Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

At first I did, but I used washers as spacers on the two side mounting tabs. I just added more until I got the depth I was looking for. Does that make any sense?

Yes perfect sense and I actually thought about that. I think I may just get the grinder out and do a little cutting... idk, I may not do a dang thing, but I don't want my LICP to losen up my Oil feed line to my turbo either...

Great idea on the spacers where the mounting tabs are. Instead of that, a lot of us in the early days of this kit just cut the lower ic pipe. Not doing so the pipe will touch the oil sensor light and while braking will make the dummy light flash. This was my problem. I ended up cutting the lower ic pipe to fix the problem. This was obviously a faster solution then reinstalling the entire thing.

If I could do it again spacers should be a cleaner install. I believe all the other pipes will line up better. The pipe that connects from the tb to the core definitely has a lot of slack available. With the core sitting flushed on the foglight mounting holes, the pipes are basically touching each other with the coupler holding them together. Adding spacers will give it some needed room apart which SHOULD line up the lower ic pipe a lot better.

I also have the ebay fmic on my '97 talon. I am very happy with the quality. I've owned a few greddy fmics and apexi on various cars and this one for 1/3 price you cannot beat the quality. To get the piping to fit I cut 3-4" off of the drivers piping from the intercooler itself (directly after the weld) putting the piping far away from the oil filter housing. My lower pipe connects to my fp3052 and i had to shorten that about 3". Fitment was great!

Yes, get a tiny open end wrench (closed rachet if you can find one) and tighten it little be little. My wrench kept getting stuck and then I'd have to loosin it to get the wrench off. I eventually got it nice and tight. No leaks!

Did you loop your power steering lines or tuck them behind the rad support yet?
Yes because the fmic sits in the front, the bumper cutout needs to be trimmed to fit the IC.

I haven't cut the driver side plastic piece where the LICP goes either yet. I'm still changing out the turbo right now.

Did you see this link to the tech install guide?

Yes, I put the power steering lines behine that bracket, drilled a hole and used a different bolt. I'm going to mount the intercooler tonight.

I just spent 5 hours reading this whole thread and I'm exhausted. I ordered the XS power kit.

I'm pretty new when it comes to doing my own work since I usually just pay shops to do it for me. Thus I am confused about the guys installing this kit on a T28. One person used a pipe from Dejon to move the outlet side back towards the driver. On Dejon's site I only see pipes as part of their kits, specifically a j-pipe for 16Gs, and c-pipe for T28. However, this is assuming you hack the T28. I don't want to do this. Therefore, wouldn't I need a U-pipe that turns 180* back the other way?

I think I'm in for quite a bit of work as I'll be installing this on an a/t 2Ga. I'm thinking about just mounting the fmic first so I can keep the stock smic operational and can still drive the car. Then do the piping separate when I know for sure I have what I need to connect it all.

And thanks for all the trial and error and articles...huge huge help.

when it comes to the ebay fmic i have to say that they work extremely well if you get them from a respected seller. just check out their feedback. i bought a 12-3-31 front mount and i received it four days later. the packing was good and after a leak down test at 30psi on my compreser it proved to be well built. the piping was good aswell but the clamps and couplers sucked ass. i blew a hole in two of them at 12psi. so i bought the pipe kit from " dave kit" seller and havent had any problems since. just sell your extra piping and make some of your money back. by the way my intercooler is a godspeed kit.
