evos are nice but i like the low profile of our cars and when properly done they look really really good.

plus im ###### as fast as a stock evo now, why would i want to get a car that requires more money for more expensive parts because they are newer on the market, not trying to be mean but id rather stay with a dsm. Same engine too, just some quirks they fixed

### i have you ever seen how many gsr's are selling modded for so cheap on evom. You can pick up a 400-500hp evo for sub 20k. Jus sayin.... Not trying to force you or anything. Just wanted to let you know.

Dang dude you marry Carrie Underwood! Save it guy you'll be happier in the long run. Reason for me saying this.
I had a red 94 honda civic ex. Spent two years modding it and it was while I just had my first boy. I spent all that freaking money and time on my car and less on my family. People can say stuff on here about civics for all I care but I had the cleanest non rice civic in town attention everywhere. One of the fastest single cam vtec... not turbo not dohc. And what happen, I sold it. All that time and money that I'll never get back for my son. I regret it till this day and I learned my lesson so I won't wreak havoc on my dsm.
Son, with that money spend it on a vacation with grandpa and family. Something that can never be sold or regret. I'm saying this from experience and the heart!

haha nice carry underwood comment i think she looks like kelly pickler myself! Anyway ya i understand where you guys are coming from, this is my toy though, im not looking to waste all of the money, just putting it in, its either now with this money or as i get it from jobs and what not.

Take half of that money and put it in the bank. Going to be giving it to the EX when shift hits the fan.

Actually, if there is a lot of money involved, talk to a lawyer/accountant and see about setting up a Corp/Trust Fund. That way, when the time comes, the government can't get ahold of all that money because of inheritence tax.

Not trying to be a prick but he isn't asking for your opinion or advice on what to invest his money on. He is obviously set on spending a fair amount of it on his DSM.
And for everyone telling him not to waste that much money on a car I have just one question for you...Why not? As long as he is financially secure why shouldn't he spend the money on something that he obviously enjoys. If doing something that makes you happy regardless of the money is a waste, then I suppose I'll lead a very wasteful life as well

I'm not going to sit here and tell you to save all the money like some others. If it were me, I would do the exact same thing as you. Of course putting all that money into a car would not be the most intelligent thing to do for most people, but I don't see anything wrong with splurging a little bit. Spending 6 or 7 grand to make your car what you want it to seems far more wise then just buying an Evo or something. I've seen a couple people that I went to high school with piss away large amounts of inherited money on brand new cars so I would consider this a smarter alternative to that. As you said, you're going to spend the money in the end anyway if you have the desire to mod your car so why not do it all at once? As far as I'm concerned, as long as you save at least 60% or you're good. I couldn't imagine not spending any of it up front.

Anyway, you probably shouldn't have mentioned how you got the money if you wanted replies based on your set-up, but I'll answer that too. It looks pretty solid, but as someone said earlier, you are probably going to want bigger injectors with e85 even if you don't want to max out the HX-35. My only other suggestion would be to look into some better brakes. That's just what I would do since you are already addressing the engine and suspension. Some Evo Brembos would be nice and cost effective.

Some 50 years ago my friends dad bought a cadillac instead of going to college. He was one of the happiest well adjusted adults i ever met. He owned a nice house on the lake and raised three great kids. He didnt regret his decision to not go to college. He laughed about it. He made his own business decisions and did well for himself.

My sister spent 6 years of her life and some 90k spent on her landscape architect degree. 30 years later she has yet to make a dollar with that degree. she is a housewife with two great kids.

I have more money in my three turbo cars than i do in my paid off house. I did not go to college. I have the easiest life of anyone I have ever met for someone who had nothing given to him. I learned early that i would not be happy working a 40hr job making someone else money. I have worked about 25 hours a week for most my life. I am 48 and happy with my three cars and my three kids and my awesome wife who lets me do what I want.

Life is short. It doesnt matter if you die with 100k debt or 100k in the bank. live life like you want to.

I didnt see you ask for advice on whether or not you should spend your inheritance on your car or not. So i thought it strange you got so many telling you you should save the money and not blow it on your car. So that was my response to that.

My advice for you question is . i think you have a nice setup for car planned. My advice would be dont get in a hurry and buy everything new. I would by the loins share of those parts used. look for good deals. Then when you are done playing with car you loose very little when you part the car out. Used performance parts generally hold value quite well.

