2G How Can i fix This or is it Fixable?? IS it Carbon? WireWheel?

Ok Here are the pics of my Intake and Exhaust Ports and WOW there is a lot of buildup.. What causes this and is this Fixable with Hot Tank or what can I do to get it down to look new again? Wire Brush around the Valves? I wanna do as much as I can to clean it and restore it unless I have to have things sent off to a shop.. Any Suggestions greatly Appreciated..

A wire brush will get most of that out, just takes a little time. Can usually buy a pack of 3, comes with silver, gold and black. I usually try to find the ones with the wood handles as they do not break near as easily as the plastic handle ones. Both have their place as the plastic ones can fit into smaller places, but they also break easier. I think I found the wood handle ones at Lowes or Home Depot by the welding stuff, they have an assortment of wire brushes. If you have a dremel and a flex attachment you can do wonders. Whatever chemicals you use, if you go that route, make sure it wont harm your valve seals.

too rich can cause carbon build up ...maybe boost leak ..if a big enough chunk breaks free it won't be friendly to the turbine blades in the turbo

My friend uses walnut blasting or something like that on his BMW 135 as they are known to have massive build up after 1 year (bad design) so he does it alot, i think its a case of closing the valves and blasting it in to clean it plus its not really that dangerous just need the right setup, need a hoover as well.

Its certainly the safer way to clean them inside with everything still on the car!

Everything is now off and apart I might be redoing my Valves because there is a lot of carbon build up on a few and looking at it but gonna try to clean it all first with Mineral spirits and do a Leak test with water over the valves to see if any leaks into the chambers if so ill reseat them and possible do new Valve Guides and guide seals.. Have a valve spring Compressor and valve guide removal tools coming.. I Enjoy doing this I am learning a lot about 4g63s and Eclipses... This community Rocks..
