Hello Everyone,

I am in the midst of refreshing my short block and building my head with the engine out of my Spyder GST. I am starting to get toward the end of the process.

I just found these scratches on the wall of cylinder #4. I am looking for opinions as to whether these are an issue or not. I realize they are not ideal no matter how you look at it.

The worst of the few pictured doesn't "catch" a fingernail, but I can feel it a little when I pass my nail over it. Also, I can "hear" it too.

I have added a video where you can "hear" my fingernail passing over the worst of the scratches.

I would like to avoid honing these cylinders if possible. I would say these scratches are probably as minor as they could be while still causing me to question them.

Opinions please, am I worrying about nothing or is this a major no-go?

Thank you

Rings get deburred on the ends??? But yeah, as stated, keep on going, you should be OK.

Thanks for the replies/opinions. That’s the direction I was leaning, too.

I haven’t ever removed the pistons/altered the rings since I purchased the car and there has definitely been nothing else to suggest anyone else has since it left the factory in 95/96.

I’m thinking this happened as a side effect of me cleaning the tops of the pistons/cleaning the deck/replacing the freeze plugs and blowing out the block. Some debris must have gotten in the cylinder and scored the cylinder walls when I turned the motor over. I tried to keep that from happening, but I’ve had the motor open longer than I initially intended due to my life’s other obligations.

Thank you guys for the opinions I asked for. I’m going to keep going with this build.
