Aright so my car tends to get a bit hot when at idle but it’s probably a bit too hot when just cruising which is probably around 215. And with the fan on it’ll still creep up at idle, it’s a small pusher fan on a half radiator set up. I haven’t tried watering down the coolant or water wetter, going to try adding some ducts to help but 1g bumpers don’t have much room, going to try cutting out the fog light buckets and add direct the air that way, here are some pics and let me know what I can do differently, thanks

Add a lower air dam right under the radiator to direct air UP and into it.

I’ll try the air duct is there any pics any set ups with it? Also gonna try to add foam on the sides of the radiator also and see how long that holds. It’s just a pump gas car.

I need to mow my lawn so I can give you a picture, the shop is clogged up with our SBC swap. I normally have my dsm sitting in the bay for some reason :hmm:

Sweet i appreciate it

that looks super simple and good, I think I’ll try something similar appreciate the input

Mine is almost identical to what @TCB91GSX is running. :thumb:
Helps a lot. Scoops air up and right into the radiator

I think I’ll attempt it out of cardboard then get a real one made, any input on keeping it cooler at idle?

I love you setup. Is it possible to run a full rad? I run a chase bays radiator and was able to tuck it back further. Could you possibly fit a larger fan from spal? I tried water wetter and it does work and help. However at idle, the air duct wont do much. You need a way for heat to exit to. I already see the wrap on the turbo. Can you maybe put some heat wrap on the manifold? I know I had to take my wrap off and I saw 150 degree difference at the manifold.

One thing to point out, aluminum soaks up heat VERY WELL. Your engine compartment is crowded with a lot of heat producing tubes. I had to heat wrap the header and downpipe along with a turbo blanket to keep temps down. My Mitsumoto X was working but also soaking up ALL the heat my exhaust was radiating. I run 2 big Spal fans, one pusher and one puller. Wrapping all of my heat producing parts helped a bunch and will help idle temps.

A little off topic, but which headlights are those, and how do you like the brightness level, beam focus and driveability?
i ended up getting those off of amazon, i think the intended is for a semi and all i had to do was get a longer screw for the bottom, they arent bad they are very bright but do not have a cut off so you are gonn ahve to aim them down a bit but i can see great with them.
It would only work at speed not at idle. It scoops air into the radiator while driving.
i mean i get that, but if its getting hot idle i would also like to address that issue
That turbo setup really limits your cooling options at idle. What kind of fan do you have and does it have a shroud as well?
I dont know what fan it is but its not big at all, its maybe like 8 inches, its also not shrouded. Its a little cramped in there...

yea begining of this year i was driving around with my hood off and things were fine, hood on now and now she gets hot, i'll have to try and measure the space between the turbo to the hood latch which i think will interfere, i think if i were able to run a big puller fan i would be good but not enough room for it.

Yeah, 8 or 9 inches is way too small if it's the only fan.
Usually the "rule" for a full shroud is that a puller fan on the rear side of the rad should have a full shroud but a pusher on the front of the rad should just have a simple circular duct around it. Like this 12" pusher:

SPAL puts a good dimensioned drawing on their web pages, so you can get numbers for the thickness, diameter, and bolt pattern.
The one I linked to is 62mm thick over the motor and only 28mm thick over the blades/duct. Hopefully that isn't too thick to fit because you really need something like this in there. Even that probably won't be enough.
You pick "print data sheet" to get the dimensioned drawing. It's a pdf you save to your device.

It looks like there is a decent amount of room between the rad and bumper. I would definitely get one from spal. The tube headers are kind of a pain to wrap that's why I suggested a univeral blanket from dei. But a better fan and wrap I think you will see better improvement. My car does ok with out the wrap but I cant go from wot to idle without getting to hot. Seems like your issue isnt so much as cooling as it is getting rid of under hood temp. You could out heat tape on your hood or raise the rear of the hood with risers? This is my setup. Not much room either. I noticed my downpipe temp was 550 without wrap and 460ish with wrap. My headers stayed around the 480 with wrap and now without it its above 600 because that's what my gauge reads. Not much help but just giving my thoughts.

I would run a bigger puller fan if I had the room for it.
Would something like this be worth it?
Radiator I think it’ll be short enough to be tucked by the hood latch, have more volume, and if tucked enough possibly have 2 small fans

I have LEDs in a H4666 housing from Amazon. I had to saw off some round tabs on the back of all four of them with a hacksaw though. Other than that I had to unplug the headlight motor and manually tilt them down since they're so bright. OP might have found a better option that doesn't require hacking at it.

Out of the blue do you have any pics of the radiator installed with fans? aaaand would you happen to know how thickness with fans installed?

I can get you measurements tomorow of the fans. What else do you need measured? In the pics you can kind of see what I'm working with. Any more specific pics?

Oh man that engine bay look clean!! maybe a pic over the engine to see how far it comes into the bay, how did you mount it? did you have to ditch the hood latch? i only have about 5 inch between the intercooler and lower intercooler pipe/wastegate, my coolant is full, I just want a nice permanent fix so i dont have to worry about it in traffic

I'll get you another pic. Over top I have wastegate lines. Its definitely cluttered. I forgot to measure. I'll get that for you tomorow. I didnt HAVE to removed the hood latch, however it allowed another 3/4 inch. The factor hood latch bracket is riveted on. The latch wasnt the issue the bracket the latch bolts to was. That bar that connects to the top bumper support to the bottom support, I made my own because it was to thick. It doesn't provide any structure except for the bumper cover. This is all on a 2g. Thought 1gs had room? I'll get some better pics and measurements from the lower pipe to the intercooler.

I'm currently thinking about going with electric water pump. If I were to cruise around then beat the crap out of the car and then park it, my car cant bring down the temps. My setup for daily driving does not overheat. Only in the scenario I said.

I feel like I missed something. Let me know if there is other things I didnt awncer.