If you would have taken half of that $5k and invested it, you could have doubled it already. Heck more than that. If you would have bought some BP stock at $26 the other day, its at $37 right now!

Then you could have built the motor too!!

Either way, that list is sound. I would change the megan coilovers for a good koni setup, but otherwise, looks great.

The government can not touch the money unless you already owe the government money. For 2010 the gift exclusion was $13,000 per person. Personally you have a $1 million lifetime exclusion on gifts. Which mean it is excluded from Federal Taxes. Or if it is given under an estate, there is a $3.5 million exclusion.

My guess, is he has more than $3.5 million in assets, so he is using up his personal gift exclusion to reduce the amount in the estate. The gift taxes and estate taxes are around 45% I think.

I saw this also, wish I had the money to invest right now. I think bp actually dropped lower than that at one point. Then a company sprang interest in buying all there oil rigs so the price jumped.

I would add a "Thank you card" to that list of stuff to buy.

ROFL

my grandparents live like schmucks, they never by anything new or excessive, they have had the same furniture since the 70s and had it reupholstered once. My grandma had stocks in major companies such as haliburton, enron exxon, bp and others. When she died they had to cash in on all of those and it went to my grandpa. He had no clue about the money and doesnt care about it now. He is just wanting to help us all out. He isnt spending any of it. Its all set up to be given out to his 3 daughters and grandsons. Tell 3 months ago i thought they were pore as heck cause they lived that kind of lifestyle.

You sound like the schmuck. This is why they have money, because they didn't buy crap they don't need and invested it. In times like these I don't buy things I don't need. That is free money, stow it away. Let things that you show off with be stuff you paid for with money you earned, otherwise you look like a tool, and I'm sure your grandpa would want you to stow the money away to save.

i live in the state of oregon where there is an inheritant tax on any amount over 1 million dollars, as of january 1st there is an federal estate tax for amounts over 1 million dollars taxed at 55 percent, we are in constant contact with th lawyer trying to keep this money out of the governments hands

now about the setup, what size injectors do you guys recommend if wanting to go with e85 and the hx35, also why should i not go with the coilovers? 32 levels of adjustability, lowering control and pre load adjustments sound like a good option to me. I will be buying most of the parts used, i just put up numbers for what everything would run me new. I do want a new exhaust because i got burnt on my last one and it didnt last, the fmic i will ###### go used, same with the turbo, and injectors. In the future i do have a brake upgrade in my plans but for now im gonna just throw some very good pads on there

The general rule would be to select the ideal size to use with gasoline and then multiply that by 1.47.

ok so my 950s would flow like 650's with my evo 3 16g on e85, except with the benefits of leaner afr's and more timing correct? I might tune for this for awhile before i upgrade to the hx35. I have e85 a mile away from my house and up and down the state everywhere

This thread is stupid, I know handfuls of people personally who over the course of a few years have blown upwards of 40k into cars that will sell for 5k. Seriously most of you have spent well over 10k into your DSM. Just because he is doing it in a lump sum everyone is acting like its an awful idea.

If you can afford a house a 6k down payment is what a month of work? I see no problem in spending 6k on something you plan on keeping and using and enjoying for a long time.

I won't tell you not to spend the money, because you're going to, and honestly, I would too. But instead of modding up a 2g, why not just take say $6k and buy a built 1g to have as a fast car, and leave the 2g as a daily (maybe buy some rims for it)? Less time spent, more fun to be had.

im not the biggest fan of how the 1g's look and also id have a higher monthly insurance cost for having 2 cars, im still in college right now so i dont need to have 2 cars. When im done with college im going into the military and will only need 1 car. My fiance gets any car of her choice when she graduates and is planning on getting a brand new off the lot range rover sport so that will be our backup car and family car at that point.

Honestly, I would put that money aside. Wait for the rest of it to come in and use it for life as a "cushion."

Nothing like having money to always fall back on. That way, when you spend all the money and have nothing but a still broke down car in the driveway you arent kicking yourself. :/

well after all of that being said you are in a damn good position compared to others including myself..

Also your not going to have enough left in that fuel pump to run the hx35 on e85.

other than that everything else looks ok..
