Truth be told, we would rather build our own than use someone elses manifold. That is the good part about having the skills and equipment to do so. But for now it will stay and we will just go through the last of what we need before Bonneville and run it as is.

THat's the type of beliefs i like to hear, probably because i'm the same way, but more so due to the fact that 75% of these cars,you can pop the hood and see the same old parts on one parked 3 spaces down in the same parking lot at any given DSM meet

PLus, you never know what you may have or might find unless you do something out of the ordinary

I've got to hand it to you, you always impress me with your setups and they are all done on such budgets that they leave me scratching my head wondering how those parts last the way they do, ESPECIALLY on the salt flats, there's a HUGE difference between going fast for 1320 feet compared to going fast for 26,400 feet :D great work, great tuning and way to go with making many winning cars that are using parts that are only about 1/3rd of what most vendors want you to think you "have to spend" to get to "x trap speed" or "X amount of horsepower"

I understand keeping somethings under wraps but i'm a visual type of guy and i'm not asking abhout the manifold or anything particular but i'd love to see more pics in your posts !!!!!!!!!!!
 
Hope you dont mind me asking but, with your setup being a HX52 on a revhard manifold thats open and the divided turbo what rpm does boost start and where does it top off? whats that setups boost level?
 
I forgot, but Nick removed the divider last year. I totally spaced it out. So currently it is like my truck and a S366 mirage we run. Open manifold and divided turbine housing.

There is a dyno sheet posted in the first post of this thread for this car. And if you search you can see what my car did when my engine was in my colt. It was on a 1.6L however.

Wow, Biglady, that's an impressive machine! I had no idea a stock intake manifold could support that power. I've been becoming more and more interested in land speed racing, especially with DSMs, as I haven't seen too many doing it. Just a question, though. It seems many people favor the FWD for top speed. Why is that?

Most likely because they are lighter.
 
One reason only. Gearing. Weight is your friend in LSR racing. We have over 1100lbs of ballast in our car currently. From a stock chassis that is. But we have specifically added over 500lbs in leads and weight plates.

It is hard to get power to the ground with only 4" wide tires. Regardless of how many tires are being driven. We have also stripped our fair share of gears in the past few years as well. And that was a few hundred horsepower ago. We did two 5th gears on back to back passes two years ago.
 
No datalogs as they stay on the embedded computer in the car. This car actually made 785hp @30psi a few months later. The car had a pretty slick water injection setup on it. We were able to really lean on the motor with the water on it. I was able to lean it out a bit and put some timing back into it. The egt's really came down when we put the 10es plugs in it as well. After tuning a bike with no knock sensor and having to tune it strictly off egt's, I was able to push things further more comfortably after learning the things I learned with that bike. Motors can take a ton of pjnishment if you have the right data for them.

Sorry about the logs. Nothing special to be honest. No dialing in of the speed density as the car is a race car and is never running long enough to spend the time to do things right. All tuning was done with the direct access tables.
 
Never saw this, nicely done.

But there is obviously a HUGE restriction in the setup somewhere unless it knocking up top or something else is going on like dropping 10psi of boost by redline, that you are not telling us. It appears to drop over 100hp at redline. Most big turbo cars continue to make more power as RPMs rise. Without a log its hard to tell whats going on.

The car eventually made 785hp@30psi though with a ton of water injection. We were able to lean it out a lot finally(from near 10.0:1 to 11.3:1) and ad 4-7* of timing into it. We hurt the motor thought when some bolts were left in the upper intercooler pipe and could not proceed as the motor was smoking too bad after each run. All four of the pistons had taken a beating. We smashed a lot of spark plugs trying to figure out what was going on. We could never find the foreign objects. We pulled the intake and found them after shaking it and tilting it all around. I think he we not hurt the motor 850hp was possible if we could have got near 40psi.
 
Thought about it a lot. But never made the commitment. Maybe some day on the truck as I am no longer involved with this project.
