pay for :) Good luck , i have greddy 18r intercooler :) Brand names will make your life easyer , not china made knockoffs :) Good luck in 2007

As everyone else has said, do NOT purchase an intercooler off of ebay. The phrase "you get what you pay for" applies to almost everything on there. I have not had experience with that particular intercooler but if you search ebay on this site alone i am sure that you will see more negative than positive ratings. Also if you are going for power, this probably wont hold up for long. I would suggest to save and get a good one.

There are actually very good quality FMIC's on ebay (despite common belief). But you should definitely be careful when choosing who to buy from. There are many clones of AMS cores that seem to be of great quality, and then there are many with fitment + other problems

Did you read this 57 page thread. Its about why you "SHOULD" buy an ebay intercooler. Just because you guys had bad experience doesnt mean everyone will. I bought the xspower kit for my 1g and its very nice. $200 shipped for the entire kit.

good call.. the main thing that I have heard that is wrong with the eBay intercoolers is their fitment, too many complaints about how people had to custom fit their eBay intercooler. But there are also some real nice ones. Like Jayrolla said, this thread is to show people that eBay intercoolers are very capable and can be used for any common DSM. I see alot of people interested in buying a front mount kit, and turn to eBay instead of the going with the $800-$1000 kits from Slowboy, Buschur, Dejon tool..... Just look at the sellers feedback, read some of their comments (preferably from someone who bought the same product you are going for) That should tell you if other are happy with their purchase.

If you dont want to do any custom work than you should be buying the name brand kits. Even some of those require modification. The xspower kits on the 1g's require almost no cutting at all do to the design

Please do not refer back to the "You get what you pay for" comment. Read the thread first then comment second, there are almost 60 pages of comments and the general consensis is that there are many ebay intercoolers that are great values. There are a lot of dsmers running good numbers with the "china knockoffs."

Wow ill have to step back in hear and say that i have the SSAC 1g kit too. Its pre bent pipes that fit almost perfect and have hardly any modification. Mine has help up great at 20 psi for a year now, i wont even go into the fact that im running an ebay turbo with 9,000 miles, i know im a lucky one, and most of these turbos are crap, but the intercoolers are tried and true just look at the last pages.

I have read numerous threads about the SSAC and other fmics from Ebay. I've been looking on ebay and found another kit, and was wondering if anyone had experience this kit.

Any pros/cons to that particular one?

Please ignore those negative comments on ebay FMIC kits after you question. Those people dont know what they are talking about. Now, the kit in the link that you provided is not a 'Kit'. It will not bolt on, you will have to get more piping and custom fabricate them to fit. You should probably just go with the SSAC kit, get there 1G kit if you have a 1G or there 2G kit if you have a 2G. There are alot of people that have made over 500awhp on this kit and it is well proven to be a great kit. It is a bolt on type deal and has everything you need (you have to make a hole in some sheetmetal, it is easy and you need 1 coupler and 2 clamps). I just got a kit in today.

For all the people that were worried they were not selling the kit anymore, I just got one in, it looks awsome! PM me if you need one.

Are those SSAC or XSPOWER kits flanged for a 1g bov on the 2g kit? I read through a bunch of the pages on here, but couldn't find it so I thought I would just post it in case maybe someone else was wondering. It looks like it is, but just want a confirmation.

Does anyone know if the group buy on these kits is still available?

i searched but came up with 1000million different topics
