I bought a set of cams of a forum member. I just noticed some damage to the intake cam.

Yeah this is the straw that broke the camels back. I'm selling all of my dsm stuff and getting out the car game. 3rd time I've been burnt in 4 months. I'm done with shady folks. I have a fresh 2.4 race motor if anyone is interested.

The cam seal just rides on there, as long as the seal isn't contacting any of the damage, you should be fine.

You could always have them Checked out bro. The little pit on the lobe can probably be removed with some emery clothe or steel wool. I had some on my hks 264's and had my friend throw them on his lathe and with just some emery got them smooth again. As long as the seal isn't effected and nothing hits you should be fine. I would file them flat if possible. And bro tell me about it, guys on here don't seem to care anymore. My last few deals on here have been horrible. Guy sells me some Pistons and Rods says there perfect, just pulled from his friends car for upgrade. Ya more like just pulled cuz he lost compression in one cylinder. I start cleaning them up for the new rings and what do I see. 1 piston cracked all the way across the top and thru, was so pissed. Guy tells me that's what you get when you buy used parts. And you still have 3 Pistons! Uh hello what the hell am I supposed to do with 3 and why would I want to pay for someone's crap. Sorry guys not a good day for me and again sick of getting ripped on here. If your not a real Dsmtuner get out!!! haha just remember the carma

That looks like it was built up with weld and ground back down to refinish the seal area, doesnt look like a big deal to me, the pit is no problem at all.

I'll take better pictures. The back side of the cam is really bad. I didn't want my wife see what I was doing because she is already about to divorce me over my car. Alot of material was takin off the back side of the cam and I don't want to take a chance putting this cam I'm my brandnew aluminum rod, butchered crank 4g64 motor. The user sold these "like new". There are holes so big on the back side I can stick a tooth pick in.

He insisted on meeting me locally. If I have to I'll take him to small claims court on principal. When I met him I was in a rush and the cams were oiled and wrapped in plastic so I just inspected them through the plastic. It just really burns me up because I would NEVER knowingly rip someone off. I've sold parts on the forum and the buyer wasn't satisfied and I've refunded the money and usually just let them keep the part (if it wasn't super valuable). I think the worst part was I told this guy how I recently got super burnt on a 2g I recently bought and he sold me some jacked up cams. There are some very good awsome people on this forum but there is also a fair share of shady crooks. It's sad to say but I am going to start to part my car out today. I've spent so much money I could have bought an evo by now.

The pitting in that area is not bad and the cam should be fine but here is where the caution comes in, pitting happens when the metal the cam is made of during the billet process gets contaminated which means that whole cams shaft could be contaminated and therefore could start pitting over time. I have one in the shop I will post picture later that started pitting on several lobes over time it had to be discarded. Remember this the loose pitted material floats around in the engine somewhere and could be detrimental.

I'm more worried about all the material that has been removed. There are jagged edges on it. Of couse the seller won't answer any calls or txt. I shouldn't have bought a used part to put into a brand new motor.

Looks like that front seal area has been welded and ground back, just was not dressed out well.

As long as it measures out in spec, and the lip of the seal does not run on the pit

All should be just fine.

Well the seller just got back to me. He said that he bought the cams used. When he installed them they had side to side play. So
sent them to delta to be checked out. He , he paid delta to have them fixed. He said he ended up buying another set of cams while delta fixed these. He said I can either send them back to delta or get a refund. I opted for the refund. The. He said he has to "figure some stuff out'

Seems that those cams have been problematic for a while but why? My guess contamination of original billet during casting. You can continue to patch via welding ect they will continue to develop issues.

Yeah I will never buy another used cam. I'm either going to buy a set of brand new billet s2's or some kelfords when he gives my money back. I am supposed to meet him tomorrow.

I will either be running e85 or 93 plus 50/50 water/meth. Haven't really decided yet. E85 is just hard to come by in MD but I was just thinking about getting 4 55 gallon drums dropped off.

Honestly I personally would never go with a Kelford cam, I just have a hard time justifying spending all that money on a cam when the manufacturer isn't advertising duration properly (at the correct lift spec etc) when every other company does. I would have bought gsc s2 cams for my car had I not found a set of fp4r cams. Then again, I am also running a 2.0 6 bolt engine whereas you might be more inclined to grab a 280 duration cam (which honestly is not a bad idea at all if you actually have a 2.4l G4CS block/crank).

Sucks to get burned, I've bought a few things from members here and has been ok. If you meet in person I would have looked at them before accepting money. Paypal is nice if you do purchase not gift so it is protected.

Good luck and dont give up! It is a " game" after all and all games can be expensive, especially cars.

I did check them. But I was more focused on the lobes then the ends. Plus they were wrapped. I'm done with buying used parts like cams. Something that important I'll just buy new.

Luckily I had to paypal some of the money to him. That gave me his full name. He told me the area he lived in. I had a friend look him up and I got his address, so if he doesn't come through with the refund I'll just stop by and get my refund

Oh now there are a couple schools of thought when it comes to buying cams, one is to size the cam to the turbo, and the other is to size the cam to where you want your power to be at (or also size it to your motor in essence). At this point it depends on how much power you want to make, but since you already have alum rods it's looking pretty much full racecar haha. S3's might not be a bad choice at all Even though they were designed with 67mm+ inducer sized turbos in mind but you have a 2.4l rather than a 2.0. If your really trying to squeeze all you can out of your turbo and make big numbers than it's certainly a viable option.
My only concern would be valve clearance on aluminum rods with high lift cams. Aluminum rods stretch more when heated up compared to steel alloys so be sure to factor that in or check clearance when you build that beast up.
