Might as well buy a carbon fiber hood with a vent at the hump, it would look better anyways.

^What he said. You don't need any more air into the engine bay, especially without a way for it to get out.

I haven't seen any good come from people butchering up the hump, looks or performance wise. Some people do lift the rear of the hood with washers to let all the hot air out that just builds under the hood.

Not to mention that scoop from autozone looks to be a glue on... and you don't want to get made fun of because you glued a fake hood scoop on your car do you?

i don't think he cares about getting made fun of or else people would paint there carbon fiber hoods so that the car matches all around instead of having a ### looking panel on the car that doesn't match. People still post picks of painting calipers and valve covers. So getting made fun of is out of the question for glueing on a fake vent.

Hey man carbon fiber hood that are unpainted look sexy on car's with black trim or black rims like most DSM's :)

Yeah I agree though, I would stay away from the glue on BS.. I would look into a vented CF hood.

so I'm thinkin the best place to put a vent is right above the exh. mani an turbo? also how many washers do you think would be sufficient?

wait my last post was misleading...i meant how many washer would be sufficient for the lifting of the back of the hood?

that scoop is gey i wouldnt think of putting anything from autozone in my car well for looks or performance. you want a scoop that needs to be fibergassed on or molded either or. well if you get the scoop on then put washers to raise the back to so you constantly have cool air flowing through your engine bay. think about it thats def what you wanna do.

if you're seriouse about putting a scope in the hump of your car you should pm six97gst he has one in trhe works and it looks so good it should of came like that.

Who's the guy with the silver Eclipse that customized his stock hood? He had his hood louvered. It gives the hood sort of a JGTC look with the huge louvers. I don't remember who it is though. He also has a large fmic and red race bucket seats. Anyone?

Raising the back of a hood forces air under the hood. It doesn't suck the air out. This is what "cowl induction" is. Automakers have been doing it for dozens of years now. You've all seen cowl induction hoods. Key word = induction. They are not called "cowl scavenging" hoods.

The air pressure builds up at the windshield and gets forced under the back of the hood.

hey, been to a few sites and couldnt find what im looking for.

looking for a stock type hood without the bump.

real carbon, not a regular hood with a single layer on it.

im a stickler for symmetry

anyone have it on there car, can i see a pic.

1G or 2G?

1.8 or 2.0 engine?

If you have a 1G 2.0, you're wasting your time. The bump is there for clearance around the cam gears.

I didn't even know that they made those. Thought that you had to have that bump in order to clear the cam gear cover.

sorry 2g.
i didnt even check for clearance issues i know that chrysler designers likes to put off center bumps on cars

Is there a clearance issue with the 2G's or was it just a design carry over from the 1G?

Yes, the clearance is only for the cam gear cover. Running dangerously, without a cover, and you'll probably clear with a flat hood. However, this applies only to the 1G, and there was no flat 2G hood. There are symmetric racey-boy hoods with gills and slats and crap.

So we know what the hell we're talking about.

There is a carbon hood from VIS with vents after the radiator and no "bump". The problem is if you have a turbo car is that the vent is right above it and allows rain onto the manifold. This hood has a tendancy of cracking at the vent in snow effected areas as well. Not sure if it's due to the weight of a heavy snow fall or having a cold and brittle hood above a hot turbo.

its def from the freezing weather with extreme heat below it. Carbon hoods are strong the weight of snow most likely wouldn't crack it.

I would normaly agree although the spot where it cracks is in the thinest and weeIkest part of the downward "scoop". I haven't actualy seen the hood while it's cracking so I can't say for sure but you might be right.

Some of the early 1g's had a factory hood with no power bulge in it if you got a 1.8 engine.
