i have found a 92 mitsu eclipse gsx, its an auto:notgood: but the guy said he will take 800 for it.

know for all the bad:
it has no compression and i expected the valves are bent.

Now how can i tell if it is a 6 bolt?, without ripping appart the car.

how can i tell if it has a 4 bolt rear?

is this worth it or should i just look for something else?:beatentodeath:

does 92 have the big brakes in the front?

How hard is a manuel tranny swap in an awd? is there anything i am going to run into?

also what head is better, isnt a 7 bolt head better? can you put a 6 bolt head on a 7 bolt block and vise versa?
 
Check out vfaq.com. They have a section on determining whether a 92 is a six or seven bolt. If I remember correctly, the oil pan will slightly buldge out on the timing belt side if it is a six bolt. The 4bolt/3bolt is pretty easy to check. Take a look a the rear tires, where the axles attach to the hub. If there are 4 bolts attaching it, you have a 4bolt; and if there are 3 bolts attaching it, well you get the idea.

All 92s should have the small 1 piston brakes. Most 92s I've seen have the 4 bolt rear and a 6 bolt motor, but it's best to check for sure. Hope this helps.
 
Oh, and there are agruements both ways as to whether a 1g head is better or a 2g head is better. Bassically you will have better velocity at the intake ports with a 2g head and a larger entrance with a 1g head. It has been argued that at very high power levels, the 1g head will flow better. At moderate boost and vaccuum, the 2g head will flow better. It isn't determined on six/seven bolts on 1gs. All 1gs 90-94 will have the same head except for the outer exhaust manifold studs at the lower corners.

1g 6 bolt and 7 bolt heads are identical except for the differences between the head bolt diameter and the corresponding hole in head for the head bolt. The 6 bolts use 12mm bolts while the 7 bolts use 11mm bolts from what I remember. Therefore, you'd have to drill the hole larger on the head that came off a 93 or 94 to fit the 12mm bolts used on the 6 bolt motors.

There are huge differences in intake port size/shape between the 1g and 2g heads.
 
By the way, there are some pretty fast autos out there. You may want to look into their setups before you swap a MT in there. Especially with all the problems manuals tend to have as you start increasing the power.

Yeah it probably would stay an auto for atleast a little while because I need a dd for the winter, and snow and 5 speed realy dont mix even with AWD
 
If your not real familer with thes cars the oil pan and brake method of checking might not be the best way.
Easieast way is to check the manufactured date.
Before the third week of april its a 6bolt. After that 7bolt.
 
yeah there is an easier one if the oil pan flange is flat against the block its a 6, also if the t belt side of the oil pan is bubbled out it is a 6 bolt, i just read it on faq.com thanks though
