I recently have gotten a 91 eagle talon tsi fwd.
The person I got it from told me it had 650cc injectors, it had brian crower cams, 272 exhaust and 264 intake, it had eagle rods, and wisco pistons(stock bore), 16g turbo, Manual steering rack, walbro 255 fuel pump, H beam, springs and retainers, etc..
The car needs a tune.
But that's all it needed according to him.
But I realized, it has no manual steering rack, the power steering rack is just looped back into it self, it has 450cc stock injectors, and the tranny's synchro is going out.
I knew the synchro was going, but he tried telling me it was the short throw shifter put in, but all the others I didn't know.
How do I find out If my car really is cammed, or has hardened internals??
This dude is full of some Bull Sh*t.
:[
Thanks a lot!

why did you buy it without actually making sure he was telling the truth?
you couldve checked the injectors before you bought it.:nono:
anyway,

only actual way to check if it has pistons and rods, is to tare it apart and see whats all in there..
or if you take your oilpan off, you can kinda see the rods. i have eagle h beams and when i changed oilpan gasket, i seen my eagle rods as i looked up closely..
and on the cams, take your vc off and look on the cams itself and should have prints or numbers on them and the numbers usually tell you what cams they are..
good luck

How did you find out you had 450's? Did you pull them?

What turbo is actually on it? Can you give us a description/numbers on the housing? I'm not sure if cams are labelled crower or not. Does it idle like it's cammed?

If you check under the shift boot/take a picture of the console we can tell you if there is a STS.

There is a way to check if they are still stock pistons at least. It has worked for me before. Take out the spark plugs and shine a flashlight down there. If they are stock you will see part of the numbers on the pistons. (63 DT I do believe) You can see them if you look hard enough. Kinda tricky, but you will see them.

Good info

Hope you didn't get duped man but the only way your gonna know for sure what you got is to start tearing stuff apart and running and checking serial number.

Cams will usually have an slightly agressive or slightly lumpy idle rather than a completly smoothe idle like a factory cam. If you have stock injectors then you would not be able to actually realize much benifit from aftermarket cams. I hpe that you were not taken by the seller.

Thanks to all! I found It's semi built. Cams, pistons, rods, stainless valves and retainers. Now it has 650cc injectors. As well!

Yea id be carefull with the new injectors and 16g (if your car has one because this guy was bs'ing so much), it may not be tuned and that can be really dangerous. I would recommend getting a tune or at least a wideband to check your a/f ratio. Good luck and congrats on the new car though

I need help!
My Talon Tsi will not start!
The compression is fine, it is getting fuel, The battery is brand new, But I won't start!
It will crank, but will not start!
Seems like no spark, but I cleaned the cylinders, got new plugs, checked all of my fuses, my temp. sensors, Got a New Ecu, and Still will not start!
I don't know what the problem is!!
I do have 2 wires unhooked from the alternator, and I don't know where they go.
Maybe it was a simple fix, But I need help!!
Thanks,
Andy

The Ecu is recapped. And it is socketed, but it has no chip in it. I have an extra chip. But will that do anything to starting and running without a chip?? And also, could it be my coolant/temp sensors?

I only asked for the obvious ECU issues we have. Do you have any kind of data logging capabilities?

My timing is right. I have a socketed Ecu with no chip in it. How do you test the coils? Because I don't have wires. It's all individual coil packs. And also I don't know about Ecu's enough to data log, I don't think I can. But I'm going to buy a new coolant sensor to see if that works.

Could my CAS be bad??
I have read a few posts of people how fix their no startng issues with new a CAS,
Or could it be my coolant sensor?
Im replacing the Coolant/temp sensor tomorrow, but If that doesn't fix it I will be back on here.
Joy...
btw, Thanks to everyone helping, Givin me hope!!
:D

Your CAS could be bad, that ended up being my problem in my old DSM when it would just crank and crank but not start, picked one up used and it was all good. Worth a shot if you can find one for cheap.

Have you ever had it actually running since you bought it? Maybe I'm misreading something but if yours is socketed but has the chip removed wouldn't that basically remove all the coding from the ecu and basically make it so its a blank ecu? Just a thought, sorry if I'm wrong.

Well, it's a new ecu I picked up because I thought it was just that.
And I'll post a pic of the ecu soon.
So I have not had the car running wityh this ecu.
I can't now, class.

But I have had it running with a Diff. ecu.
It ran until I just posted this thread.
And I had the car for like 3 weeeks prior to this.

Just a thought.... Maybe.... You said you installed 650's and I don't see anywhere in this thread or your profile that you have anything to compensate for larger injectors (MAFT or custom eprom)... Just saying.

well then first i'd get an ecu that has the chip installed(unless its a non-eprom board) then try and start it with that or else get the eprom chip for that board(most likely a custom job i'm not familiar with a board that was stock with removable ones)
