how hard is to rebuild a hx35 holset turbo? i got it off of the computer, it spins freely, and seems fine. i just want that little bit added security knowing the turbo is good (new) when i get done fixing my motor. the reason i'm asking is because my local shop wants over $350.00 to rebuild it. thanks.

If you've never rebuilt a turbo at all, it's difficult. You have to be patient, you have to clean everything properly, and you have a make sure everything goes back together by the books. If you pinch one of the seals during installation, you'll ruin the whole works.

I have numerous write-ups on turbo rebuilds in the Turbo and Intercooler Tech article section of this site- none yet for the Holset though. I've been too busy lately to make one for the Holset. Holset has downloadable / printable service manuals on their site:

Beware of the compressor cover snap ring installation....if you don't have some monster snap ring pliers, it will make you say words your mother will not appreciate.
