Probably a foolish question I think I know the answer but want to be sure. If I put an aftermarket throttle body like a s90 then I won’t be utilizing the idle position switch (MD614216) anymore correct? Like there’s not a place for it to go?
What happens to that control parameter with the ecu? Planning on ecmlink v3. Thanks.

I think there are a couple of ways.

- Simulate from throttle position in ECMLink.
- Use a TPS that comes with idle position/closed switch.
- Wire a limit switch or so at throttle body or gas pedal as make it grounded when the throttle is closed.

Thanks for the info. Let me ask this another way. The only reason I would have to buy a new OEM switch would be if I was going to run an OEM TB? I was going to buy a new switch but plan to install aftermarket TB…

Yes or in case like you mentioned that if you would modify the aftermarket throttle body to mount the OEM switch. The switch itself is a simple switch, so the switch doesn't really need to be the OEM switch if you can install it.

You can throw a micro switch on the throttle body to replicate the closed throttle position. Easy to use, just make a bracket.

We use these for backup lights, gear indicators etc....anything that doesn't need a lot of current.
Just an idea and something I would probably do if I didn't just use a TPS with the built in switch. ECMLINK will just let you simulate, so there are different ways to get it done.

Marty you’re giving me more credit than I deserve yet. :idontknow:But either way if going with an aftermarket tb I would have no need to buy a new OEM switch then? Sorry for being slow I was going to buy one from Amayama but won’t now if it’s not going to be useful.
If I use a tps with a built in switch do I have to wire it differently from the original harness?

Just use your OEM TPS, and simulate the TPS with Link. My OEM switch wouldn't work at all no matter what I did, so I just clicked that box and now it works beautifully. No extra wiring or modification necessary.

Thanks I have no idea how link works or what it can do yet. Never seen it in person even. One day…I’ll save the 120 bucks then.

Suuuper easy.

Connect to ecu
hit ecu config(live)
Navigate to Misc tab
Check the box that says “enable idle switch simulation from TPS”.

Done. :)
