hi guy

just bought the car ,sellar told me he did a timing belt change ,there was a weird sound in the engine but very less ..i took it to a extra slow mechanic took him to swap auto to manual in 26 days ,27th day he cranked the engine n wont start at all ,he said valves are bended ..wot damage could i have dun n can n e one give me a guide to change the valves on a 4g63 1g 92. i jus did a swap n ended up in this mess ...

Use proper grammar and spelling.

If the timing belt is adjusted wrong then the first start up could damage the valves. We have interference engines which means the valves and pistons are in the sampe place but at different time.

Sometimes you get lucky if its a tooth or two off but after that you'll get contact.

For removing valves you need to take the cams out and be sure to keep the caps in proper order for each stick. Next lift out the rockers and HLAs (now would be a good time to get the revised lifers with larger oil ports). Now you need a valve spring compression tool so you can remove the valve locks. Once those are removed you can take the spring and retainer out. Lastly drop the valves.

You'll want to replace the valve seals and get the valve guides checked at a machine shop for damage. The machine shop will need to I stall new guides as they have to be measured properly.

New valves will need to be either lapped into the head or they should be cut matched for a better seal.

To install is the reverse and you should also get new cam shaft seals as well. Use all new OEM timing parts (pulleys, belts, tensioner).

You do see his location right? I don't think he knows proper grammar and spelling.

You will have to pull the head off the engine to change the valves. And you will want a machine shop to do it because they will have to machine everything to get the valves to seat properly.

When you use chat room/cell phone lingo there is t an excuse. Seriously "N E". Obviously s/he know the word "any"

If the timing is off the valves will bend immediately. There is NO delay. They'll hit each other, the pistons or both. Then, like BogusSVO said, you'll be replacing guides.

yea grammer and spellings is another problem ..:D
thanks guys need to ask a question,i drove the car almost 40 kms aftr the timing belt changed .as you said 2 or 3 teeths difference .can the car run 40 kms if the timing is set wrong .i am the only one dsmer lover in the UAE ..i had one before 2 years back ..now i bought 2 of them one for spares and one for use..coz in this part of the world sparepart for dsm is imposible to find thats why i did a swap from my spare car .now head will be swapped the mechanic said pistons are good
again minor scratches on the piston wont expandto heat rite ??

Just retime it first. If you were only off a tooth or two or three then you are probably fine and haven't bent a valve. If you get to far off then you will bend a valve.

If you are off by one tooth then you can drive it forever without bending a valve.

It isn't about how long you drive it, it is about how far off the timing is.

Anyways, if it was me I would just try re-timing it first.

you will need to clean up and marks left on the pistons from valves from contacting the pistons. these marks can cause knock. You just need to smooth out any burs and sharp edges.

good luck!

this may only be true if you have stock cams. i know 1 tooth off on my car and i have contact.

another tip is any time you do a timing belt on a dsm you should rotate the engine over by hand before you try and start it

guys valves were bended ..any ways i swapped the head from my spare 1g with new stock gasket ..timing is set perfect now but another problem ..the car is missing 2 cylinders are not working wot could it be .i have new plugs ngk 6 platinum..wires are sparking all 4 of thm .today will check injectors is there a list of hings to check wen ## cylinders fail to work ..
