I recently purchased a 4g63 7 bolt N/A. I bought it in hopes to boost it. I’m having a hard time finding consistent answers regarding build sheets for reliable 450-500 hp.
I’m doing a full build new pistons and rods up just need some direction. Thanks for the help!

I didn’t even know that you could add the oil squirters to the block.

Assume I know nothing regarding building a 4g63 for boost. Could you give me possibly a good parts list to make a reliable 400-500 hp.

What’s a good rod and piston set up for boost? Do I need to do any upgrades to the head? What aftermarket cams should I get?

Far too many variables in your question to answer directly. Do you have a turbo picked out yet?

As far as pistons/rods any off the shelf H-beam and forged piston will have zero issues with 500hp goals. Stock turbo pistons/rods have done that. Cam choice will revolve some depending on the turbo you're using. A stock port head will have no issues.

I don’t have a particular turbo in mind. I want the engine to be built to handle more but keep it turned down jus so it last. I want to be able to drive it on the street. I really appreciate your advice. I’m currently tearing down the block to get hot tanked and cleaned up for new parts.

You want it built to handle more, but how much more? Having an end goal in mind here will help people help you. Again off the shelf h-beams and forged pistons are more than enough for what your current goal is, stock turbo pistons and rods with a good tune are as well. If you're shooting for something capable of 700+ down the road I'd be adjusting the build some, but a stock 4g63 will take 500hp thrown at it through an appropriately sized turbo no sweat if it's tuned and maintained well.

What will you be using the car for? Have you ever driven a 400+hp dsm?

No this is my first one, had v8 cars 400+ but I plan on putting it into a mighty max. Roll racing is the goal. I bought it for a reasonable price. Just trying to have fun!

Any quality brand H beam rods, wiseco HD pistons or any forged piston with a good quality wrist pin, arp rod and main studs(you’ll need a line hone for this but it’ll be worth it), make sure the surfaces are milled for an MLS gasket, good quality bearings of your choice(leave it up to you to research tri-metals VS basic ones) and keep the compression at or below 9:1 if you’re only gonna run 93(no e85 or racegas) and it’ll handle 500 or more with a proper tune and keeping up with maintenance, running quality oil like brad penn, AMSoil, etc.

As far cams, etc that’s impossible to tell you what to buy because if you’re wanting to go with a 67mm laggy AF track beast then a stock intake and 272 cams won’t be the best pairing. But neither will high lift cams and a SMIM on a setup that you want to be torquey and quick spooling.

Basically, we can’t just lay it out for you unless we know your explicit specific goals, and even then we won’t lay it out for you because this is stuff you need to learn for yourself, so you have the knowledge to maintain a car of that level. 400awhp from a 4 cylinder that you built yourself isn’t as easy as people make it seem. It takes work to make it and work to keep it and knowledge to even start.

My suggestion to you is just go with Manley/eagle h beam rods, wiseco HD pistons 0.020 over in 9:1 compression, stock 2G head, arp headstuds, OEM MLS gasket, stock 2G manifold or evo 3 IM if you can find one for cheap. Go with some HKS 272 cams or whatever is the equivalent in modern times. This setup will be a great foundation that’ll hold decent power. Go with a 16G or a 20G and make that setup work. Learn how to tune, learn how to maintain it, make 300-350hp by yourself and then you’ll be ready to go bigger if that isn’t enough for you and you’ll have the knowledge to know what works and what doesn’t.

As always though, MAINTENANCE AND RESEARCH FIRST!

I appreciate the advice! I’m dropping off my block today to get hot tanked/ decked. I’ll keep you guys updated on the build!
