I'm asking because according to my manual in order to relieve the system you have to disconnect this cable to the fuel tank that's located next to the spare tire and I'm not finding it among a few cables that lead to the rear lights and antenna. the wires in the pic dont lead to any connectors within reach and my Chilton doesn't instruct to take anything apart. If it's necessary can someone help me find it otherwise perhaps I just need to take some extra precautions before removing the head? Thanks

Depends on when the fuel pump last pressurized the fuel system. If it was a few days or longer there is likely not pressure in the system and just the residual volume of fuel in the rail that will leak out.

BTW On a 1G FWD the fuel pump isn't accessed for the hatch and the connector is under the car.

Technically, you don't have to crack any fuel lines to remove the head. Just removed the (3) bolts that hold the fuel rail to the head, leaving the injectors in there, and zip-tie it up out of the way while you remove the head.

If you plan on breaking the fuel system open, which includes pulling the injectors, then follow suit with what Steve posted.

Oh, okay. Yeah, it hasn't been pressurized in months. Thanks for your responses. Doesn't sound like too big a deal -said the unsuspecting amateur mechanic shortly before he lost his eyebrows

Lol the worst that could happen would be for the excess fuel to leak on to something and make it clean. Gas will evaporate pretty quickly.

I normally just take off the gas cap before I do any fuel line work. Never had any issues with that.

Months? There likely isn't even fuel in the rail. Given you were looking in the hatch for the connector it is this reason I would throw that childton manual in the trash. Factory manuals are so cheap now.

Hmmm... Do those factory manuals have color illustrations? Every picture in this Chilton looks the same.

In the FSM the wiring colors are represented by letters and the color key is at the beginning of the FSM. Besides that, what could you possibly need in color?
