Well ive decided to go with a stock 6bolt for now and put the 2.4 on the back burner so i saw the "rebuilt" 6bolt on karking.com and it seems to be a pretty good price of 1,150.

What do you guys think is there anywere cheaper or better and does anyone have any info on this karking?

thanx :thumb:

I bought one of the diff's that karking just released. I believe i talked to George, anyways he was a hell of a nice guy. The diff was an awesome piece, and i'd recommend them. They shipped the diff from Cali to Maryland in 3 days :thumb:

im thinking about buying a motor from them also. some guy PMed me saying that they offer good engines at quality prices BUT...make sure they have a place for the knock sensor cuz they sometimes use non tubo blocks. i am unaware if this is true or not...or if non turbo 4g63 have knock sensors or not but HE said to ask for them so i will when i order my engine.

hey sry about thaty, I think there working on there website. heres there #
toll free- 1866-364-4630
other #518-638-5570 ps. ask about there crankwalk fix and what they do to there motors there like new.

(In regards to Kar King)
Make sure you ask for a remanufactured engine, and not a refurbished. Prior owner got a refurbished from them, and never checked for leaks... by the time I got my hands on it, it was dripping from five or six places. Took it back, and instead of fixing the gaskets, they slapped on silicone sealant here and there. Which DOES fix the leak, but is kinda annoying that they didn't do it right, and wouldn't re-do it properly. Plus I'm pretty sure they munged up the CAS, as it's leaking through the housing. (Not the seal to the valve cover, the actual CAS housing)
Not to mention that they stripped an oil pan bolt, and had to helicoil it. And it STILL looks like the pan is leaking. :b

But yeah, George is a great guy to chat with. Has an Eclipse for his son that he was showing me pictures of. :)

Just check the engine for leaks every day.. might have been a one-off in my case, but if it happened once, it could happen again. They were responsive and took responsibility, but did kinda a shoddy job in 'fixing' it, IMO. I'll have more info once I get a compression test run, since it's in the shop anyway.

Ive talked to George a few times. They seem to know their stuff. Im going to be getting a 2.4L hybrid from them in 2 months so Ill let you know how it goes. For the price, they really cant be beat. The 2.4L is going ot cost around $2300 for engine+install with a 1G head which is good considering the shortblock is new. I need to supply the 1G intake manifold and TB but thats not a big deal. He even offered to install aftermarket pistons if I supplied them for the same price but with no warranty (understandable). I passed because they cant intsall aftermarket rods due to the machining involved so for now Im going with stock internals. At stock boost it should be fine and the 6 month warranty will give me time to break in the setup before I place an order with Magnus. :thumb:

My god please use the search function. /\

So has anyone ahd any luck yet? Also do the motors actually look like the pics or is that just a model, cause dam-n that looks nice. Also any info on the stroker motors yet from them. I see they offer a rebuilt 2.4 conversion for a 95-99, I have a 95 but I have a six bolt ni there now and I am wondering if I would be going backwards then and have to rewire for a 7 bolt again, even though it is not a 7 bolt crank obviously.

i did search but no answer to it.

a dsm'er friend of mine got one from overbore.com, and yeah the price is worth it, 3 year warrenty on the motor.. You cant beat that, I'll have to get ahold of him and ask what it covers, but if my 7bolt goes thats what i'll be getting..

I just chatted with George Martin today. Seemed like a good guy, not a very accurate typer but he gave me a bit of good info. He assures me that the Rock pistons are every bit as good as stock and another source told me that they could even be a little better than stock. George also informed me that his engines are built to stock specs but that he does remove the balance shafts. The rebuilds also include a new oil pump, water pump, timing bearings, timming belt, and tensioner. I am figuring on ordering this engine soon...maybe in the next week or so. Once I break it in I will upgrade the headgasket. It took me a little bit to get any info from them but once I did he was very informative and had good prices on shipping and what not... a rather pleasing experience I must say.

Holy crap this is a nice price. For this price it is even worth dealing with the oil leaks as long as the compression is good and the bearings hold up. Anyone know how much shipping would be to ship to maryland? Yikes...

On their webstie they have online service so you can chat, he quoted me the price shipped to my door...it was rather good actually.

He also said that he only does standard piston size, so there is no boring done on the block. It was my understanding that it is worth the money to have a block bored for reliability. Is this true or is it not such a big deal on a stock rebuild?

Minor update, they also kept my engine hoist mount bracket, which is why the CAS is flopping around. George said that they didn't have it, that they just reuse the one on the engine they get... but the old one DID have one. He said that they don't have any in stock, even used. And if it didn't they should have at LEAST noticed that the nut wouldn't cinch down, rather than apparently torquing it onto the non-threaded section of the stud, leaving 1/4" to 1/2" of play.

Haven't driven it since finding out, as I can't get the damn nut off to put washers (and a lockwasher) under it as shims, and it's a terribly, terribly bad thing to have one of your camshafts vibrating around like that due to a loose endpoint.
The oil leak is now secondary in my mind... and the silicone sealant is just an extra kick in the testicles.

:notgood:

If you're going to buy from them, know EXACTLY what you need, specify, and double-check it afterward. George is a good guy, so it's quite possible that he just has a mechanic or two (or three, or four) that aren't paying as much attention to your car, as they should be.

so there is a oil leak on the karking motor?

Also i was thinking about ordering the motor from there because i just want to start from the bottom and rebuilt most of the things. So i was thinking about getting 6bolt so let's just say i do order from karking what should i watch out for? or what should i say to George when i order?

"Holy crap this is a nice price. For this price it is even worth dealing with the oil leaks as long as the compression is good and the bearings hold up."

Screw that! I'd easily pay $1000 more just for no oil leaks. Oil leaks suck bad, even on a used motor or tranny. Even if it;s not that much, it still sucks IMHO.

I would never want to pay someone $1500 or more for a leaking 4g63t.

And the guy that is saying to order from overbore.com, you kinda silly, too. You buying a 7Bolt engine? NEVER buy a 7 bolt! Only excepption is maybe a used motor real cheap or something. But as far as rebuilds, remans or new, or frigin JDM, ALWAYS go 6 bolt! It's not worth the risk getting a 7 bolt: Weaker piston rods! Crankwalk risk as well.

This is just sage advice that searching and reading you will have learned real quick.

Search terms such as: engine rebuild, etc..

So who else has purchased from either of these vendors? People be careful who you buy from. Leaking engines? Rebuilt 7 bolts? LOL

i was going to order the engine from karking but i dont know anymore if there is a oil leak...
