Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

SBR has has some major issues lately with the cores leaking.. a friend of mine bought one and it leaked all over

I have been hearing alot of this lately myself:confused:

FINALLY!! I got the bi*** mounted. Now just have to secure it in.
To paint my pipes, do I need to sand them down first or just use some generic spray paint and paint over them?

For the best finish you should rough them up a little and then hit it with a good high temp primer follwed by a couple of light coats of high temp paint. Otherwise I could see it not lasting very long.

Ok, so I got my fmic on and now my car sounds like I got an external waste gate. Anybody have any opinions on why? It doesnt really sound like bov flutter either.

Guys, I totally forgot that I have this FMIC and I have a gt3561 turbo. I haven't yet installed either, but it's a down firing turbo, where is the best place to get the curved pipe?

I didn't need to bend my AT dipstick. What I did was unscrewed a bolt that did not let it from twisting. Now the Dipstick is close to the maf sensor. Ill show pics later today. Also I fitted the stock tranny cooler on the passenger side with no need of brackets

I'd really like to see some detailed pics of your dipstick. Where I have mine now makes it a PITA to check ATF levels

For my tranny dipstick I just put my long 3/8 inch drive extension in it and bent it towards the driver side of the car. It bent really easy and didn't kink. I just have to push the lower radiator hose out of the way a little bit to check the fluid.

Ive bought that front mount, I have it on right now. The only flaw is you need to either weld lips on the end of each pipe ( or when you boost the pipe will come out) or buy smaller tbolt clamps and clamp the shit out of the coupler and pipes.

Usually anything with "ebay" elicits "you get what you pay for" replies, but FMIC's are the one exception. There's a few threads about them, but from what I gather this is one of the rare cases where even cautious buyers feel that ebay quality is ok.

GSTdude06: looks like the ends are beaded. This isn't enough, still pops off?

There not beaded at all. They just look like it and the pipes are a universal kit, meaning you have to cut the pipes the make the route you need. With mine I had 3 pipes left over. The kit isnt a bolt on and go intercooler kit but a intercooler with pipes where you fab the route you want them to go.

some ebay ic's are decent most of them suck though...i wouldnt get it from ebay...id say order a nice one...you wont regret it...besides if that one starts sucking and is crap on you...think of the money ontop of that ## gonna be spending

It comes with a 3 year warrenty......

.....I have one and it works perfectly

theres a thread on here that talks about everyones ebay intercooler and how well they work.

Get the SSAC/XSPower one. Huge Bar and plate core, beaded SS pips, and short route! How can you beat that for less then $300 ? Also, remember to search before posting new threads, there are thousands(seems like) threads with almost identical titles to this one! C'mon, lets be self sufficient here.

Anyway, I give a thumbs up on my XSPower FMIC, Here is a pic if you are interested:

The injen knockoff intake/filter works well as well. I made a review/install on it, and once its approved it will be up in the tech section. Its about $50. The intake pipe is like the injen's, comes with filter, AND 2 filter adapters, so you will have an extra, and of course all the necessary hoses, EXCEPT you need to buy 4 new bolts, and for some people maybe a smaller coupler/clamps. Even if the extra parts need to be purchased it still won't be as much as the brand name version and IMO works just as well, more value definitely.

Also the HKS SSQV knockoff works well. I am running it, with all the mods in my profile. It has been boost tested by others, and I run 20-25 psi on it no problems.

The Greddy Type S has been a toss up, but a well known DSM vendor has them and rebadges them as their own (Dejon Tool) so it must be good right? :) Anyway there are threads on this and the hks knockoff, the thing prone to mess up is the rubber diaphram (type S) and purchasing a new one from greddy and replacing it, the bov will still cost significantly cheaper then the real one and functions correctly.

My friend bought a turboback exhaust for his 2g GS-T. I recommended he go for it, and saw it first hand once it was installed. It's great. It cost ~$350 SHIPPED to his door for a brand new turboback. It's 3" system and full stainless steel, apex n1 style muffler. Of course it has it's quirks, the end of the downpipe necks down to fit stock catback. And the beginning of the catback necks down to fit stock downpipe. So hey it all works, AND if you look at some of the brand name systems, EXP. Apex'i, greddy. They do the same, and not even stainless steel. And bringing it to an exhaust shop to flange them both for all 3" is not difficult nor expensive, and you will come out with a full 3" for maybe <$400-450.

And of course the almight fmic cores/kits from SS/XS autochrome. Someone asked how you can beat the $295 shipped for the 2g kit? It's been a few months and still can't be beat. I run it myself.

All the EBAY parts I purchased for my car and for my uncle's have been working great.

There are other things as well that work well, just have to do some research and no what your doing just in case.
