what did you use for a sub-frame/brace up front , between the two lower control arms ? and what are the power steering rack options?

Common this is forever and a day ago! More Updates! This is an amazing project. I just wanted to ask, What are the advantages of RWD vs AWD For any application besides drifting? I'm actually picking up a Doner 91 AWD Car to do a stock Evo 3 setup in (we all know the Evo 3 setup can produce some damn good power) and lock the center diff and turn it into a drifter. Like a cheap 600 dollor project car ya know... But other then that, I don't see any advantages a RWD Setup can give over AWD. Except a stronger rear end, but your still eliminating the front so it doesn't matter. Shep is using a 4rd 9" Rear End on an AWD Setup. I can see how that helps. Just dunno about RWD Unless in a drifter.

RWD will launch better when you're at the point of spinning the tires of awd. You can't really heat slicks up in the burn out box with AWD.

It is also easier to work on a RWD car compared to AWD.

This looks interesting. What came to mind for me was 3rd gen RX7 with 6 bolt/ 30R :)

Jake fell of the face of the earth a few years ago.

Sorry for this...

It has been a rough couple years. I will spare everyone the detail, but you can hit me up if you would like. Any ways!! I am working on getting everything back underway. The car will be under the knife this fall and the manifolds are going to be taking off strong with many new designs, makes & models, and I am going to be working to keep lots of everything in stock.

Thanks for all of you who still have interest in the project. Hopefully this show will be back on the road soon.

Looks like a sweet build. One question though. Are the mounting points for the four link going to be strong enough single shear? I would fab some " helper" brackets to go on the bottom side, under the crossmember, To at least make it double shear. Might save you some trouble down the road.

Everything is currently in double shear, I am not sure if this is not shown well enough in the pictures. I will try and take a better one which shows it a little better. :D

Under the bent tubing mount towards the front of the car, I will still be able to use the factory reinforcement bracket to add strength to the front sub-frame bolts... Just like the OE design for the original sub-frame. Although, I was thinking those things are way heavier then I want. I might make my own because of this.:thumb:

Hey guys I just fell into this thread and I'm not leavin haha Jake you seem like one hell of a fab tech I'm gonna start the same idea with my car it looks amazing keep us posted.:thumb:

In the process if turning my gs spydef inti rwd. Its pretty cool to see things documented. My biggest concern is not so much the rear since I plan on buying a 4 link kit. However the front end is scary. I cant do a tubular front end. Anybody have idea's? Pinto manual rack woulld be nice just not sure on that. I also used a th350.

Really not a huge fan of them to be honest. This will be a weekend joy rider not so much a full out track car. I was really consider a tubular k member with a pinto manual rack and pinion. Would have to sit down and map it out though. Has anybody got away with just nodding their steering rack ? Seems like the only setups I find are tubular front ends.

On a side note. Would the bushier racing rwd stuff work with a 4g64? I was told it would not. However the blocks share the same mounting points, trans, etc.

thats a pretty little setup! I would stay away from a full tubular front end.Tubular front subframe though really wont be bad to fab up. Need to get the motor and trans in just to see what needs to be relocated. Has anybody with a rwd dsm daily driven the car with a tub front sub frame? Never really seen one in a dd. Do you know where the issue lies with the front subframe? Without the car in front of me i just cant picture the engine bay. Anyways i will wait to see if the op has any idea's or tips in regard to the front subframe if you nobody else does.

With how u got it set up can u run a 10.5 slick I ask because I would love to do this and could get a ton of 10.5 for free or is there a way this could be modified some top tub the back to run a slick thatd a sick set up by the way
