How to remove these fuel injector electrical connectors without breaking them

is there a special trick to these or do I just have to keep struggling with a skinny tool to pry that little metal clip that braces the bottom of that blue connector? I just want to make sure there want a nice easy little trick that could save me some time. I already broke off a little piece of plastic. Thanks

The easiest way that I have found to do this without breaking the plastic is to remove the rail and remove the injectors. This gives you ample room to work and wiggle the clips off.

FWIW the plastic landing is needed to hold that clip in place. If you break that landing off, there will literally be nothing holding the plug onto the injector. I know because it happen to me. The injector came unplugged as I was tuning. Of course I got a check engine light and stopped immediately to avoid any damage.

Curved or Angled picks are ridiculously handy with these darn clips.

Yeah, you had the ones that Wrex had for whatever reason where you just squeeze the buttons and pull them up. these lock on like the CAS sensor with a metal clip.

Always the first mod I do on any car I buy, swap in those quick connect injector clips as seen in the youtube video. I can sell you some if you want, I always keep about 20 on hand. Can be found in the junkyard on various Chrysler and dodge minivans, those types are nicer than ones found on 2g's.

Nope. Just press down on the wire at the top with your thumb and pop the connector off, and they just snap back on without worrying about the clip at all. I've been using them for 4 years or so now and they work great.

My clips are 20 years old, and I never had a problem removing them.Although I did loose one of the metal clips peices.

Never had a problem taking out the metal clip, then removing the clip.

Or said earlier, take the rail off and it will give you a better chance at not breaking, and not loosing stuff.

i would remove the fuel rail so you as much room as possible.. and if you can get your hands on a small little pick like a needle and pop the clip out it shouldn't break..

I haven't had any problems with mine yet either, but when I go bigger I don't want to have an issues since 20yr old wiring is long past it's prime. I'm also looking at re-routing and maybe thinning out the harness when i get there. Are there any aftermarket connectors like that for the TPS & CAS ??

Not that I've found. I built a "hybrid" CAS that uses the pigtail connector from a '90 model, which then ties into my '92 harness using new aftermarket connectors.

For the TPS, I think we're out of luck (other than reversing it to clean up the wiring and replacing the screws with allen heads so it's easy to loosen and adjust ) . I would love to know if someone finds a new replacement for that connector though.

I just ordered 4 of those. Now the question is how do I install them? Can I just unplug the 4 injector wires from the loom and take it inside or am I stuck either cutting wires and working outside with the soldering iron? I know I saw a YouTube video for a 2g that you can unplug the whole 4 at once and take it on the bench.

My number 4 harness wire is broken I have it taped on the wires twisted together and taped. Noticing the car cuts out and studders some this probably why.

Also all 4 of mine are missing the metal clips. So I need to just do all 4 I ordered the complete kit assembled with the wiring etc..It was only $26 w/shipping.

So yeah let me know how to do it?

You will have to cut the old connectors off and solder the new ones on. There is no was around it. It's a very simple task though.

What great timing! I just went to take mine off for a motor swap and they were so brittle no matter how gentle I was they just snapped, crackled, and popped. Ordering a set tonight!
