I was just doing a little research. I was told that i should go w/ 2g pistons? The compression ratio for 2g is 8.5.1. And the 1g is 7.8.1 I thought that the lower the compression the better? Is this not true?

The lower compression simply means you can run higher boost levels safer than higher compression pistons. But the higher compression pistons slightly kick in faster and better engine response. There's always a trade-off to both. I kept it simple for you.

The 2g pistons are considered to be better than the 1g pistons. My personal opinion would be that if you're gonna be ripping apart the block and changing rods/pistons just keep the stock 1g rods and if it's not a huge difference in price just get some forged pistons. If there's a big difference in price between forged and stock go with the 2g pistons.

Thanks for the correction, but i mentioned it helps better down low due to the fact you are compressing more air in thus giving more kick to the car.

IMO....if your just going to rip it apart to throw in a set of stocker 2G pistons. Don't even do it. Unless you're replacing piston rings, or the like and need to take it apart, than yes.
Once, you throw in a set of forged pistons and some nice rods, theres no turning back. It never ends.

higher compression doesnt help with spool. it help with off boost performance.
So you're saying Shep is probably using 7.8:1 pistons in his car?

Since you're suggesting it has nothing to do with spool (only off-boost torque) and he rarely drops below 8K RPM's in a pass, then he MUST be using 7.8:1's.

Going from 1g pistons to 2g pistons wont be much difference untill you actually are running high boost and timing. If running pump gas going high compression doesnt do much because you have to run less boost and timing to be safe. But people running race fuel or e85 are doing great on high compression. When you have the fuel to use it thats when they shine. They will make all kinds of power. The guys that made 500whp on a 16g where runnign 10.1 or higher compression on e85.

If you can find a machine shop that will do the work on the rods to fit the 2g pistons at a good price than do it. If not just stick with the 1g pistons. They are fine and will allow safer tuning.

I also wouldnt go with forged pistons unless you plan on doing the rods. The oem pistons and rods can handle about the same so no reason to upgrade just one. If you did the pistons and actually get them to a power they are made to handle the rod will just become the weak spot.

what would be the best choice as far as a set of street/strip cams? something thats not way over the top on performance as far as a daily driver and price?
